Situated in the rural department of the Correze Villas de Leypinas offers a quiet retreat with historic attractions and activities for the adventurous close by. The 3 villas have been created in restored farm buildings each with its own character. Access is via a private driveway. Each villa has a private, shaded terrace with table, chairs and a barbecue overlooking the large gardens and the Correzien countryside. There is a 12m x 5m saltwater pool.
The largest of our villas, La Grande Porcherie, offers a large modern living space with all the original oak beams and posts exposed. On the ground floor there is an open plan living/dining area and kitchen. The living/dining area has TV/DVD/HiFi and a wood burning stove. The kitchen is well equipped with crockery/cutlery/utensils and has a toaster, coffee maker, kettle, gas hob/electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms, both have double beds and 1 has an extra single bed. There is a large shower room. A hairdryer, iron/ironing board are also supplied.
We decided to leave the UK in 2003 and spent the following 12 months backpacking around the world. France was always our first choice of countries in which to settle and so, in 2005 we bought a farm complex here in the Correze. The first 18 months were spent creating our holiday accommodation then we set up a small building business to fund the next part of our dream. We are currently renovating our house and barn with a view to offering B&B in 2013.
The Owner purchased this barn in 2005
Our criteria when looking for a place to create our home and business were, remote but not isolated, accessible but quiet, traditional buildings and community. Our small hamlet of Leypinas is in the commune of Saint Pardoux Corbier, our arrival pushed the population up to 351! Amazing considering we're less than an hour from Brive and Limoges airports and only a short drive away from the A20 autoroute! We find our new neighbours extremely friendly, we couldn't have been made more welcome and are made to feel very much part of the community.
It is a lovely, quiet rural setting but everything is close by, shops, bars and restaurants are 6 Km away. Locally we also have lovely picturesque villages and are within day trip distance to the highlights of the Dordogne but without the crowds! There is fishing, horse riding, karting, canoeing available close by for the more active. The stunning race course and its national stud are at Pompadour only 7 Km away. Tourism is still in its infancy in this area of France but there's a very friendly 'energy' during the summer. The weekly evening farmers market in our village represents all that is good about this region, good food, music and a very friendly atmosphere!
What a gem! Truely away from it all and immaculately presented. We enjoyed it so much that we went back for more...
The gites are beautifully converted stone farm buildings arranged overlooking the garden with crystal clear pool and far reaching views beyond. Each gite has it's own private and shaded outdoor area with table, chairs and BBQ.
The owners, Jacqui and Dave, live to the rear of the gites. They are excellent hosts - on hand but respectful of your privacy. Adjacent to their house and the gites is a games room with table football, lots of outdoor games and DVDs.
We stayed in 2 of the 3 gites - it was such a hard act to follow that we returned for a second week! The property we booked further south was such a disappointment that we turned around and went back.
For the first week we stayed in the one bedroom "La Petite Porcherie". Simply furnished to a high standard and immaculately clean giving that all important feel that you are the first to stay there.
Fitted kitchen with everything you need - including washing machine (no dishwasher). Generously sized bedroom with en suite shower room.
The outside area is probably the most private of the three and the closest to the pool.
For the second week we stayed in the larger two bedroom gite which is in the centre of the three. Furnished the same as the one bedroom but approximately 50% bigger giving a great open plan kitchen / dining / living room for the whole of the ground floor. Kitchen includes a dishwasher. Two double bedrooms, one with an additional single bed. Shower room off the landing.
A very generous welcome pack is provided on arrival that's a really nice touch - wine, bread, butter, home made jam, home grown veg., tea and coffee.
The area is off the tourist trail and has a number of "Most Beautiful" classified villages within an easy drive away. Not a single paper weight or postcard seller to be found - true rural France. The small town of Lubersac is about 4 miles away and has a well stocked supermarket, bank, etc. The local community within walking distance has a bar / tabac and pretty church around a central square.
The community hosts a weekly BBQ in July and August where local produce is sold and cooked on a communal barbie. There's music, dancing in the square and a bouncy castle for the children. A great evening.
A tremendous amount of hard work has been put in by Jacqui and Dave to create their rural retreat. It is a credit to them
The coast is approx. a 2.5 hour drive away.
Villas de Leypinas is situated between Limoges and Brive. Limoges airport is approx 55 mins drive away, car hire is available. Calais is approx. 7 hours drive. There are mainline train stations in Brive and Limoges.
We are a short walk away from the small village of Saint Pardoux Corbier with its large fishing lake and bar. 6km away is the town of Lubersac which has supermarkets and restaurants/bars. Pompadour, with its impressive chateau, national stud and race course, is 8km away. The Correze is home to six of France's most beautiful villages, all are within an hours drive. The main attractions of the Dordogne are an hours drive south of us.
Pompadour has horse racing throughout the summer and eventing at other times. Our small village of Saint Pardoux holds weekly Wednesday evening local produce markets during July and August; there are communal barbecues and live music.
