Nestled in a quiet lane in the heart of this magnificent Venetian village, the Iconpainter's House has been lovingly restored to create 4 stylish and spacious apartments. The upper apartments have a view over the village, the harbour, and across the gulf to the Taygetos mountains and a large balcony on which to eat or relax. The lower, courtyard apartments have a space of their own in the courtyard and are lovely and cool. The House is less than 5 minutes walk from the shops and tavernas on the waterfront and the same distance from the world famous Zaga beach, (home of the Loga Turtle). This is a traditional house expertly restored to give light, airy accommodation which is furnished to the highest standard. It has a feeling of ‘Greek with Chic’ about it. All apartments have air conditioning and well equipped kitchens. There are laundry facilities on site and parking is available 50m from the apartments.
We first came to Koroni in 2002 and fell in love with this picturesque seaside village. We bought the beautiful old Venetian townhouse of the village iconpainter (hence the name) and restored and converted it into the Iconpainter's stylish studio apartments. (This is the property GR502). Three years later we found an irresistible olive grove and vineyard close to Peroulia beach with the most spectacular views towards Koroni and across the Messinian Gulf to the Taygetos mountains. Here we have created 4 detached villas with a swimming pool. (This is property GR501).

The Iconapainter's apartments are situated in the heart of Koroni - just minutes from the lively harbour front and from te wonderful Zaga beach. They are in a quiet lane off the main road, so very peaceful for a relaxing holiday.
‘Thank you for your hospitality. Your studio is ‘luminous’ and lovely. Your welcome added to an overall fantastic time and we are already planning to return in the spring. You are an inspiration’ from Dorothea and Sarah France
‘We love the Iconpainter's House and you two made it really special. We will absolutely recommend you to everyone we know. Thanks again’ - From Kirsten and Craig England
‘The studio had everything and more that we needed. You have obviously taken great time to make it just right and of course, your warmth and welcoming was the bonus’ - From Andrea and Francesca Italy
The world famous Zaga beach (home of the Loga turtle) is on the doorstep. 5 minutes walk takes you to this 2-3km stretch of golden sandy beach. Hard to believe but it is never crowded or busy. At one end there are two charming tavernas but for the majority of the beach, there is just endless sand and aqua blue, clear sea. the swimming here is fantastic. There are two further sandy beaches in the village. There are dozens of other equally wonderful beaches within a 15 minute drive or less.
Kalamata is the nearest airport about 35km away and about 45 minutes drive. Athens is about 3.5 hours drive away. The port of Patras from where ferries come daily from Italy is about 3.5 hours drive away. For those not wishing to hire a car, there are excellent bus links from Kalamata, Athens and Patras. Car hire here is not essential. For days away, a car is useful and we can recommend a reputable and local company for good rates.
The studios are in the heart of the picturesque village of Koroni. Everything is at your fingertips! The village climbs the hill and promontory upon which it sits and the studios are nestled in a quiet lane overlooking the harbour. Koroni castle is magnificent as is the quaint ‘Timios Prodromos Convent’ sitting atop the hill. Kalamata is the main town about 40km away and worth a visit to see its' stylishly renovated Venetian style architecture and drink coffee in the bars and cafes!
Koroni has a large choice of excellent eateries and tavernas. Koroni is one of the four villages appointed by UNESCO to represent the "Mediterranean diet" due to the quality and variety of local produce. There are shops to buy gifts and crafts made locally and of course, shops, banks, post office, petrol stations for daily needs. Fish is caught in Koroni every day and there are 2 wonderful fish shops and a fish market where fresh fish can be bought. Atop the village is Koroni Castle(once a Venetian Fortress) which is worth a walk to see the Convent nestling up there and to experience the absolutely breathtaking views over the sea to the mountains beyond.
If the beach is for you, then other than Zaga beach (5 minutes away) there are the beaches of Peroulia and Kombi 4 km north and 5km south, Finikounda. Finikounda is world famous for wind surfing. More isolated and unspoilt (if that is possible) are the beaches of Tsapi and Marathi. Even on summer days you can visit either and find yourself totally alone!
If you like to sightsee, the Koroni is a great base. From there you can head east to Methoni (another Venetian stronghold with a castle), to Pylos to see Nestor's Palace and Pylos Castle relics from the ancient world. Further afield, but still a day trip are Ancient Messini or Olympia. Ancient Messini is one of Greece's best kept secrets. West over the Langada Pass takes the visitor to Byzantine Mystras a magnificent medieval town siiting overlooking the Spartan Plain.
If you love outdoor activity, then there are fabulous walks with unbelievable scenery at your doorstep. The Neda valley is a moderate drive away but has wonderful rock formations and the river flows into the Ionian. The Viros Gorge is a massive gorge from the peak of the Taygetos Mountains to the sea. The walk itself would take you by old abandoned villages and many beautiful churches. There is boat hire at Pylos and Finikounda and windsurfing gear for hire at Zaga Beach (Koroni) and Finikounda.
