The cottage comprises a lounge area with large Perigourdine style fireplace and woodburning stove, English free view digital TV and sofa bed. The main bedroom is on the mezzanine level and has a double bed and en-suite WC and roll top bath. The second bedroom has bunk beds and a fitted shower cubicle. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine. There are dining areas both inside and on a covered floral terrace. Cot and high chair can be supplied on request. The cottage is suitable for a maximum of 4 adults or 2 adults with up to 4 children.
Les Tachats is located on the outskirts of the picturesque hilltop village of Hautefort, in the Perigord Noir region of the Dordogne. An area of rolling hills, historic chateaux and picture postcard villages. The cottage and studio were originally a tied "fermette" owned by the chateau. The building has been beautifully restored retaining many of the original features and is set in a floral garden which continues to win prizes in the 'Hautefort in Bloom' gardening competitions. There is a solar heated swimming pool and childrens paddling pool with a generous sun terrace which benefits from a south facing aspect and panoramic views of the valley and the chateau. Les Tachats is ideally situated to visit the many attractions of the Dordogne.
We are a semi-retired professional couple in our early 50's who moved to France from Hampshire in 2004, to indulge our love of good food, good wine, and a passion for our garden.
Having spent many happy family holidays in the Dordogne, our two sons have now grown up and our 6 grandchildren are now also regular visitors. We are friendly people who thoroughly enjoy meeting our visitors and our aim is to ensure that our guests have an excellent stay.
Sheila Weedon purchased this cottage in 2004
We fell in love with the region whilst enjoying a number of family holidays. This was primarily because of the beautiful countryside with its lakes, rivers & forests, the wealth of visitor attractions and the friendly local culture. Our village at Hautefort St Agnan is particularly pretty with a premier chateau, a 17th century hospice museum and a charming old quarter nestled around the chateau. The village also has good amenities including a number of restaurants, shops, bank ATM, doctors, dentist, etc.
Staying at Les Tachats offers the benefit of being able to both relax in very quiet, beautiful surroundings, not overlooked by other properties, but also being a few minutes walk away from the village shops and supermarket. One can take a stroll in the morning for the fresh bread & croissants without having to get in the car and also visit the restaurants in the evening & enjoy a glass of wine with a meal without having to drive back afterwards.
What can we say - fantastic hosts, fantastic location, amazing house. By far the best holiday we have ever had. A,S & C - Bristol.
It's so well geared up for two young boys and it's felt like our home for the last 2 weeks. We will be very sad to leave as it's been such a special holiday. M, J, R & M - London.
This is the 1st time we've ever returned to a holiday destination and it has surpassed our enjoyment of last year. G & J - Leeds.
This is our 1st experience of France & it exceeded our expectations! Weather, hosts, accommodation & location 'merveilleuse'. We probably could have seen more but you spoiled us with the pool, garden etc. We hope to return again. R, J, E, E, & M - N Ireland.
Many thanks for being such fantastic hosts, so much knowledge of the surrounding areas. We will never forget this week as I found it the perfect venue & atmosphere to propose to by beautiful girlfriend under the stars. A & A - Newcastle.

Nice period property, on a quiet, but very convenient position on the edge of the village. Easy walking distance to a good supermarket.
Very welcoming hosts, and the property is surprisingly easy to find.
All the amenities you need, in a lovely setting.
Garden and pool are excellent. Sun or shade spots available.
Plenty to see in the area, and restaurants just a short drive away. ie less than 5 minutes.
Chateaus, lakes, caverns to visit, and all easy to get to.
No negatives, only positives, and will definitely consider returning.
The cottage is cosy and well maintained and a treat to have an ensuite roll-top bath. The children were very excited about the bunk beds! The pool is clean and very welcoming on a hot day. The playground kept the children entertained, giving us a chance to relax. Our hosts, Sheila and Kevin were friendly, helpful, but unobtrusive. We recommend accepting their offer of a BBQ on the Friday evening! The cottage is within walking distance (15-20min) of the centre of Hautefort and, very handily, a 5 min walk from a supermarket. The bakeries in both Hautefort and St Agnan are excellent!
We've just (reluctantly) returned from a fantastic two weeks stay in the cottage at Les Tachets with our three children aged 12, 10 and 6.
The cottage was comfortable, well equipped and provided an excellent base for some great days out. We particularly enjoyed canoeing down the Dordogne, cycling on the velo rail (Thiviers), visiting the local lake beach at Rouffiac, exploring towns such as Sarlat and Brantome and the beautiful local Hautefort chateau!
Sheila and Kevin were the perfect hosts, always on hand if needed but without being intrusive. The gardens are stunning and so well maintained as was the pool area which was a particular highlight for our 3!
We had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Our children loved the pool and used it every day. The cottage, Les Tachats was lovely with lots of character and a beautiful big garden. Sheila and Kevin are very welcoming and friendly and are happy to give suggestions for good places to visit.
We visited the Chateau De Hautefort which is a five minute drive away and worth a visit. We also did some canoeing, the water park and the dinosaur park. We went to Sarlat too and looked around the market.
We had a lovely meal at a restaurant which is a ten minute walk away from the cottage. The locals have an evening market on a Thursday with live music and cheaper food and drink, a great atmosphere.
We would recommend Les Tachats to friends and family. It ticked all of our boxes. Thanks again Sheila and Kevin.
We stayed in the cottage-my husband and I and 3 children (aged 3, 7 and 15). The cottage was small but suited our needs very well - it had everything we needed and felt very private, even though Shiela and Kevin were close by if we needed them. Pool area was perfect-very clean and with the peace of mind of being fully enclosed. The kids loved the gardens, and it was great to have WiFi to keep the teenager happy! We enjoyed a lovely barbeque with Shiela, Kevin and the other guests one evening. There is plenty to do in the area-the chateau in hautefort was worth a visit and there is an underground cave about 10 mins drive away. We also visited sarlat, perigeaux, roqamadour, forget des singes, prehiso park, inland lakes and jacqou park which was great for the younger children and good value. We would definitely recommend the property and would stay again if we were in the area. Thanks Shiela and Kevin!
Family of four Staying at Les Tachats 10th July, 2015.
Sheila and Kevin were the perfect hosts at the perfect Les Tachats Cottage, on a perfect holiday in Dordogne.
The sun shone for the whole week and we had a fabulous time.
The property itself is beautiful and extremely well maintained, with every amenity and taste catered for. The loft bedroom is elegant and the roll top bath was the perfect touch. The downstairs, including the living area, kitchen and 2nd bedroom was a good size with plenty of room all round.
The pool is amazing and CLEAN thanks to meticulous, daily attention by Sheila. The vast grounds were beautiful and in bloom. We didn’t discover the beehive until the last day!
On our ‘non travelling’ days, we stayed by the pool and the kids had plenty to do.
Kevin and Sheila were the perfect hosts. They were always on hand, if required. They were happy to recommend tourist spots to us when asked and also provided plenty of helpful hints and tips.
We were lucky/privileged enough to be invited By Kevin and Sheila to a local Independence Day celebration at a nearby lake. The night was fantastic with fireworks and other attractions and wine of course!
There are numerous restaurants in the nearby village of St Agnan, which were all of a very high standard and value for money. Our favourite was Auberge.
Kevin is a self-proclaimed ‘King of the Barbeque’, which is a proven and fitting title, as the hot food and Kevin’s homemade garlic bread were all amazing, as was the Local fresh fruit Pavlova Sheila!
All in all, if we return to France, then we will certainly stay at Les Tachats with Kevin and Sheila. Their property is truly amazing, as was their hospitality.
Thank you very much Kevin and Sheila for making our stay so memorable.
Les Tachats is approximately 2 hours from the Atlantic coast, with it's beaches and rolling waves, however we are close to several large lakes which have clean sandy beaches, safe swimming areas with sailing, boating and canoeing facilities.
We are situated 35 km North East of Perigueux, between Limoges and Bergerac airports, both approx 1hr 15mins drive. The channel ports are approx 8 hrs away by car. To enable our guests to make the most of their stay we would recommend the use of a car, however as the village is within walking distance (approx 1 km) and the supermarket 5 mins walk away it is possible to have a very relaxed stay without a car. Airport pick-ups can be arranged for a fee if required.
We are a 5 minute walk from the village supermarket, 10 minutes walk from St Agnan village with bar, bakery, bank/ATM and health centre. We are a 20 minute walk from Hautefort village with pharmacy, 2 restaurants, bakery, butcher, etc. Within reasonable driving distance, one can find Sarlat a wonderful medieval city, Brantome, known as the Venice of the Perigord, attractions such as Lascaux famed for its cave paintings, aqua parks, a dinosaur park, theme parks and much, much more.
Our village is dominated by one of the premier chateau of the area, and is surrounded by a beautiful 40 hectare park and renowned formal garden. Hautefort is also home to a museum of medicine, as well as some highly recommended restaurants. The sister village of St Agnan is also a picturesque village and stages a number of fetes and night markets during the summer season. Within the surrounding area there are many attractions such as canoeing, quad biking, horse riding and fishing for the active visitor. The area is noted for its cuisine, notably duck and foie gras, cepe mushrooms and truffles, and the wines such as Bergerac and Monbazillac. Good walking country and lakes with inland beaches make the Dordogne an appealing family destination.
