Four friends who enjoy sharing holidays. At David and Andrea's delightful house we found it all - a warm welcome, every comfort, wonderful peach, beautiful countryside and, above all, fantastic wines. Thank you both. (20 June - 4 July 2015)

We had a brilliant fortnight in a great house. The house was so well equipped with all you could wish for when having a holiday. Andrea and David were fantastic hosts who have put a lot of thought into ensuring those home comforts whilst away. We all look forward to our return visit. Thank you both for a great holiday. (25 July - 8 August 2015)
Another relaxing and enjoyable holiday here! We made some new discoveries, including chateau Bridoire - a must for a rainy day! Night market in Castillon was excellent again, as was the canoe trip along the Dordogne. Andrea and David were lovely hosts again - hope to return some time in the future. (8 August - 22 August 2015)

About Andrea Gregory
Your hosts are David and Andrea who spent the majority of their working lives in the hotel and catering industry. They are, therefore, experienced at ensuring that their guests have everything they require for a perfect holiday. Prior to meeting Andrea, David was an actor and has many credits for film, TV and radio. He says that he changed his stage to the one behind a bar where he could entertain people in a different way.
Why Andrea Gregory chose Saint-Méard-de-Gurçon
They bought this property late in 1999 and completed the purchase on 2nd January 2000. Andrea's father lived in the area for many years and it was as a result of visiting him for holidays that they fell in love with this beautiful area of rural France. Although in the country the area is well served by local airports, is only a 6-hour drive from Caen, and only 4 hours from Spain.
What makes this Barn unique
You will enjoy the quiet and peaceful atmosphere that this property offers. Enjoy a stroll in the vines or in the woods, just down the road. We have seen deer, wild boar, foxes, badgers, rabbits, all on our doorstep - and any number of birds.

A great place to stay in the Western Dordogne
It was the first trip to the Dordogne for our group of three American couples, and the house suited us very well. It is roomy and well appointed, with an especially large kitchen - very helpful for the morning and evening meals, which we always ate in the house. Good size bedrooms and baths as well. David and Andrea were always helpful as needed. Now, because of the location, we had to do some driving to get to spots like Sarlat and Rocamadour - musts for any first visit to the region. But the countryside scenery is half the fun in the region, so this was not an issue at all. There is so much in the area that we did not get to see - we must return again, and would happily find ourselves once more at Le Grand Bost when we do.
A grand holiday at Le Grand Bost
We have been visiting France for the past 16 years and in that time I can say the Le Grand Bost is up there with the very best, if not the best we have stayed at. The barn is exactly as pictured, the English TV and WiFi worked, beds very comfortable and all the facilities were as stated. The pool area is a sun trap and it will be hard to find a swimming pool that is as warm as this one without being heated. Don't be put off by the owners being onsite. Andrea and David were great hosts joining you if invited but also leaving you to get on with things as you wish. Their local knowledge is extensive and my thanks to them for suggesting lunch at one particular restaurant. If sea food is your passion you won't regret a visit on a Sunday lunchtime. No hesitation in recommending Le Grand Bost.
Excellent accommodation and facilities
Wonderful family holiday at Le Grand Bost - the barn is very well equipped, spacious and you want for nothing. The swimming pool, which is salt water filter type, is first class and ideal for cooling down on the hot sunny days. Location wise, beautiful countryside all around, good for Bergerac, Bordeaux and St Emilion areas. Would recommend.
Fabulous pool and quiet location
We spent a very happy week at this property. We had been attracted by the pool and garden and neither disappointed. The pool was very large for a three bedroom property, and the garden was lovely for our toddler to run around in.
The house was well equipped (we just needed to move all the trinkets so our son didn't get his hands on them!) and the thoughtful indoor and garden toys were a lovely bonus.
The location was also ideal for us, giving us quiet (virtual) solitude and easy access to Lac du Gurcon and its beach/lake swimming, and being within driving distance of lovely towns like St Emilion.
Finally, the lovely owners lived next door but left us to ourselves, giving us the security of knowing they were there but the utmost privacy at all times.
We hope to return again soon.
We absolutely enjoyed our holiday at this beautiful property. The property and its surroundings were fantastic and the property had everything you could want, which is down to perfect organisation by the two wonderful hosts. They made our stay here a "home from home". The weather was very, very kind to us which enabled us to make full use of that wonderful pool. It was lovely to just sit, relax, swim and eat in such peaceful surroundings. Needless to say we highly recommend this holiday home to anyone. We cannot wait for our return next year. Thank you both so much.
House with everything
Although we were a bit unlucky with the weather, the house had absolutely everything you could possibly have wanted. I don't think we have been to a better equipped house in the last 20 years. There were plenty of places that we could have enjoyed the sun (had it appeared) with or without shade, lots of tables, chairs, loungers and cushions. We found a good selection of restaurants within easy driving distance. Andrea and David were available next door, should they be needed, but totally unobtrusive. The house, pool and garden were totally private and un-overlooked. Excellent holiday home.
Coast/Beach: This area in the Dordogne is not coastal but the beaches on the Atlantic coast, including the famous Dune de Pyla at Arcachon, can be reached in under two hours. Biarritz is three hours away. Locally there is the Lac de Gurcon which has sandy shores and a large lake suitable for swimming. There are bars, a waterslide and pedallos. It is a wonderful venue for children. Travel: Bergerac airport, served by Ryanair, Flybe and Jet2, is 40 minutes away. Bordeaux airport, served by BA, Easyjet, BMIBaby, Flybe, and Aer Lingus, is just over an hour. Driving by car from the channel ferry ports is uncomplicated and mainly motorway driving (unless you choose to use smaller roads). You can benefit from a DISCOUNT with Brittany Ferries - ask us for further details. Distances: Sainte Foy la Grande - 15 minutes. Bergerac - 40 minutes. Bordeaux - 1 hour. Perigueux - 1.25 hours. Rocamadour - 2 hours. Sarlat - 2 hours. Duras - 45 minutes. Spanish border - 3 hours. Further Details: Le Grand Bost is just outside the village of Montazeau which has a very good restaurant and a 'vente directe' chateau. There are dozens of 'vente directe' wine producers in the region and wine tastings can be arranged. The nearest village for bread and emergency supplies is five minutes by car, and has several shops including a pharmacy, a restaurants and a doctor's surgery. Supermarket shopping is 15 minutes away. The area is well served by restaurants and cafe/bars. The Dordogne is a beautiful part of southwest France with a very good climate. Within short drives there is the city of Bordeaux, the beautiful and historic town of St Emilion, the very picturesque town of Brantome, Duras with its castle, Bergerac with its quaint old town and many more wonderful places to visit. If, like us, you enjoy food and wine you will be in heaven. For the more energetic there are countryside walks, cycling (we can arrange cycle hire), canoeing on the river, golf close by, horseriding, and caves at Sarlat. Montazeau has a tennis court for hire. Nearby Lac de Gurson has proved popular with families and offers lake swimming, pedallos, sandy beaches and 3 bar/restaurants. If you are prepared to take a longer journey you can visit Cognac, Angouleme or Limoges - or head further south to the Spanish border - have a day out and lunch in Biarritz.
