Beautiful stone cottage in Hautefort, - tranquil countryside location within walking distance of 2 village centres
Les Tachats is located on the outskirts of the picturesque hilltop village of Hautefort, in the Perigord Noir region of the Dordogne. An area of rolling hills, historic chateaux and picture postcard villages. The cottage and studio were originally a tied "fermette" owned by the chateau. The building has been beautifully restored retaining many of the original features and is set in extensive floral gardens which continue to win prizes in the 'Hautefort in Bloom' gardening competitions and are open for charity once a year. There is a solar heated swimming pool and childrens paddling pool with a generous sun terrace which benefits from a south facing aspect and panoramic views of the valley and the chateau. Les Tachats is ideally situated to visit the many attractions of the Dordogne.
Please note that the gardens will be open to the public for charity on Sunday, September 2nd between 10am and 6pm.

About Sheila Weedon
We are a semi-retired professional couple in our early 50's who moved to France from Hampshire in 2004, to indulge our love of good food, good wine, and a passion for our garden. Having spent many happy family holidays in the Dordogne, our two sons have now grown up and our 7 grandchildren are now also regular visitors. We are friendly people who thoroughly enjoy meeting our visitors and our aim is to ensure that our guests have an excellent stay.
Sheila Weedon purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Sheila Weedon chose Périgueux
We fell in love with the region whilst enjoying a number of family holidays. This was primarily because of the beautiful countryside with its lakes, rivers & forests, the wealth of visitor attractions and the friendly local culture. Our village at Hautefort St Agnan is particularly pretty with a premier chateau, a 17th century hospice museum and a charming old quarter nestled around the chateau. The village also has good amenities including a number of restaurants, shops, bank ATM, doctors, dentist, etc.
What makes this Cottage unique
Staying at Les Tachats offers the benefit of being able to both relax in very quiet, beautiful surroundings, not overlooked by other properties, but also being a few minutes walk away from the village shops and supermarket. One can take a stroll in the morning for the fresh bread & croissants without having to get in the car and also visit the restaurants in the evening & enjoy a glass of wine with a meal without having to drive back afterwards.

Fabulous cottage in great location.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this fabulous gite. It is well equipped, pool is fabulous, play area and outside equipment kept our girls (5 & 7) busy for hours. Location is amazing, it's surrounded in fab countryside yet easy to walk or cycle to both Hautefort, st Agnan. Supermarket 10 mins walk away. Plenty to do in surrounding area - beach at lake rufillac, chateaux galore, kayaking in cherveix Cuba's, great for cycling as roads super quiet, lake coucou's version of wipe out was fun! Finally Sheila and Kevin were perfect hosts, v friendly and helpful. We'd definitely return
A lovely family retreat
We stayed for two weeks at the cottage. This place pretty much ticked all the boxes for us, being a family with two small children. The cottage is surrounded by a huge beautiful garden for the children to explore. The pool area is in good condition (surrounded by beautiful flowers) and the playground is well equipped. The restaurants in the village of Hautefort is within walking distance and the supermarket is only five minutes away.
There is lots of family oriented things to do within driving distance from the cottage. We visited several caves and troglodyte villages, dino parks and a huge sweetwater aquarium during our stay.
We recommend anyone who longs for some peace and quiet to come here and sit under Sheila & Kevins willow trees, watch the sun go down behind the hills with a glass of good wine. It is true magic!
Charming house. Fantastic location
We loved the property and its proximity to other areas. We're disappointed with Internet availability and although we had the property to ourselves, we didn't realize that there was another Gîte downstairs and that we could have been sharing the immediate grounds of the house.
Sheila and Kevin were always there to help, but never intrusive.
The cottage is comfortable and well equipped, the swimming pool maintained to a level of perfection and if you have children there are lots of activities and diversions in the very spacious gardens
A lovely gite, on a nice site, in a super area
Nice period property, on a quiet, but very convenient position on the edge of the village. Easy walking distance to a good supermarket.
Very welcoming hosts, and the property is surprisingly easy to find.
All the amenities you need, in a lovely setting.
Garden and pool are excellent. Sun or shade spots available.
Plenty to see in the area, and restaurants just a short drive away. ie less than 5 minutes.
Chateaus, lakes, caverns to visit, and all easy to get to.
No negatives, only positives, and will definitely consider returning.
We're delighted that these guests enjoyed the ideal location we have here at Les Tachats and delighted that they may too, join the growing band of guests that return to us again and again.
Welcoming hosts, relaxing stay with lots on site to keep young children entertained.
The cottage is cosy and well maintained and a treat to have an ensuite roll-top bath. The children were very excited about the bunk beds! The pool is clean and very welcoming on a hot day. The playground kept the children entertained, giving us a chance to relax. Our hosts, Sheila and Kevin were friendly, helpful, but unobtrusive. We recommend accepting their offer of a BBQ on the Friday evening! The cottage is within walking distance (15-20min) of the centre of Hautefort and, very handily, a 5 min walk from a supermarket. The bakeries in both Hautefort and St Agnan are excellent!
It was lovely to see the children enjoying the swings, slide, sandpit etc, leaving Mum and Dad to relax with a moment to themselves, knowing the children were in a safe and secure environment.
Coast/Beach: Les Tachats is approximately 2 hours from the Atlantic coast, with it's beaches and rolling waves, however we are close to several large lakes which have clean sandy beaches, safe swimming areas with sailing, boating and canoeing facilities. Travel: We are situated 35 km North East of Perigueux, between Limoges and Bergerac airports, both approx 1hr 15mins drive. The channel ports are approx 8 hrs away by car. To enable our guests to make the most of their stay we would recommend the use of a car, however as the village is within walking distance (approx 1 km) and the supermarket 5 mins walk away it is possible to have a very relaxed stay without a car. Airport pick-ups can be arranged for a fee if required. Distances: We are a 5 minute walk from the village supermarket, 10 minutes walk from St Agnan village with bar, bakery, bank/ATM and health centre. We are a 20 minute walk from Hautefort village with pharmacy, 2 restaurants, bakery, butcher, etc. Within reasonable driving distance, one can find Sarlat a wonderful medieval city, Brantome, known as the Venice of the Perigord, attractions such as Lascaux famed for its cave paintings, aqua parks, a dinosaur park, theme parks and much, much more. Further Details: Our village is dominated by one of the premier chateau of the area, and is surrounded by a beautiful 40 hectare park and renowned formal garden. Hautefort is also home to a museum of medicine, as well as some highly recommended restaurants. The sister village of St Agnan is also a picturesque village and stages a number of fetes and night markets during the summer season. Within the surrounding area there are many attractions such as canoeing, quad biking, horse riding and fishing for the active visitor. The area is noted for its cuisine, notably duck and foie gras, cepe mushrooms and truffles, and the wines such as Bergerac and Monbazillac. Good walking country and lakes with inland beaches make the Dordogne an appealing family destination.
