We are an English couple-Angie & Den that live on the coast in Kent when we are in England, We have been round the globe a few times, but it was only when we came to Kovalam on holiday that we knew we had found our niche ,that was 21 years ago, then this property came up by chance 12 years ago,it needed a lot of things cosmetically done at the time, which over the years has been rectified ,we are now proud to offer the villa and cottage to our guests.
Between us we have 5 children & 9 grandchildren, the children are all grown up now, and have flown the nest.
Den before he retired was an electrical engineer ,and I worked in catering & a stewardess with P&O, so it has taught me great insite into what people want, and their needs.
We also enjoy meeting new people, and helping them with what ever they might expect out of their holiday.
Angie Harrison purchased this villa in 2004
We bought this property mainly by chance,we loved the way it was set out, and the location, the cottage was a temporary building ,so we got building plans and turned it into a permanent building ,but still kept all the charms of India, it has 8 coconut trees in the grounds, a beautiful roof which we have converted into a garden & a covered area for all our guests to enjoy.
The benefits of staying with us are plenty, you can bird watch without moving anywhere, both properties have their own gardens with tropical potted flowers, gardens to sit out, read a book or just relax, its nice and quite ,and yet within 10 minutes you can reach all the shops, restaurants ,& beaches by walking,
The terraced roof is also a bonus , available for all the guests, to have many treatments, or just chill with a drink. You can join in yoga, have head massage, to many to mention ,you will have your own safe, flat screen T.V,- WI FI.-dvd player, very comfortable surroundings , just to make your holiday that bit special.
w'I had a great time. It is so handy for the beaches and the walks throught the woods are beautiful. The location is sublime' GW Ashford

Stayed for a month in December and enjoyed the villa very much, immaculate clean and all you will need for a home from home holiday.
The linen for the beds were crisp, clean and smelt divine, the towel too were excellent and both change 3 times a week the english owners are just great, friendly, informative and good fun
The villa is situated on a quiet back road but still has good access to restaurants and shops the view from the roof garden is stunning a good place to chill
all in all a most enjoyable stay many thanks to Angie & Den and all the gang who made our stay a pleasure
Albeit having visited the Kovalam area at least a dozen times over the years, and having stayed in various hotels and guest houses in the area, this is the only one I have ever returned to for a second visit, and it certainly will not be my last.
It is a very nice place to stay, which is as described, comfortable, clean and well-maintained,.
A really major asset is that the English owners, Angie and Den, apart from being a nice couple, are extremely helpful and informative and always on hand to advise on places to visit and to arrange trips during the time of ones stay. Service was excellent, as it was on my first stay with them.
Must mention Kummi who looks after your daily needs as well as being an excellent safe driver who knows all the right places for visitors to see during ones stay.
I would certainly recommend any one visiting the Kovalam area to stay at Angie and Dens Villa or Cottage, they would not regret it.
Alarek Villa was the perfect place to stay at the beginning of our two month trip out to Kerala. My teenage children and I had never been to India before and had a wonderful time. We spent both Christmas and New Year at the Villa and felt very at home. Angie, Kunni and staff couldn't have been more helpful and set up a number of memorable trips for us, which enriched the whole experience. A favourite with the kids was being able to wash the Elephants at the sanctuary. Kunni and Mun are excellent drivers and we felt very safe with them.
The Villa itself is beautiful. Spacious, clean and decorated with a fantastic mural of Ganesh in the living room..very auspicious. We had the additional pleasure of having access to a lovely roof terrace, the perfect place to relax or practise yoga under the guidance of Sunil..highly recommended.
We found everything easily accessible, with many great places a walk or crazy tuk-tuk drive away!
I would love to stay again, and would probably make this an initial base before travelling further.
The whole trip from start to finish was amazing. The house manager and driver immediately put us at ease on arrival with a warm and hospitable manner. What a wonderful person to greet tourists into India.
We took three excursions with him to the elephant sanctuary, Poovar and Trivandum and he was available if we needed him. Two very beautiful, but very different beaches are within a ten minute walk of the villa, or even shorter in a rickshaw. The local shops and a well stocked supermarket are ten minutes in the other direction. Several independent 7/11 style provision shops are even closer.
At the villa, the roof terrace was enjoyed by all of us. We spent the middle of most days chilling out up there, playing chess and reading....unusually for all of us we all managed to have a day nap up there too!
Kovalam's beaches are fabulous. My husband surfed most days and we felt very safe swimming. We met many people and were overwhelmed with friendliness and smiles. We found a local tailor and had a few items made. We ate the most delicious food in kingfisher, Suprabatham and lonely planet. There was so much choice for food, and all were very keen to accommodate for my son who isn't used to chilli. He has come home loving spicy food.
The cleaning lady kept the house and garden really clean, and was always a smiling face. The washing we had done was also great.
The villa is spacious, and the kitchen well equipped. We loved the wet room bathrooms.
I think we will be back again, and I am having coffee with a friend next week who wants to know all about kovalam as a place for a family holiday. She back packed in India years ago, in remote parts and was unsure about a beach holiday with children. I can most definitely put her mind at rest, as paradise it was x
