Unbeatable Location

  • 4 of 5

This cottage was adorable and the Harbert Woods location is truly unbeatable. My husband, two children (16 and 9) and I stayed here for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The full bed was not going to be big enough for us, so we brought a queen sized blow up mattress and set it up in the living room - the size was perfect. This cottage is fully stocked with pretty much everything you would need (no salt and pepper, but we bought some and left it there) for a quiet, secluded beach getaway. The bathroom is tiny and feels cramped (I am 6' tall and my knees were uncomfortably close to the shower when I was using the toilet), but this is a COTTAGE - not a mansion. The beach was INCREDIBLE and the water was crystal clear. There is a sand bar not far from shore that you can swim to and hang out on. The sand is powder soft and the sunsets are SPECTACULAR. This location is truly perfect.

Perfect Little Cottage For A Relaxing Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for your hospitality! My Mother-in-law and I enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table talking half the night over a perfectly picked bottle of wine. We all enjoyed our stay. We walked into a very clean and kept cottage. We have stayed in several different cabins/cottages over the years and you never know what you're going to walk into, so we always bring a tub of our own kitchen supplies. They were not needed here. So nice to have everything in the kitchen so clean. Although we didn't use it, the grill was also very new looking and clean. Very appreciated! There is a laundry line for hanging wet suits and towels. The cottage was very well stocked with anything you might need plus games for the kids to play and things for the beach too. We also enjoyed a walk on the beach every night. So nice not to have to deal with driving, parking and a whole lot of other people. We were pretty much the only ones at the beach. The sunsets were remarkable! We also went for walks around the roads and we saw deer EVERY morning. They don't run off either. You could stand there for hours at a time and watch them within just a few feet from the road. I can't say enough about how nice our stay was. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you so much! (Just an added note for those complaining about the musty smell, which really wasn't that bad. It is an older home in the woods in Michigan. They all smell like that. It brought back a lot of wonderful memories staying with my bestest friend at her Grandparents house.)

Utterly charming

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have stayed at Annie's Cottage 4 times over the past several years. Each time we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we've had a wonderful vacation. We are from the East Coast so we found the pricing very reasonable compared to other beach cottages we've tried. The house comes well stocked with necessities, and everything was very clean and in excellent working order. Annie's cottage was everything we had hoped for, and we hope to return again in the future.

Repeat family vacations

  • 5 of 5

Greetings! My family has enjoyed Annie's Cottage in the Woods the past two summer (2013 and 2014). Each time, we felt comfortable and invited as if we were family. Our first stay, my children were quite young (18 months and 3 years old) and other than not having a bath (shower only), we found the stay to be delightful and we all enjoyed our time close to the lake. Having access to the private beach was wonderful as it made the experience far less intimidating for our kids. Our repeat stay was in Aug. of 2014 for a full week. Again, we were not disappointed. Both with the homey comfort of the cottage, the close proximity to the beach and the short drive into Stevensville, St. Joe, etc. My children were able to handle the short walk and stairs to the private beach on their own at this stay (ages 2 & 4). And the shower was a non-issue as well. We have had 2 wonderful summer vacations in Annie's homey cottage on a private Lake Michigan beach, all at a very affordable cost! We love our time there, our children adore the cottage and we anticipate returning in the years to come. It is a nice break from the hustle and bustle of our connected world with all of the benefits and simple luxuries of home and we'd recommend this cottage to anyone! And we always look forward to the bottle of wine greeting us too!

Very Poor

  • 1 of 5

My wife and I stayed in Annie's Cottage in September of 2014. Well I would like to stay professional here but the truth has to be told. We have been using VRBO and Home Away for years. We have never experienced such a dirty home as Annie's Cottage. The interior had black mold in the air conditioner, the furniture also had mold. the windows were filthy and home decor was matted with dirt and cob webs. The ceiling fans were coated with mold, dirt and grime. I tried cleaning for three days. We cleaned and cleaned but soon I was feeling ill from the level of mold and dust. We had to vacate the premises within days of what was to be a three week stay

Owner's Response: I am perplexed that after spending 15 nights of your 19 night booking ,you suddenly found the property so unacceptable that you chose to leave. Apparently, in such a rush that it precluded you from returning rearranged furniture and semi hidden household items to their original places as well as not disposing of your garbage and retrieving laundry from outside. After 15 years of positive customer experiences, I am surprised and dismayed by your attempts at intimidation by daily 3am and 6am phone calls, threats of referrals to health departments and promising to find ways to preclude me from renting Annie's Cottage, all of which will not serve to satisfy your quest for financial satisfaction. Annie's Cottage is not a modern, sleek environment, but is by no means matted in grime ,mold, and cobwebs. A number of families have rebooked from year to year and continue to do so. I am always open to suggestions and comments and am happy to do what is reasonable to improve a vacation experience, but harassment and threats and untruths will be addressed as such.

Lovely Vintage Beach Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed at Annie's Cottage 3 times in the past year. Most recently for a week in July. I've already made plans to come back for a weekend this Fall and a week next summer! I first stayed here in July 2012 and chose the cottage based on its location and price. Trust me when I tell you that a better deal cannot be found, I’ve looked all the way from Michiana to St. Joe. The cottage is the perfect size for a small group. Last year it was my family of 5 for a week and most recently I stayed with 3 of my girlfriends. It’s clean, has all the linens and bath towels you would need. The shower is a bit small, which was only a slight issue for my Dad and brother who are both over 6ft tall. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots and pans and we greatly appreciated the bottle of wine Annie left for us! It can get hot if there is no breeze, but if you leave the air conditioner and ceiling fans on during hot nights it will cool down. The neighborhood is quiet and not at all crowded. The walk to the beach path and stairs only takes a minute or two. The climb back up those stairs can be tiresome, but after a few times it gets easy. In the 3 times I’ve stayed here I’ve never thought the beach was crowded. On the weekends there might be 4 or 5 families spread out and the beach for this association is quite large. On weekdays we are usually the only ones on the beach. Plus there is a public beach only a minute away that we use before and after we check in and out of the cottage. There is a fee to drive into the Warren Dunes if you prefer to use that beach. Another bonus, the cottage is down the street from the Swedish Bakery (open Fri-Mon at 7am!) which makes the best Danishes I’ve ever had. It’s about 20 minutes to Meijer’s in Stevensville and 15 minutes by the Red Arrow Highway to New Buffalo. On the most recent stay we drove back to Chicago for a Monday night concert at Soldier Field and it only took an hour each way. I love this little beach cottage and can’t wait to go back!
