The property is within an hour's drive south of Toulouse. Over 400 years old, it sits in a beautiful rural setting outside the village of Benque. Adjacent to the Chateau is the Farmhouse and several other interesting outbuildings. There is also a private tennis court and 16m swimming pool. The nearest shops and restaurants are in the small historic town of Aurignac, which is a 10 minute drive. Larger shops, markets, and amenities can be found in Martres-Tolosane, Cazèrs or St. Gaudens. The Pyrenees are within an hour's drive..

About Brigid Clarke
We have owned Chateau Benque since 2003. It had been in the previous owners family for some 300 years but, for the last 50 years, the main building had remained unoccupied. We have enjoyed seeing the property lived in again filled with family and friends. The setting is beautiful with panoramic views including the Pyrenees. In the summer, we tend to spend most of our time outside and so cultivating the gardens has been important to us. The covered barn between the kitchen and pool is the perfect place for shaded lunches and evening bar-b-ques. It's probably the most used 'room' in the property. The views of the sunset from the pool terrace are spectacular and then later there are hours to be spent star gazing. We love the area, friends and neighbours and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

Beautiful place, perfect for our two families . Very comfortable , had lots of fun with tennis, pool
This was our second visit to this special place, secluded and peaceful ,a perfect spot for relaxation during the day, enjoying the spectacular views, playing tennis, swimming, sunbathing, reading in the shade. The rooms are beautiful and there was plenty of room for our two large families to spread out or all meet up together in the cosy kitchen or outside space for meals and fun. It is really well equipped for catering for large numbers.Thankyou!
A characterful and well equipped house with plenty of space for a large family group
We spent a week at Chateau Benque with our children, their partners and our six grandchildren (ages 11 down to 20mths). The house is beautiful and extemely comfortable and as it is quite a distance from neighbouring properties we were never worried about disturbing the locals - six children can make a lot of noise when they are splashing around in the pool. The older children enjoyed the chance to develop their tennis skills and the hall table was a great place to settle down to a quiet game of Newmarket or to try one of the games the owners have provided, when the adults were too tired to do anything else. We would all love to holiday at Chatequ Benque again. One week was not long enough to enjoy what the area has to offer but we would highly recommend the Museum of Prehistory and its rock shelter in Aurignac. The owner was extremely helpful.
An amazing place, a beautiful, relaxing retreat with space ,stunning views and fantastic facilities
Thank you for the absolutely wonderful week we spent in your beautiful house.
We all loved the place and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate my 60th birthday.
We had family and friends from the UK ,Italy,Spain and Germany , they have all have taken the details so expect more bookings as a result!
Everything surpassed our expectations, the beauty of the house and its' surroundings, the attention to detail, the the comfort and cleanliness and the relaxed tranquility and peaceful atmosphere.
The huge kitchen is so well equipped that catering for a large group was easy and a fun part of the holiday. All the bedrooms are clean and comfortable with linen provided. The quiet areas around the lovely gardens and pool were well used when people wanted a bit of peace and quiet just to sit and soak up the sun and the beautiful views.Fantastic!
We danced and danced in your kitchen.
We had dinner in the setting sun by the pool.
We had lilo races (both adults and children)
and we played tennis and drank gin and tonics by the court.
What can I say that hasn't already been said. 12 people had the most marvellous time, in the most beautiful of surroundings, in the most fabulous house, with the most dear of our friends and family.
Thank you for letting us share your home.
A stunning house and gardens
This home and its gardens have been designed beautifully ( the photos don't do the property and surrounding countryside justice really). A huge group of close friends and kids spent a very special week here - we swam in the fabulous long pool, cooked splendid meals in the spacious, practical and tastefully kitted-out kitchen, ate in the outdoor BBQ area most nights, as well as watching the sun set on the bench at the end of the lavender path - before stargazing. The children (aged between 3 and 12) swam, played ping pong, tennis, and went on the secret swing - and as parents it was great knowing they were completely safe in the grounds. The house has a DVD so sometimes the children would watch a film in the evening.
The nearest supermarket is in Aurignac, about 10 mins drive away - it's a ramshackle and charming small town. Some of us went to Lourdes 90 mins away, others drove to the Pyrenees, about an hour away. The area where the house is located is non-touristy, peaceful and very beautiful.
We ate at Le Bistrot in Aurignac one evening, a traditional French place. Seated on the terrace at the back of the restaurant, Paulette treated us as though we were dining in her own home - it was magnificent, as was the food.
Could we make one tiny suggestion to make this house even more perfect? - a couple of parasols by the pool to shade us from the glorious sun in the early afternoon.
We had an amazing week here and would definitely recommend it.
We have just returned home from the most amazing fortnight at Chateaux Benque. I have never had holiday blues like it! We are missing everything about the place, the beautiful garden, the bushes of lavender, the view, the perfectly situated pool, I even took up tennis again. It is a lovely house in the most stunning surroundings, we are planning our next visit already. Thank you Brigid for making it all so perfect.
Coast/Beach: 1.5 hours from the Mediterranean and 2 hours drive from the Atlantic coasts. Within an hour you can be in the French Pyrenees or nip over the border to Spain for a change in culture. Travel: Toulouse Airport is less than one hour's drive. Carcassonne and Pau are both about an hour and a half. Driving from England is straightforward, approx 13.5 hours from London using Eurotunnel. You will need a car to enjoy the area. Car hire is available at the Airport Distances: 10km to the small historic town of Aurignac where you will find everything that you need. Bakeries, butchers, bank, pharmacy a fabulous greengrocer, restaurant/bar etc. Within 15 minutes you can be in Martres-Tolosane, famous for its pottery or Cazères on the Garonne. Both have large supermarkets. Between Aurignac and Martresi s the picturesque village of Alan, built around the Bishops Palace. Central Toulouse is beautiful and is well worth a visit with a host of markets, galleries and museums 1hr Further Details: There are some interesting regional restaurants to explore and the lunch menus are usually fantastic value. The area is not particularly geared to tourists and so the various fêtes and events organised throughout the year give you a real flavour of local life. Although relatively undiscovered as a region, there is plenty to do for everyone from historic towns and monuments, beautiful walks, markets, fabulous cycling country, golf and white water rafting in the mountains, as well as easy access to a number of ski resorts.
