About Chalet Gretl

Chalet Gretl was bought by a family who got tired of the typical high prices & low standards of holiday hotels, chalets and apartments.

We are all keen skiers (downhill and cross-country), road and mountain bikers, runners, skaters and walkers. Any details you require regarding your particular activity, ski conditions etc we will do our best to provide.

Our live in chalet host will welcome you to the chalet, look after you throughout your stay and provide you with local information.

Our aim is to make your holiday as comfortable, pleasurable and easy as possible, allowing you to just relax and enjoy yourselves, knowing that at the end of a tough day on the slopes, (or golf course, bike trails etc), you are coming back to your own luxury chalet.

We love it here and I'm sure you will too.

Jan 2009 - Chalet Gretl

  • 5 of 5

I never write reviews but our experience at this chalet deserves one. Rod, Katie and Gareth were AMAZING! We had 5 children all under the age of 4 and 5 adults so quite a crying, toy filled, in and out bunch. They were always there for anything we needed and even a bit above and beyond. They were always there chatting with us yet never in our way.

The food was perfect. The three course meals served every night were excellent and we even asked to make less food as it was abundant. Katie even got up at 5am on our leaving morning to make sure we had breakfast when she could have just left food out!!!!!

The chalet was very clean, very comfortable and in a good location. You could walk to the lift but it would be a bit far so a car is a must though the chalet has a van which I am sure they would have driven us. Anyone who has not been to this area I would say that the facilities in Schuttdorf, where this chalet really is, is much better than in proper Zell Am See (5 min drive) because of the amount of services in this town like food and clothes shopping, restaurants, etc but mainly for food and clothes.

In summary, I believe the chalet made the difference in this trip as we felt very much at home and when your kids dont want to leave...that is a good sign. We will definitely consider this chalet and Zell Am See next year.

Chalet Gretl is just over a one hour drive from Salzburg Airport. There is also a regular reliable bus and train connection to us from Salzburg. Innsbruck is the next nearest airport which is a 2 hr train journey away. Intercontinental flights usually arrive at Munich.

The Chalet is located in a quiet cul-de-sac in Schuttdorf, the residential suburb of Zell am See and the site of the main ski lifts for the Zell area. The lifts are just 1000m from the chalet by foot.

The Skiing is terrific, with runs for all abilities at the local slopes and at nearby Kaprun where you can ski on the glacier all year round!. Plus within 30km of Chalet Gretl are a further 15 ski resorts. Only a five minute walk from the chalet are the local facilities of Schuttdorf which includes shops, restaurants, pubs, banks, cross-country skiing, walking, roller-skating and bike trails and not forgetting the lake with sailing, swimming, windsurfing and parascending in the summer. The golf club is a 5 minute drive as is the pretty tourist town of Zell am See with its many shops, ice-rink, swimming pool and other facilities. There are some superb walks, many of which are on the well kept trails in the valley and around the lake

Golf: Just 5 minutes away from Chalet Gretl, Zell am See-Kaprun Golf Club boasts two 6000m, 18 hole championship courses, providing a host of challenges for the keen golfer. And there are another 20 courses less than an hour away, any of which can be can be played on one 5 round ticket. Note: Golfers must be members of a Golf club in their own country and have a sub 36 handicap. To make life as easy as possible for you, we provide transport to Zell am See Golf Club for you and your clubs in our own vehicle.

Ski: Zell am See/Kaprun is a paradise for skiers and boarders of all ages, sizes and abilities, with 132 km of downhill runs on the 'Schmittenhohe' at Zell & the 'Kitzsteinhorn' glacier at nearby Kaprun. For the more experienced skier there are over 40km of black runs, while for the less daring there are easy blues and a mix of easy & more challenging reds to help build your skills. Boarders are spoilt for choice with huge, wide pistes, loads of off-piste opportunities, natural half pipes and the new 'Snowpark'.

Cross-Country fans have over 200km of trails available including a 5km night trail. And if you tire of all this, there are over 15 other resorts within just 30km of the Chalet.

During the summer wonderful waterfalls, museums and mountains provide many places to visit, making Chalet Gretl an ideal central location.
