Casa Cappella is close to the city of Lucca and has been modernised in typical Tuscan style. It has a private pool and is located at the end of a small private road. As it sits amidst two hectares of chestnut woods and olive groves, it is not overlooked and has spectacular views down the Serchio valley across the plain of Lucca. The pool, which is for the sole use of guests at Casa Cappella is 12m x 6m and has a deep end with a diving board for the more adventurous amongst our guests. There is also a trampoline and table tennis for those seeking some physical activities. There is plenty of scope for exploration in the woods and olive groves belonging to the property. For ramblers or those who just enjoy a walk it is ideal as there are many walks either directly from the property or slightly further afield. For example it is only a short driving distance to the Garfagnana, an area of natural beauty in the Appenine mountain range. Casa Cappella is conveniently located for visits to Pisa and Florence as well as the seaside towns of Viaréggio and Livorno.

Why Valerie Stevens chose Lucca
If I had to sum up Casa Cappella I would say that it is without doubt a gentle relaxing place to stay and that it is well located for visiting Florence, Siena, Lucca and Pisa as well - so hopefully it will be exactly right for your family. The kitchen is well equipped as I love to cook. There is a large gas BBQ which is always well used and is located with a fantastic view over the plains of Lucca that the chef can enjoy whilst cooking. There is also a pizza oven which our housekeeper and her husband will fire up to cook for you if you choose to have a pizza evening. The pool is 12m x 6m with a diving board at the deep end. Plenty big enough for a family to have fun together and we do supply some inflatables to add to your enjoyment. The pool is located off the terrace at the back of the villa so is completely private and your enjoyment is unlikely to be heard by anyone! You are very welcome to bring Laptops, tablets, Xboxes and the tv is a modern one so would be compatible with these. There is wifi in the house but the walls are very thick and so it is only available a short distance outside. There are birds of prey around the house - you can see and hear them above the valley and sometimes directly above the house. At night we often hear owls and in the afternoons swallows swoop for insects on the pool. There are many different birds around including the Hoopoe bird which migrates every year from Africa and loves Italian gardens. Surrounding the villa there are olive groves, chestnut woods, acacia woods and a wild flower meadow and you are free to explore them all - in total about ten acres. There are also three different species of deer which you may be lucky enough to see as well as foxes and porcupines. The villa is very private as it is at the end of a drive and is the only property there. The neighbours house is at the beginning of the drive and they are also our friends who look after the villa and yourselves if you need any help whilst you are staying.
What makes this Villa unique
Casa Cappella is a very special place and all who come there for whatever reason remark upon the fact that the location is amazinl. The villa is located at the end of a drive with no other properties beyond it so there is complete privacy for anyone when staying at the villa. There are excellent 360 degree views from the property and the pool itself is in an elevated position beyond the villa with terraces before it and another beyond the pool looking out over the gardens and acacia woods below it. Yet another terrace is located on the edge of the acacia woods which is a great place to cool off with an evening glass of prosecco or wine. The night time views are stunning and this was a feature that I was particularly keen to find when I was looking for a villa to buy. If you choose Casa Cappella for your holiday I do not think you will be disappointed.

Beautiful villa in a lovely location
Very relaxing! Intended on doing so much but in the end stayed by the pool for much of our stay in Casa Capella. Would recommend the place to anyone.
Great description of Casa Cappella! It is in a truly remarkable setting and guests do tend to choose to spend most of their time by the pool eating, drinking and relaxing. Lovely to hear that our guests have had such a great experience and that they would happily recommend Casa Cappella to anyone.
Wonderful, peaceful home away from home
The first thing I would like to say about Casa Capella is that you will never have such an amazing 'owner/host' as Valerie. From even before we booked, she was incredibly helpful, answering queries and assisting with enquiries. Whilst we were at the property she was never more than an email or call away, and nothing was too much trouble
for her, even when we got into terrible difficulties with the local garbage disposal system. When she heard our son was interested in the Gothic Line which runs through the property, she even organised a private tour for him with a local expert and interpreter. Thank you Valerie for your unending patience, kindness and help. You are a star!
Now, Casa Capella itself. It is an amazing place. Inside it is very clean, and well furnished, with spacious rooms throughout, and plenty of seating downstairs. My son took his Xbox and had no difficulties connecting it to the modern TV, and wifi works well inside. The kitchen is fully equipped, and unlike many Italian rental kitchens, there is a full size 5 ring gas hob and full fan oven. It is a kitchen you can actually cook in, not just reheat frozen meals in.
Bedrooms are comfortable with plenty of storage space. Bathrooms are modern and towels are plentiful.
Outside, the pool is huge, and very well designed and maintained. Lots of thought has gone into both its construction, butting into the hillside, and the machinery it uses- no cloudy water from inadequate filtration, for instance. The deep end is deep, - we never did work out just how deep! but with older kids and confident swimmers this is a positive bonus. The diving board is a real treat. The gardens are very large and we thoroughly enjoyed our walks around them and through the woods.
It is a wonderfully quiet place, with amazing views in all directions. We were initially concerned that it might be a bit too isolated, but very soon we came to appreciate the peace so much so we preferred to just stay in rather than rush around with all our planned sightseeing excursions. We didn't regret that decision.
Others have mentioned the roads- yes, they are terrifying at first, and it does take much longer than you would think to get into Lucca, the first couple of times, but the locals were patient and kind drivers, and we got a sense of achievement everytime we got home in one piece!
A wonderful holiday in a delightful place. We really didn't want to come home, which, I guess, is the ultimate tribute!
Beautiful views, gorgeous pool, extremely well equipped house.
A perfect holiday villa for us, with everything we could have wanted - the piano was a bonus. Valerie was an excellent hostess, Cristina accommodated all our requests and is an excellent cook too. We particularly enjoyed walking in the Apenines and could have stayed the whole summer. Highly recommended.
I was delighted to hear that the piano was a considered a bonus and was well used by these guests. Cristina's pizza evenings are always a success - delicious food and plenty of it. The area is certainly great for walking whether you choose to walk in the area immediately surrounding the villa or choose to venture further into the beautiful Garfagnana and the Appenines you will not be disappointed.
Great Tuscan Villa
Lovely stone built farmhouse with exposed beams. Large well equipped kitchen, modern bathrooms.
Great grounds with large swimming pool and fantastic views. Lots of places to sit outside. Definitely one of the best villas we have rented. Would be really good for two families. We ate al fresco the whole week.
The access for the last few km is very narrow and winding with steep drops, not suitable for inexperienced drivers. Do not recommend a wide hire car (SUV).
There are two restaurants within walking distance, both amazing value, probably best to book.
Thanks to Colin for a great description recommending Casa Cappella for the location and facilities provided. It has a terrace with great views which, as Colin said, enables guests to eat al fresco most days. It is certainly a suitable villa for two families to share and there are several areas including two further terrace for relaxing and sunbathing so it would never feel crowded. The access is good and delivery lorries have accessed the villa on many occasions. There is an option for parking at the beginning of the drive but we have had large parties who have been happy to drive multi occupancy vehicles right up to the villa. We drive a large E class Mercedes Estate and there is room to park several vehicles and also plenty of turning room. The drive up is definitely worth it once you arrive and experience the amazing views from Casa Cappella.
The property had a lot of character and the views over Lucca were tremendous.
The Original Tuscan Dream!
Casa Capella was everything and more than we expected from the website pictures. It was simply stunning to say in and brought alive the Tuscan dream we had always wanted to experience. The house is beautifully Italian with cool stone floors and many windows to allow a cooling breeze waft through when the going gets ultra hot! The pool was quite simply fabulous and we felt like we owned the property ourselves as it was all so clean and well maintained. Our whole family of grown up children and partners and our little six year old son had plenty of living space and all agreed that it was the best family holiday we had ever had. Jack (6) learned to swim with confidence in one week but it should be noted that the pool is very deep one end, just so people with children know. No problem if you can trust your kids to behave! Overall an absolute dream of a location and property that we were privileged to experience.
I am so pleased to hear that Casa Cappella brought alive the Tuscan dream for our guests and how lovely that their six year old learnt to swim with confidence in our pool! The pool does have a deep end which enables us to have a diving board for the more experienced swimmers and there is a shallower end with steps in the corner for the younger or less confident swimmers. I am happy to hear that the family were able to feel at home at Casa Cappella and that they considered the property to be very clean and well maintained. There can be no better compliment than to hear that this was the best family holiday that they had ever had and I am most grateful to them for being excellent guests and for writing such positive comments about Casa Cappella.
