Beautiful Waterfront Apartment in Cabanas de Tavira, Eastern Algarve, Portugal - Quiet Location, Close to Ria Formosa Nature Reserve and Several Golf Courses Nearby

Aldeia Formosa is a development adjacent to the sandy beach, a fort, the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve and close to 5 golf courses. The apartment is light and spacious and has been furnished to a superior standard. It is on the first and second floors of a 3 storey block, accessed through a locked and gated courtyard with entry phone. The pedestrian exit from the car park also brings you into the gated courtyard. There are south facing balconies on each floor with impressive sea views. Sandy beaches are only 2 minutes walk away and numerous affordable restaurants and coffee bars line the waterfront. Benamor golf course is less than 2km away and several other courses are within easy reach. Cabanas is a fishing village catering for a wide variety of outdoor interests - tennis, padel, lawn bowls, fishing, cycling, bird watching, walking, kite surfing and water sports. Fishing boats can be hired. The train station to Faro (in the west) or Vila Real (in the east) is a 12 minute walk away.

Notes on accommodation: The air-conditioning in both the bedrooms and living room also acts as heating when required. There are also oil filled wall radiators in the lounge, hallway and both bedrooms making the apartment suitable for year round letting. Cots and/or high chairs can be provided for an additional charge. A smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm are both installed and regularly tested. The apartment is in a locked and gated courtyard which makes it secure for children. All the bars along the waterfront show SKY sports. Outside: Outdoor furniture on both balconies. A BBQ, loungers, table, chairs and parasol are available on the terraces. Both terraces enjoy splendid and amazing south facing views over the lagoon to Cabanas Island. There is a reserved underground car parking space for the apartment in the secure garage. Utility Room: Utility area with Bosch washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Equipped with Egyptian cotton bedlinen and bathroom towels. Your own beach towels are required or can be purchased locally. Linen is provided weekly. Additional changes can be arranged but this will incur a cost. The washing machine is of course available.

Quiet and relaxing, wonderful

Lovely area to holiday, very quiet in April. The apartment was lovely, everything you needed was there, except wifi (not a problem for me). Very close to the water which you can see from the balcony upstairs and downstairs. Lots of lovely restaurants very close by (Pedros was my favourite).

Keys handed over by Jane, who really helpful and I text her a couple of times during the week and she responded really quickly.

The board walk is a lovely walk which we did every day.

Catch the boat to the island 1.50 euros each for an amazing beach.

Cabanas Apartment Review

The property is located in a very nice and quiet location but only mins from the sea, shops and restaurants. It is set over 2 floors and is very spacious with lovely balconies on both floors and views to the sea. All needs are catered for with the kitchen, utility room and three bathrooms - 2 ensuite. It is really comfortable with access to UK television channels and lots of local information is available. The apartment is very clean and well maintained. It was a home away from home and helped us to have a really relaxing holiday. The area is beautiful, no crowds, lovely locals who mostly speak English, and you feel very safe. There are some lovely walks, either through the orange groves or by the seashore. It is close to train and bus links with a short train ride to Tavira, a pleasant cobble-streeted town with loads of character. Cabanas is a good place for all ages, although maybe a bit quiet for a lively teenager. We would highly recommend this apartment.

Comfortable and well-equipped.

This apartment was ideal for us, and we have had a number of enjoyable long autumn stays. It is clean, well-maintained, well-equipped and any requests or comments were quickly attended to. With two bedrooms and three bathrooms we have even been able to have friends and relatives to stay.

Although we like to cook for ourselves (this is just about the only holiday accommodation we've had with decent kitchen knives!), we were pleased to find local restaurants only (literally) a stone's throw away.

Being only half an hour from the Spanish border, we found affordable Spanish golf courses within easy reach (e.g. Costa Esuri offers extremely reasonable golf packages). There are several Portuguese courses even closer.

All in all, we would very happily recommend this property to any friends and/or relatives.

Excellent Apartment and Location

Sue's apartment is first class and the location excellent. I enjoyed sitting on both balconies and can say that I was not overlooked in the two weeks that I was there. The apartment is very clean and well equipped and I would not hesitate in recommending this apartment and hope to return again. Lots of lovely cafes and restaurants along the front and side streets and can thoroughly recommend Dona Ines and also O'Eschalo for a night cap on the way home.

About Sue

I jointly own these lovely apartments with my business partner David. We also run a renowned Project and Programme management company but like to escape from the hectic life whenever we can with our families. We have put a lot of thought and effort into making these apartments as comfortable for our guests as at all possible. Holidays (long weekends or for longer periods) are always special to us and with this in mind we were keen to make the apartment a 'home from home in the sunshine' for people (whatever the season) who rent from us. We hope you agree!

Why Sue chose Cabanas de Tavira

This area of the Algarve was highly recommended on the Channel 4 program 'A Place in the Sun' by Amanda Lamb as being beautiful and unspoilt. It is a truly gorgeous part of Portugal. We chose this apartment (with compass in hand) to get the best of the sunshine all day and because of the stunning views of the lagoon and Cabanas Island from both the lower and especially the upper terrace. The long golden sandy beaches are a sight to behold. We recognised that the apartment was ideal for families, golfers and people who are not tied to school holidays. There is something for everyone!

What makes this apartment unique

We have worked hard to make the apartment suitable for rental all year around. There is air-conditioning for the summer and oil-filled wall radiators for the cooler evenings. The apartment is 200 metres from restaurants, the waterfront, cafes and bars. There is something for everyone in Cabanas. We have ensured that the apartment is so well equipped that guests can either prepare a feast to eat in or take the small stroll to the local restaurants and come back 'home' for a digestif and/or coffee! We are proud to say we have guests who book with us again year after year and like us they don't want to leave at the end of their stay. One set of guests summed up their experience saying "Wow"!

Last Monday, 15 October we returned from a 3 night stay at your wonderful apartment in Cabanas.We are taking this opportunity to say a BIG thank you for such a fantastic place to stay and explore the surrounding area. The apt. was very comfortable with all modern appliances available and central and so convenient for the waterfront, bars and restaurants. The sandy beach is adjacent to the apartment complex. A 2 minute boat/ferry ride across the Ria Formosa lagoon gives access to other beautiful sandy beaches, a bar, toilets and first aid post on Cabanas Island. Additional photos are available on request. There is also a kite surfing school in Cabanas and sea fishing from the new pontoon and marina. Several other beaches a few kms away are - Altura, Manta Rota, Praia Verde and Monte Gordo to the east and Barril to the west. Ideal beach for kites.


Faro airport is about 35 minutes drive from Cabanas on the motorway. Car hire is not essential as everything you may require is available within easy reach of the apartment complex. Bus and train services to and from Faro and Tavira pass through Conceicao which is within easy walking distance of the apartment. There are taxis, car hire, deep sea fishing, lawn bowls, tennis and cycle hire facilities readily available in Cabanas. Water taxis are available linking towns/villages along the coast.


To the west: Tavira 6km. Olhao 33km.Faro 40km. To the east: Vila Real de Santo Antonio 20km. Spanish border 24km. Seville 180km.

Airport pick-ups and drop-offs can be recommend via web sites so you can arrange airport transport yourselves at a very much reduced price.

Within 5 minutes walking distance of the apartment there is a fresh produce market, bakery, a small local supermarket and a variety of individual shops/boutiques, restaurants, post office and banks with ATMs. For larger groups of friends and families we can provide details of other apartments to rent within the complex. We have also provided a comprehensive information folder in the apartment which includes details on various trips to be enjoyed and restaurants etc. For those wanting a 2-centre holiday we have a smaller very well equipped ground floor apartment (sleeps up to 5) 4kms west of Albufeira, Owners Direct property code P4871. This complex has 2 pools on site. Further information, photographs and our own apartment website address can be supplied on request. We provide use of a pay-as-you-go wifi dongle in the apartment. Alternatively the nearest internet is 1 minute walk from the apartment. Details on request.

The restaurants (a short stroll away) are all family run and offer fish, meat and vegetarian. A typical plate of good food is less than 12€ and is substantial. A bottle of wine starts at about 5€ upwards with a Reserve wine at about 10€.

The apartment has a satellite with all the principle BBC and ITV programs. There is also Portuguese cable TV with euros sports, CNN/Fox news, films in English with Portuguese sub-titles, cartoons etc. There are 34 cable channels.

A 25% non-refundable deposit is payable on booking, balance payable 6 weeks prior to arrival date. Payment can be made in either GBP, Euros or CAD via bank transfer to our UK, Portuguese, Canadian accounts, or by GBP/Euro cheque. £150/150€ damage/breakage deposit is payable 7 days before arrival and refundable within 7 days of departure (subject to there being no damage/breakages). Our agent meet you, handover the keys and show you around the apartment. A 24-hour service is provided by them.

Changeover Day:
Arrival time 15:00hrs (negotiable in low season). Departure time 10:00hrs (negotiable in low season) Flexible changeover day.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds and Euros.
Additional days (or less days) will be charged on a pro rata basis. Payment can be accepted in GBP, Euros or CAD directly into our UK, Portuguese, French or Canadian bank accounts. Reduced rates for longer lettings in low-season. Bookings can be taken for a minimum of 5 nights in all seasons.   • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
