Welcome to our family holiday home in Vabriga. This is a sensitively restored 3 bedroom traditional Istrian stone farmhouse with private 8m x 4m pool, landscaped garden, patio, stone barbecue and roof terrace with sea view. Accommodation includes a unique converted cowshed with en suite situated separately from the main house. The property is in the centre of a popular village within easy walking distance of a shop and numerous restaurants. The nearest sea is 2km from the house, with easy access to many other beaches for swimming and sunbathing. The small town of Tar with more shops and restaurants is a short walk away, and the lively town of Porec with its bustling restaurants, shops and nightlife is a short 15 minute drive away. The house is categorised as 3*** by the local authority.
Ownership is shared between 2 families, who became friends whilst serving together in the Army.
Brian is a self employed management consultant and manages the property. He lives in Leven in Fife with wife Susie.
Peter is a self-employed fundraising consultant, and lives near Nottingham with wife Fiona.
All our offspring have left home and are pursuing their own careers.
Brian Robertson purchased this farmhouse in 2005
We wanted a holiday property that was large enough so that we could all stay at the same time, and could be used by our families. We were looking for somewhere that was close enough to the UK that a long weekend stay was feasible, that had good weather, and would provide a good return on our investment.
Having researched most of Europe, we settled on Istria, and then looked for a house. 1 Sv Anton ticked all the right boxes, since it was an old property with lots of character, there was room to put in a pool, it was in a village with a shop and lots of restaurants within walking distance, and fairly close to the sea. It was also not on a new build estate surrounded by other Brits, something that we wanted to avoid at all costs.
Our house gives you the benefit of living in a sensitively restored stone house with many unique features that you will not find in any of the modern properties for rent in the area. These include a traditional fireplace, a roof terrace, a large BBQ with water and power, and an 8 metre by 4 metre pool. The house is also in the centre of the village with easy walking access to a shop and several restaurants, rather than being added on to the periphery of a town or village as so many of the newer properties are.
Another unique feature of our house is that it is a family holiday home and is used outside the summer months by families and their friends. We like to think that this gives the house a more lived in feel than many of the buy to let properties you will find elsewhere.
Comments from some of our past guests:
We spent 2 weeks in early August at the property – my 2 teen daughters and I loved the spaciousness of this beautiful house, the brilliant garden where we spent hours lying in the sun and the pool where we spent almost as much time playing volley ball. We tried the local restaurants as well as those in Novigrad and Porec and were amazed at what we could get for a very reasonable price. There is a wide variety of supermarkets available which was yet another upside. We all came away declaring this to be one of the best holidays we have had." Mandy Muller
"We had an absolutely fantastic time and loved your property. We found our whole holiday relaxing, simple and easy going. The gardens and pool were beautiful and although we spent a lot time there, we enjoyed exploring Istria and all it had to offer. The house was very well equipped and the books, DVDs and hairdryer especially were much appreciated." Emma Evans
We enjoyed a lot our stay at this house (2 family including 5 kids)! Well placed (in a peaceful neighbourhood), it has almost everything you need to spend a relaxing stay for holidays. Thanks to the pool and the garden, you even don't need to go to the sea (our kids prefered to stay at the house!).
The owner is very polite and nice. He answered quickly and thoroughly to all our questions! Furthermore, our early arrival and late leaving wasn't any problem for him!
Property is lovely, and Istria is beautiful. We were actually pleasantly surprised by how much there is to entertain the kids in the surrounding area - from 2 new waterparks, DinoPark, horse riding, endless parks, water activities....
We will be back next year for certain.
a brilliant house with everything you could possibly need,
location was perfect very quiet with a few bars/restaurants within strolling distance, we enjoyed the kiwi bar just a few minutes walk away with great food & drink,
wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to anybody visiting the area
we all had a fantastic time, thankyou.
An old style converted farm house. We love this house and have spent four very special holidays here. It's not upper market but it's extremely comfortable and pleasant. Ideal for families with children and older folk alike. You can sunbathe by the pool but there are plenty of shady areas too The pool is not over big but a relaxing dip on a hot day is magic. A fantastic bbg is at the bottom of the garden and provides an opportunity for a fun evening. The local restaurants are all within walking distance and serve good food. There are a couple of lovely beaches about10 minutes car-ride away. For days out there are many interesting places to visit. I would recommend this place for a lovely summer holiday to anybody.
We found the villa to be absolutely perfect for our family holiday.
The accommodation was ideal for our grown-up kids with three separate bedrooms. The villa has been tastefully converted from old farm buildings and the decor and facilities are of a very high standard. We particularly loved the big pool, the garden area with its shady terrace for outdoors eating and the stone built BBQ.
The location was ideal as it's situated in a small village with a small store and local restaurants a short walk away and plenty of supermarkets within 5 -15 mins drive. We had driven all the way from Hertfordshire so appreciated a week of relaxation by the pool with visits to Porec, Rovinj and Pula. The sea is 20 minutes walk away and local beaches are about 15-20 mins by car.
The villa is well maintained and clean and with the roof terrace we were always able to find a space for a quite read.
Only downside was that the mosquiitos at night were a bit of a nuisance for some members of the family (while others got off 'bite-free'!).
All in all a great place to spend a relaxing break and see the Istrian coast and countryside.
Wonderful location in the center of croatian village. Nice farm-house, well maintained with all modern facilities. Amazing garden with pleasant swimming pool. Farm house is located very close to four restaurants. The pleasant beach is 7 minutes by car. I will recommend this property to my friends.
The nearest beach is at the old fishing harbour, 2.1km from the house. This is a 20 minute walk, or 5 minute cycle. There are numerous other beaches within easy striking distance by car, including the picturesque town of Novigrad with a variety of swimming spots. All the local beaches are Blue Flag rated with lovely clear water.
The nearest airport is an hour's drive away at Pula, with regular Ryanair services from Stansted (Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday), and a weekly Jet2 service from Edinburgh (Sunday). We usually use Trieste airport, which is up to 2 hours drive away in summer, and has regular daily Ryanair flights from Stansted. We have found the car hire to be cheaper at Trieste, although the border crossings can be busy.
Novigrad, 10 minutes.
Porec, 15 minutes.
Vrsar, 25 minutes.
Limski Fjord, 35 minutes.
Rovinj, 50 minutes.
The local well stocked shop is a 5 mins walk away and has an ATM machine and currency exchange. There are other shops and an ATM in Tar, which is a short walk away. Vabriga has 7 restaurants, including 2 directly opposite the house. The very lively and popular Santa Marina restaurant at the fishing harbour serves excellent barbecued fish and meat and provides live entertainment with seating for up to 600 people.
