Our Favourite gite
Gabillou is our favourite gite we have visited, and this was our third visit. It's so well equipped. The grounds are secluded and secure for children and pets so you can totally relax. We have already booked for next year for two weeks and can't wait.
Thankyou. It means everything.
AMAZING FAMILY HOLIDAY !
From the outset the owner Carol-Lynn was very friendly and helpful and was there to meet us on arrival. She answered all our questions and told us about local events taking place during our stay. The house itself was simply amazing with an authentic french feel and loads of room for our group of parents, grandparents and 3 children. Nearly every afternoon was spent by the pool. The fenced garden and pool meant we could relax on the terrace whilst the kids exhausted themselves playing in the garden. The house was immaculate and so well equipped.
A fantastic holiday for all the family.
Beautiful stay in the French countryside
My husband and I stayed at this property for a week in May 2015 and had the most amazing trip. The property was really well equipped and was located in the most beautiful rural surroundings in the middle of a valley with breathtaking views all around. The hosts were incredible, really attentive and catered to all our needs. We will most definitely be returning!
A Brief note to say the best house we have ever stayed in abroad including at least 10 trips to different parts of France.
Carol got us some food as we were running late and provided a double sided A4 piece of paper handwritten with the activities on locally during our week.
Beautiful house and gardens, you hear nothing apart from birds, truly relaxing.
I look forward to returning again.
From the very first email to Carol-Lynn requesting details on Gabillou there was excellent communication. Emails were always answered very quickly and with full explanation, details and answers. We unfortunately hit a lot of traffic on our way down from the UK and were delayed quite some time, however this was never a problem and we were met at Gabillou on our arrival, our welcome pack was very gratefully received. First impressions most definitely have the WOW factor, the Gite is perfectly situated in the country side, rolling hills for views and the garden is huge. There are no neighbours to worry about, this was especially handy when we had 4 year old twins running around! They loved the garden with the swings, picking fruit from the many different trees and the beautiful pool. The fencing around the pool and the alarm gave us a lot of piece of mind during our stay. Our dog also loved running around the garden and collapsed every night, totally exhausted! The Gite itself is beautiful, lovely old beams, stunning furniture and every conceivable thing you could want or need has already been thought of and provided. The kids loved the 50" TV and there were so many movies to chose from to keep them entertained. We BBQ'd most nights on the huge gas BBQ and sat outside on the warm evenings. The bedrooms are all spacious and airy, fans are provided for those warm nights. Bathrooms were very nice and unusual in France to have en-suites as well as a full bathroom. We used the bikes provided and often cycled into Saint-Barthelemy D'Agenais for fresh bread in the mornings, it is a beautiful ride and just a 5 mile round trip, we even put the children in the provided children seats and took them as well. We had issues with one of our cars during our stay and Carol-Lynn went out of her way to help, recommended a fantastic garage and even took my husband there and translated, she made a very stressful situation so much easier. The area has so much to offer Miramont was lovely for dinner. There is a very good local vet, again recommended by the owner for the passport to be completed. All in all Gabillou is just perfect & the owners go above and beyond to make your stay as happy and perfect as possible. and we will most definitely be returning as soon as we can.
what a holiday!
If you like peace and quiet, watching the birds as the sun rises whilst you are still in bed, this away from it all home is for you. The property is ideal for everyone, plenty to see and do in the surrounding area but if you prefer to just hide away from the world and sit by the pool with a good book and glass of wine, then that is possible too. The huge garden is child and dog proof, with out door games on site. The owners are very helpful and can be contacted if necessary, especially when taking dogs to the vets before travelling back to the UK. Can't recommend it enough, have been using gites all over France for the last 20 years and this is the best we have found. Hoping to return in the not to distant future.
Travel times by car to reach the house:

"Bordeaux "Merignac" airport (low cost flights to UK as well as national carriers) – 1 hour 15 minutes.
Toulouse International Airport – 2 hour.

Accessed via a quiet tarmac lane (cul-de-sac) and set amongst rolling countryside, the house is ideally located between the villages of St Barthelemy d'Agenais (4km) and Seyches (6km) with shops, doctors and dentist and the bastide town of Miramont (5km) with selection of shops, banks, supermarkets and bustling Monday market. Many nearby village fêtes take place for your enjoyment. Miramont's lake can also be accessed on foot or bike from the property via rural lanes and footpaths.
A detailed guide to the house and locality is provided on arrival but here's a taster of some things to do.
The historic towns of Bergerac and Villeneuve-sur-Lot are within a 35 minute drive with the nearby towns of Marmande and Tonneins (both 25 minutes) also providing good shopping opportunities.
The house is also centrally located for the vineyards of Duras (try the fresh Sauvignon or rose with a BBQ), Marmandais, Monbazillac (a sweet white which makes a nice aperitif early evening) and a little further, Bordeaux (delicious with a goat's cheese and tomato tart with salad for lunch on the terrace) and St Emilion amongst others.
Many towns and villages organise meals, fetes and activities throughout the year, where you can mingle with the locals and enjoy the warm-hearted welcome and hospitality of the area.
There are markets (some with food stalls and entertainment) throughout the week, with night markets in the summer, for example in nearby Miramont, Soumensac, Eymet, Levignac. The area is famous for it's tomatoes and prune d'Ente and fois gras and you can also get the local cheese, plums, apples, grapes, melons, peaches and nuts (in season) which taste just delicious. If you feel brave, taste the potent eau de vie made from the prunes.
There are the castles of Duras and Bonaguil to visit, walk along the Canal de la Garonne (featured in Rick Stein's TV show) at Pont de Casse, round the lakes of Saut du Loup and Soumensac, quaint old churches to look at in many villages, welcoming restaurants serving delicious food and wine of the region for various budgets with many offering 3 courses with wine for 15 euros or less, boat trips on rivers at Bergerac or Nerac, take in Monflanquin, named one of the prettiest villages of France, perched on its hilltop with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside or take the little train across the Landes.
