|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
Casa Lisa is only 10 minutes walk from the Tuscan village of Sassofortino famous for its chestnut forests and castle. Set high above the plains of the Maremma stretching out towards the sea and island of Elba. A recently restored old Italian farmhouse set in its own vineyard of Sangiovese grapes. The property has taken four years to renovate and offers a peaceful location to enjoy the beautiful countryside, food and wine of the region. Despite its rural location lovely beaches are only 35 minutes away by car and the ancient city of Siena 45 minutes. The airports of Pisa are 1 hr 40 min and Rome 2 hr 30 min away by car. The farmhouse is set in its own private estate of 5 hectares which visitors are free to roam. Rentals are weekly from Saturday to Saturday, 980 - 1664 Euros see pricing table. Pets are welcome with prior consent from the owners. Alternative rental dates by arrangement. A new pool was built in 2016 offering a private place to cool off in the hottest periods..
We are Mike and Lyn Pettet and have a daughter Jody three Labradors and one Parklands terrier. We are fortunate to live in The Costwolds and have a lovely farmhouse in Italy where we can enjoy beautiful scenery great wines and food. We love the countryside and walking our dogs and have filled our home with nice things which we hope our guests will appreciate. Our guests who come to say at Casa Lisa will enjoy the area as it offers a very quiet setting, close enough to the local village to be able to walk to everything and join in the evening entertainment and village way of life in rural Tuscany. We also love the beaches and visit Siena regularly to sit and watch the world go by. We think the area is still unspoilt and a great base in which to explore The Maremma and surrounding area.
Mike Pettet purchased this farmhouse in 2004
During a visit to Italy in 2004 we came across Sassofortino a little Hillside village overlooking The Maremma. We love to walk and thought the chestnut forests which the area is famous were lovely. During a walk down the side of the hill which the Fort of Sasofortino sits we came across an old farmhouse that was built around a 100 years ago. It had not been lived in for over 10 years and was owned by a brother and sister from the village. We made enquiries and bought the house and set about its restoration which we completed in 2008. The reconstruction was a major project as the house had to be brought up to date and yet we wanted to retain the original charm and feel for the way Italian village life was and is still run. In 2016 we finally decided to build a pool near the house but in a private place below one of the terraces. It has proven very popular with recent guests and we hope our new visitors enjoy the enhancement to their stay at Casa Lisa
We love the area which is so typical of a way of life we miss in England where quality of life is more important than worldly goods. We like our life in the Cotswolds which is also very beautiful but we are more relaxed in Casa Lisa. The quality of the food and taste is a considerable step above even our organic food and combined with high quality wines is for us a great pleasure. More importantly is the knowledge of the food and small family run restaurants which create such a great welcome to visitors. Casa Lisa is fortunate to be on the edge of the village but not remote so a 10 minute walk from the house will take you into the heart of the village where you will find a restaurant, pizza/restaurant and various bars..A new swimming pool is being built in March 2016 for completion by the beginning of April 2016. Measuring 3x5 metres it will be located beside the vineyard and completely private. We hope our guests enjoy the pool particularly in the hot summer months and it improves their overall experience of their stay.
Dear Mike and lyn Thankyou for a wonderful stay at Casa Lisa, it was a week that will be in our memories for a long time. When we got back someone asked me what we did in Italy and I replied, stayed at a lovely house in beautiful countryside, ate, drank and had lots of laughs all week - cant think of anything better. Harrogate North Yorkshire
Hope this finds you well.
Perhaps you remember that I stayed in your house with my family in April 2010 and we really enjoyed it.
I´m contacting you today because I would like to rent it once again, this time for me and an old friend as we are planning a hiking tour in Tuscany.
I would appreciate if your house is available in the period from November 5th to November 12th.
I look forward to hearing from you soon !
We had an amazing two weeks at Casa Lisa. It is a beautiful and well-equipped cottage with wonderful views and the swimming pool was fantastic for the children. We also saw lots of wildlife - wild boar, birds of prey, deer and plenty of lovely lizards. The location is great - Siena (1 hour), Massa Maritima (45 mins) and Florence (2 hours). and also for walking to the local village to eat in De Momo the fantastic local restaurant with delicious fresh ingredients, incredibly friendly staff and great local wine. Wish we could have stayed longer. Back to the drizzle now!
We had a week in Casa Lisa, the first week of August; what a wonderful place. As described the property is beautifully restored with everything you could need. Extremely comfortable and quiet, it was a perfect place to relax and enjoy Tuscany.
With the village a short walk up the lane it was no problem to get fantastic fresh food and wine every day from the small, but very well stocked Co-Op and the local delicatessen. Staff were so friendly and nice. There are two small pizzerias in the village, one of which (II Fornaccio) was closed the entire time we were there. The other (Da Momo) was buzzing every night with other visitors to the area of every nationality. The food was fresh & delicious, the service was quick and value for money was fantastic. We really enjoyed the evening we spent there. Our only other evening out was a lovely pizza restaurant in Roccatederighi (approx 3 miles away and worth a visit).
Casa Lisa is beautifully cared for inside. It was clean and cool when we arrived after a long, dusty drive and previous occupants had left some bits of food and water (although we had bought our own shopping as we arrived late Saturday afternoon and wasn’t sure if there would be anything open on Sunday). Outside the gardens were well maintained and the views over the Tuscan hills and the Marremma National Park are stunning; photographs don’t do them justice. With no light pollution at night, the stars are amazing. We were visited by deer during the day and wild boar on the lower garden terrace at night (looking for fallen fruit from the trees). Both very shy, but lovely to see in their natural environment.
The new pool is great, a real bonus. All we did for 5 out of the 6 days was lounge on the bottom terrace, sunbathe, read & dip in to cool off. There were beds & umbrellas down there for our comfort.
There are lots of leaflets inside the property. We hadn’t intended to do any touring, but decided on one day to visit Massa Marittima and the Roman ruins at Rosello. Only half an hour’s drive from Sassafortino and a really lovely day. We had been in Sienna the day before our arrival; again only an hour or so drive away and the beach would only have been 40 minutes’ drive away if we’d have wanted a day there. Casa Lisa is perfectly situated for days out.
The owner & Massimo were quick to answer our questions; booking was very easy. We would love to return to Casa Lisa again and would thoroughly recommend it.
We are four middle aged adults with no experience of Tuscany. We did have a requirement for a peaceful location with decent road distances to some of the must see Tuscany cities and beaches.
Like it or like it not, when hiring a villa from Ownerd Direct you feel it a bit of a gamble in terms of what it actually turns out to be like.
Casa Lisa was exactly what was described in the write up. We knew we had been very successful in our find as soon as we spied the house down the lane.
Casa Lisa is a rustic little farm house, with more than adequate living and relaxing space - for our party anyway. The farm house is totally private with no neighbours overlooking. Just a mile up the road (track) is the lovely, friendly, little village of Sassofortino, which boast at least two excellent restaurants.
The farm house and surrounding country is hilly, so anyone not really fit for uphill walking might struggle. Driving is of course an option.
The addition of the pool has clearly made the farm house even more desirable.
We encountered Polecats,Wild Boar, Deer, Honey Buzzards and many more native species-just in the back garden(Vineyard).
We were close enough to the main roads to get about and visit all of Tuscany.
The owner and his agent were always there to answer any questions, and without a doubt ,Casa Lisa was the main reason we had such a wonderful holiday.
Casa Lisa is situated very close to Sassofortina, a tranquil Tuscan village, the villa has wonderful views and the recent addition of a small swimming pool gives visitors chance to cool down during the hot summer days. Anyone who enjoys bird watching will appreciate the sight and lovely call of golden orioles as well as seeing honey buzzards. We were lucky to have visits from deer and a wild boar, wonderful experience. Casa Lisa is situated about 45mins from the coast and trips to Elba are readily available, well worth a visit.
The villa is very comfortable with terraces for relaxing in the sun or outdoor eating. Both bedrooms are air conditioned which was a real bonus.
We would recommend a holiday here and hope to return in the future.
We enourmously enjoyed our stay at Casa Lisa, it's a charming 2 up 2 down house which the current owners have tastefully extended and re-fashioned into a comfortable, flexible haven which overflows onto a series of terraces that extend down the hill to a private swimming-pool, vinyard and orchard. The views from the property are stunning, extending across the valley and plains below and both the local village (Sassofortino) and the neighbouring Roccatederighi are charming, populated by several great restaurants, shops and a market for local produce. Two of Tuscany's best kept beaches (Cala Violina and Marina di Alberese) are a 45 minute drive away and the owner and his manager on the ground (who lives nearby) are both concientious and full of good tips and advice on the local area. I could not recommend it more highly.

Washed by the clear blue water of the Tyrrhenian sea, the Maremma coastline's long sandy beaches are bordered by dunes decked with green bushes and flowers where thick pine groves meet the sea. The long sandy shore runs from Punta Ala which is 35 min car journey from Casa Lisa down through the Maremma National Park.
