Lovely 4 bedroom renovated stone farmhouse, in an idyllic rural setting in the hills of northern portugal, within easy reach of porto airport. doorstep, 20 minutes to the scenic river minho on the border with spain, and 25 minutes to beautiful blue-flag, white-sand beaches. Large secluded garden on terraces with a large 5 metre by 10 metre salt water pool, barbecue area and magnificent views of the valley and surrounding hills. Spacious and fully-equipped open-plan kitchen/living room. Games room and bar downstairs in the old winery. Central-heating in all rooms, plus two log fireplaces. Sleeps 9, ideal for families and groups. The pool area is surrounded by mesh fencing and lockable gates, as is the outside eating and bbq area. Inside stairs have safety gates. All baby/toddler furniture etc supplied.

There is now internet in the house.

About Adria Corrie

We came to live in Portugal in 1993, when my late husband, Roy, took up a job with Taylor’s Port in Porto. A couple of years after we arrived, we bought a ruined farmhouse in the Minho, which we gradually restored. This became our weekend house, a place we loved coming up to, with beautiful scenery and rural tranquility. We retired up here in 2004. Roy called this area paradise, and with total tranquility, barbeques by the pool, Taylor's Vintage Port and Chelsea on TV, maybe he was right! I love living here in the countryside of north-west Portugal. It is a beautiful area, with lovely villages and friendly people. I especially enjoy gardening, walking in the hills,in Portugal or Spain and having family and friends to stay.I live just down the lane from Oliveiras and speak Portuguese.

Why Adria Corrie chose Vila Nova de Cerveira

With four children and six grand-children (currently in Portugal, Brazil and Australia), we wanted more space so that they could all come out for holidays together(usually Summer and Christmas). The solution was just up the road- a ruined granite farmhouse which we passed every day. We bought it and adjoining terraced lands in 2003. Another exciting renovation and landscaping project was underway. Casa das Oliveiras (named after the old olive trees on the land) was completed in 2006. It is a perfect base for family, friends and guests to enjoy this lovely area, amongst hills and close to beaches (20 mins), rivers, villages, day trips to Galicia (Spain) and much more. This is a beautiful area, year-round, and ideal for those who love the outdoors and staying in untouristy areas.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Casa das Oliveiras is ideal for groups (up to 9 people) who are looking for a place to stay in the scenic countryside of north-west Portugal. The views of the Arga hills and Covas valley are magnificent. The gardens spread out along terraces at different levels, with lots of space. There is a pool, barbeque and outdoor dining area, ideal for spending time outdoors. The house is full of character, with wood, granite and features like the old grape press; as well as all the comforts of a renovated house. Having young grand-children, we put in security fencing and gates indoors and out. Indoors, the hub is the kitchen, dining area and living room, all adjoining and leading out on to balconies and the garden. Guests come here to unwind, escape, enjoy the outdoors and explore the area.

Super spot, lovely house, beautiful and thoughtful in design. Very relaxing and homely. Adria and Roy were very welcoming and not intrusive but there for advice and info. Loved the daily bread lady visits! Pool is fantastic!

I thought I would take 5mins to email you to say what a brilliant holiday we had staying in your lovely villa. We wished we had stayed 2 weeks. We are now trying to juggle our diary so we can come agin next year. The children are still talking about the pool and games room. We loved the set up and you as amazing hosts.

The villa was amazing with everything we were hoping for and with enough space to easily fit everyone in with their own space.

Notes on accommodation: This is a spacious secluded house built into the hillside with 3 floors.All guests have said it is bigger than they expected! It is also very well equipped and has a large selection of books. Outside: Large secluded garden in old olive grove on terraces with pool, barbecue area and magnificent views of the valley and surrounding hills. The gardens and pool are not shared. The pool is 5 x 10m.It is a salt water cleaned pool so no chemicals or chlorine are added. There are several loungers and sunshades and a poolside bathroom with shower, sink and loo. Utility Room: Washing machine, ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included and changed once a week. Property cleaned once a week. Beach/pool towels provided. Other: Downstairs in the old winery is a bar with table football as well as exercise bicycle,rowing machine and tummy trimmer. French windows open out onto the outdoor eating and BBQ area. Another dish washer is under the bar.

Great location for a fabulous family holiday

The house is very comfortable and sits at the top of a small village, so great views to be had. Our children loved the swimming pool, which is a good size. We really liked the split level layout which meant that the bedrooms were on two floors and gave the family space to get away from each other. The owner lives nearby, which gave us peace of mind, if we had any problems. We were delighted to come back on the day the maid visited to find lovely fresh clean linen on the beds and the kitchen and living room all clean.

Thoroughly recommend Northern Portugal as a holiday destination, the motorways meant that you are never very far away from anywhere between Porto and Santiago in Spain. The coastline is littered with lovely beaches, people are friendly, and the towns offer lots of history. Don't miss a trip to Santiago de Compostela. And whatever you read, you do NOT need to pay to go into the Cathedral, the entrance is not where the visitor centre is (for tours), but round the side!

Holiday bliss

This was a wonderful property for our three generation holiday. We oldies and the childless younger generation slept on the top floor and we left the downstairs bedrooms for the family with young children. This way, we didn't disturb them and they didn't disturb us. The kitchen was brilliant for food preparation and the occasional indoor breakfast and the adults retired there for that last bottle of wine if the evening got a bit chilly. We barbequed every evening and ate outside just adding a salad, fruit and cheese.

We all loved the pool. It was perfectly safe as it is fenced and we always locked the gate We spent hours in it and appreciated the outside bathroom beside it.

We used the washing machine and the dishwasher which were both in very good order and easy to use. Everything was spotless when we arrived and the pretty garden was well maintained.

The owner called on us soon after we arrived and once more a couple of days later and we felt we could have contacted her if there was any problem. There was no problem!

If you are looking for a comfortable, quiet, well maintained property we thoroughly recommend this one.

Portuguese Paradise

Casa das Oliveiras was the perfect property and location for our 2 families with teenagers. The views from the house over the hills and valleys were spectacular, far more stunning than they even appear to be in the photographs. The house was large, clean and well equipped with lots of balconies and bathrooms for everyone! Oodles of character and space to relax. The pool was large, clean and well maintained, with sun loungers and shades to soak up the sunshine/shade whilst enjoying the peace and the fabulous views.

Adria was especially helpful and welcoming , with her home only a short walk away if we needed her.

There's so much here for everyone: beautiful swallowtail butterflies everywhere, a resident family of lizards, grapes and olives growing all around. WITH NO MOZZIES to spoil our evening meals in the garden.

The night skies were amazing with uninterrupted views of the heavens, we enjoyed the most spectacular meteor cascade whilst lying on the loungers by the pool.

There was a great choice of local sandy beaches, some good for surfers and others calm and great for swimmers. The bonus for us was that there was always plenty of free parking next to each beach.

We enjoyed 13 days of sunshine 30 degrees plus, just one rainy day.

Our son loved the challenge of cycling up and down the hills everyday, encountering more goats than cars on the steep winding roads.

This is a wonderful unspoilt area packed with historical towns and charming little villages to explore. The local restaurants are welcoming and relatively cheap. We'd love to return at a cooler time and explore some more.

The roads were much quieter than the U.K. but it took a while to understand the local toll payment system. A good hire car with air con and satnav is essential.

Highly recommended, especially by our teenage sons.

I hope you can come back again when the weather is cooler as you would like.It is still hot here and dry,I am looking forward to some rain!! House in the hills.

We have just returned from the most perfect week. The house was just as described; it was beautiful, offering a very high standard of accommodation . The larder and fridge had been stocked very thoughtfully and it was immaculate both inside and out. Adria welcomed us at the beginning of our stay, left suggestions of where to go and the offer to pop down to her house if we required anything.

The area is simply stunning with villages and towns to explore and we divided our time doing this and doing very little relaxing by the beautiful pool.

A stunning location and an equally stunning house.

This is a great place to go on day trips from,Santiago de Compostela,the famous pilgrimage site is 90mins away by car.Oporto and the port wine cellars are just over I hour away.Guimareans,the old capital of Portugal with its old castle and palace to visit,as well as the lovely old squares is only 1hour away.

Ponte de Lima,25 mins away is a beautiful old town with lovely gardens,the Lima river and old Roman bridge.

Eating out,over the river in Spain,is always a treat,for seafood and tapas in particular,as well as the local Albarino wine.

Baiona,in Spain,is a beautiful town with several beaches and lots of restaurants,as well as a lovely walk around the old castle walls.

BikePark is a new downhill mountain biking service with shuttle service,located 20 mins drive away near the top of the Arga mountains.
