About Christian Hoy
As owners of an insurance and transport business in Surrey, it is always a treat to get away from the stresses of work and head off to our home in southern France. “Our two daughters were 5 & 6 when we bought Picherre” recalls Kim, “and we wanted a family home that would allow us to bring friends and our large families away for a holiday that would be enjoyed by everyone. Picherre was ideal. Within a few hours of leaving our house near Epsom, we can be drinking a glass of local Cahors wine around the pool or on the banks of the River Lot. If we catch the 6.30 a.m. flight from Gatwick, we can be in Picherre before lunch after stopping off for a food shop on the way through." The privacy of Picherre allows us to completely switch off the moment we arrive at our old stone farmhouse.
Christian Hoy purchased this Farmhouse in 1997
Why Christian Hoy chose Duravel
We bought Picherre in 1997 whilst enjoying a holiday in the region. Being on the flat, bordering the river Lot and enjoying the seclusion of its 7 acre plot were the main attractions. We have been told that the property is over 200 years old. Local rumour has it that the bread oven in the barn served the local community during the Second World War. Although Picherre still has its own well, nowadays we are able to enjoy the amenity of mains water! The village of Duravel with its local boulangerie, boucherie, tabac and weekly market provides a timelessness that seems a far cry from our world in and around London. Our children love walking or cycling to the village in the morning for our baguettes, pain au raisin and pain au chocolat and chatting to the friendly neighbours en route.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Whilst Picherre is private, it is not remote. If you wish for some solitude, you can sit quietly and fish from the end of the garden or simply watch the kingfishers dart by and fish jump at dusk. For those who enjoy exercise and wish to explore the area, there is a 7 mile circuit for cycling or walking right from the front door. Tennis can be played at the courts in Duravel. A day's excursion can take you to the underground river and caves at Padirac or the medieval cliff-hanging village of Rocamadour, or more locally the spectacular chateau Bonaguil. The numerous vineyards close by offer delightful wine-tasting experiences. Children love a day out at the water park at Agen. You can enjoy local produce and food at family restaurants or excellent fine dining for that special occasion.

Beautiful location, beautiful property
We had a lovely break at this wonderful property. A great intro email from Christian and with Kevin welcoming us warmly, we settled in immediately in the most tranquil and relaxed locations we could imagine.
I would highly recommend Pincherre for anyone looking for relaxed isolation from the world. Surrounded by nearly 360 degrees of the local landscape, situated on the riverbank of the Lot and surrounded by vineyards and walnut trees. We brought our kayaks with us and had a couple of days of paddling up and down the Lot. Access is easy from the property and the river is gentle enough to paddle on.
Our only disappointment was that sadly some of the bikes at the property were in a bit of a state of disrepair - it would've been lovely to have a family bike ride. Still, we more than made up for that with lots of pool time in the wonderful pool area with plenty of nice weather during our stay.
Would very much recommend Le Caillau nearby for a very pleasant dining experience and Gouffre De Padirac or Rocamadour for a great day out if cabin fever sets in ...Not that it did, could quite happily have spent another week here.
The whole family very keen to return!
Thank you so much Jay for writing your review and I'm glad that you had such a lovely time at Picherre. It is a pity that the bicycles weren't in the best working order. As you know, they are lent to our guests free of charge and whilst we have them all serviced before the start of the season we are reliant on people taking care of them and leaving them in the same condition as they find them. It would appear that, as our final guests of this season, previous people haven't taken the care we would have liked. It is very useful to bring this to my attention as I will reemphasize that this little extra to people's holiday can only happen if everyone takes care of the bikes. I look forward to seeing you back at Picherre.
Heaven in the French countryside
We stayed at Picherre in July/August 2019 for our family holiday and it was the best experience I’ve ever had in France.
The house is amazing lots of room and very well equipped with everything you could need for your stay, very spacious and relaxing. The pool is brilliant and my son especially liked evening swims during our stay cooling off before bedtime.
The house stays lovely and cool during the hot days, which makes it a comfortable place to cook and relax. Kevin and Sandra were fabulous and very helpful with whatever we needed.
We loved staying here and will definitely be booking it again in the future.
Thank you for leaving such a lovely review. The outside lighting by the pool does make night swimming a great way to the end the day. You certainly had exceptional hot weather this summer and I am pleased that you were able to keep cool indoors. We certainly would welcome back at Picherre.
We LOVED our time here- we really didn't want to leave. We spent the majority of our time in the pool or playing table tennis and loved every minute. The house itself had everything we needed and plenty of room - we didn't feel on top of each other at all. We also really enjoyed the use of the bikes to get us to the bakery in the mornings.
I can't recommend the property enough - we had a fabulous time and it is even better than how it looks in the pictures.
Thanks for such a lovely review. I'm glad that you enjoyed the new table tennis table which seems like a good addition to Picherre. It is good to hear that you made good use of the bicycles too. No matter how many photographs I take, none, as you say, really capture the beauty of grounds and all that is on offer. I'll have to keep on snapping away!
Wonderful place to relax!
Picherre truly is a superb property that proved to give us the absolute perfect, relaxing holiday that we wanted! We have stayed in seven different locations in France over the last eight years and we all had to agree that Picherre has now become our favourite!
The house is lovely, impeccably clean and very well equipped, but it is the outside that is really beautiful and so well maintained! Sitting on the balcony each morning while sipping coffee and listening to the birds all around was an absolute pleasure.
The pool is great, with lots of seating and space around it and we spent most of our days relaxing in the beautiful setting, while the kids played endlessly in the water. We used the BBQ most nights and enjoyed sitting out in the covered seating area. The access to the river is brilliant, being just at the bottom of the garden. We found it very easy to take our kayaks out, enjoying many hours of fun on the gentle river Lot.
We like to cycle and run and found some really good routes that were manageable for the whole family straight on the door step.
We really enjoyed the tour and wine tasting at Chateau La Gineste, kids included and bought several boxes to take home. A meal out at Le Caillau was a lovely evening and visiting Cahors and many of the lovely villages in the area filled up our days.
We would like to say a big thank you to Christian and his family for our wonderful stay at Picherre and also to Kevin and Sandra who gave us such a warm welcome and keep everything immaculate insuring that our holiday was outstanding.
Rachel, Howard, Jerry & Gracie.
Thank you Rachel & Howard for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We are really pleased that the major improvements we have made to the outside of the house in past couple of years have been such a hit this summer. You sound like you had a great time with your sporting activities. The roads and paths around Picherre are great to cycle, run or walk along as there is so little motor traffic. We are so glad that you had such a wonderful holiday and hope that you will come back and stay with us again. Thank you also for leaving the house so clean and tidy - Kevin and Sandra were ever so grateful.
A beautiful getaway.
We’ve just returned from a lovely week at this beautiful farmhouse. It was an idyllic setting on the banks of the river Lot. The property was immaculate on arrival and had everything we needed. We were blessed with good weather so spent much of the time by the pool or playing games in the shade of the sheltered eating area. We took our inflatable kayak onto the river and watched the kingfishers and buzzards. The supermarket was a 15 minute drive away and we cycled to Duravel each morning for fresh pastries. That was the extent of our explorations-we had everything we needed for a perfect week. We have stayed in many properties at home and abroad but this is the loveliest so far. I hope we will be able to return.
Thank you Caroline for your kind and informative review. As you have written, there is plenty to do in and around Picherre if you simply want to stay put and have a relaxing week. It would be great to see again at Picherre for another relaxing break.
A relaxing family holiday in a beautiful setting
We returned last week from spending the most fantastic two week family holiday at Picherre. My husband is a keen fisherman so her drove with his parents and fishing equipment, and took the Dover - Calais crossing. Myself, my mum and two children aged 4 & 6 decided to fly, even though Bergerac was a closer airport we found flights much cheaper to Limoges. We all arrived at Picherre on the Saturday evening, it was a lovely warm evening and the setting was just perfect. Surrounded by fruit trees, fields of corn, lavender and beautiful weeping willows. We found Picherre easy to find, we loved that it was safe and quiet. We spent most of our days lazing by the pool and exploring the local area. We were very lucky as we had two full weeks of sunshine, most days were 36 degrees, my husband liked to fish early in the morning until around mid day and sometimes in the evenings as he found it too hot in the afternoon. It was the first time he had river fished, and it did not disappoint, a highlight of the trip was a 100lb catfish! after wrestling it up to the top of the bank we got a few pictures before putting it back. We found the kitchen very well equipped and enjoyed to cook as well as eating out. We mainly shopped at Lidl, and E. Leclerc, both in Montayral. as well as Intermarche in the neary village of Puy-l Eveque. There is also a lovely restaurant in Puy-l-Eveque called Henry which we had two great meals. My daughter turned 6 during our trip and Christian recommended 'Buffalo Grill', it was really family friendly, great burgers, cocktails and mixed grills and lots of goodies for the children. During the end of our meal the waitress came out with a giant chocolate cake, and the restaurant sang Happy Birthday, she was so happy! We liked to visit the nearby village of Prayssac for coffees and a wander around, and also had a lovely day out in Cahors. The children liked to play on the park at Capfun. A must see during your stay is a visit to Chateau Gineste at the top of the road, the owner Gerard speaks great English and gave us a little tour with wine tasting, he even gave my daughter a bottle from her birth year to open when she is 18!! We were able to bring two boxes back to the UK. We celebrated our 10yr wedding anniversary during our stay, my husband cooked me a lovely lunch on the terrace and Christian even arranged to have a bottle of Champagne dropped off, which we found very thoughtful. A perfect end to a perfect holiday.
Thank you Laura for your fantastic review. It sounds that you a busy fortnight - I hope that you had time to relax! I'm glad that the Buffalo Grill was a hit. Your husband's catch is largest I have heard of from the many anglers that have stayed at Picherre. I'll post the picture on the website and see if anyone takes up the challenge.
