Beautiful Stone House in Picturesque Medieval Village Nr. St Emillion / Duras

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

House in Castelmoron D'Albret, Nr Monsegur, Gironde, Aquitaine - Officially 'The Smallest Village in France'

This beautiful village house set in a medieval village in the middle of the wine country has been completely re-furbished in 2005. The stone house is over 300 yrs old and still has many of the original period features. The wrought iron staircase banisters were made by a famous blacksmith and the only ones remaining in Castelmoron.

The village is officially the smallest village in France and attracts visitors from all over the world. The ramparts and dungeons from the original Castle still remain; if you're nice to the Mayor she can be persuaded to give you a tour, until fairly recently they were still being used as the local prison. There is virtually no traffic in the village (only the residents) so it is very quiet and very safe.

There is a bar/restaurant In the village and 2 supermarkets boulangeries, butchers etc 10 mins away. Within 20 mins or so there are several towns with markets, bars and restaurants. There 2 Michelin star restaurants within 20 mins of the house. Lakes for swimming, boating etc can be found in the area and canoeing on the river. 4 golf courses, literally hundreds of wine Chateaus. No visit to the area is complete without a trip to St Emillion. Bordeaux is less than hour away and is one of Europes most beautiful cities after the government spent billions of Euros modernising and restoring it. The International Jazz festival 24 Heures du Swing is held in Monsegur usually in July. The house has Wi-Fi inc.

Fantastic retreat in a wonderful location.

The house is in great condition, full of character and well equipped. Ample room for a large family.

Our kids loved the pool and made use of it every day, the village location is great for immersing yourself in French life. Wifi available which nowadays is essential for kids.

All in all a very relaxing holiday home, lots of villages at close hand to shop & visit night markets.

Would highly recommend!
