Farmhouse in Plumeliau, Near Baud, Brittany, France - Peaceful Rural Location

Les Châtaigniers in Morbihan, Brittany, is a former farmhouse built of local stone, set in one and half acres of grounds, with a heated swimming pool (8x4m). The house was built around 1950 and has been refurbished in keeping with its original character. The house sleeps seven people comfortably in two double bedrooms and one large attic room, and offers roomy, light accommodation in a peaceful garden setting. Situated in a rural hamlet, the nearest town Pluméliau 5 mins drive has two supermarkets, bakers, chemists and banks. Nearest restaurants Locmine 15 mins. The owners do not live on site and the tenants have sole occupancy.

About Sue Russell Jones

We live near London and bought the house in Brittany in 1999 after a number of years holidaying in the area. Originally we kept it for our own use but after a few years began to let it out during the summer and had the pool installed in 2004. We had often found the beds in holiday accommodation were poor and having our own place meant that we could equip it properly and make it comfortable.

Why Sue Russell Jones chose Pontivy area

We love the area because of the relative ease of access from the Channel ports and the warmer weather of Southern Brittany. The Southern beaches are particularly fine and can be reached in 35 to 40 minutes. We enjoy the Blavet valley for its countryside, river and long distance tow path for walking/cycling

Our nearest large town is Pontivy which offers a range of restaurants and shopping outlets

What makes this farmhouse unique

Our farmhouse is in a rural setting but not far from major routes; it is within about 10 minute’s drive of the N26 East-West auto route which enables you to get around the area quickly.

We particularly enjoy the peaceful location and privacy afforded by a large garden and seclusion of the pool. the surrounding roads are very quiet and give a great view of surrounding countryside.

Notes on accommodation: Suitable for children over the age of three. Outside: One and half acres of grounds, with a heated swimming pool (8x4m). BBQ and furniture are provided for eating outdoors and separately chairs and loungers around the pool. Secluded garden is largely laid to lawn with mature trees. Utility Room: Washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Duvets and pillows are provided but guests need to bring sheets and pillow cases and towels.

Lovely House!

Very nice property in a quiet and private location. The kids loved the loft room, the swimming pool and playing hide & seek and the large gardens. We enjoyed sitting out in the evening with a drink, watching the bats. The house is nicely located within cycling distance of Pluméliau where we visited the bakery and the excellent Pizza restaurant.

Sue, the owner, was very helpful and answered all our email enquiries promptly. We are planning to return to Les Châtaigniers next year

Great place for a relaxing week

The house is in a lovely, quiet farming area which was ideal for re-charging the batteries. Plumeliau is only 5-10 mins drive so close enough for fresh croissants and bread from the boulangerie each morning. We were fortunate to have great weather so made plenty of use of the pool. Lots of places to visit for days out with plenty of ideas provided by the owner. Cycling on the River Blavet was lovely as was the beach at Carnac. Your teenagers won't be impressed by the Wi-fi but that may be a plus for the adults.

Sue provided ample information prior to our departure and plenty of information about things to do, restaurants and the house.

We were very happy with our choice to stay here.

Lovely house in a beautiful tranquil area

This lovely house is set in spacious grounds, set back from the road and felt very private. The rooms are large and comfortable and the house was very well equipped, the kids really enjoyed the loft room. The local area is very pretty with Plumeliau and Baud a short drive away. There is lots to see and do in the area be it in a car, on a bike or on foot - we managed to get out every day and see something new. The beach at Quiberon is a fantastic surfing beach and about an hours drive away. Sue has been very helpful throughout the booking process and also during our stay. Would definitely recommend this property.

The coast and beaches are approx 40 minutes away, those north of Lorient being reached most quickly Fort Blocqué (surf) and Guidel Plage (sailing), the beaches at Carnac (sailing), Quiberon (surf/sand yachting) are about 50 minutes away.


The house can be reached in a reasonable drive from the Channel ports, approx 2 hours from St Malo and Roscoff, three hours from Caen, three and a half hours drive from Cherbourg and just under four from Le Havre and 6 from Boulogne. Nearest airport is at Rennes 70 min.
