Originally built in 1836, Bois Blanc was a Cognac producer's house and is set, away from busy roads, in the Grand Champagne region of the Cognac vineyards. It is now owned by an English couple who are renovating the main house. There are no immediate neighbours. The cottage is set in its own raised gardens, and the landscaping is being carefully arranged to provide privacy between the cottage and the barn. Neither is overlooked by the owners who live in the main house. The large 12 x 6m L shaped pool has ample space to practice lengths while the deep stepped area allows you to sit and dip your feet in the water while reading a book ... without being splashed! The cottage and barn have been furnished to a very high standard - take a look at the photos and visit our website (click the link for owners website).
WORRIED ABOUT SECURITY? We are quite happy to organise a Viber video link so that you can see that we are actually at the property! We have successfully let our properties for years without problems. Before you arrive we send you a pack telling you all about Bois Blanc and the area - as well as detailed directions of how to find us. You can also call us on the French or English phone numbers to chat about the house.
Please note that photographs of the property are accurate and not misleading but are non contractual.
We are Badger and Mandie Davis both in our 40's with 2 teenage daughters. We have owned Bois Blanc for 13 years building it up from derelict. Badger is an ex Army Major, running a small design agency (specialising in interior design) in France and UK. Mandie runs her own French language educational business in the UK. We have a house in Tunbridge Wells, where our daughters go to school, and we and live between UK and France. We both took 7 years out of the rat race to get Bois Blanc up and running and found it an inspiring and liberating experience which changed us for good! We have invested a lot in Bois Blanc as we believe that holidays are the most important weeks of the year for you. Everything must be high quality and special, and thats what we have aimed to create at Bois Blanc.
Badger Davis purchased this barn in 2001
The 3 L's (location) of house buying guided us to Bois Blanc, as it is literally in the middle of the vineyards of the 'Grand Champagne' Cru of cognac (the most prestigious cru). At the end of its own track with no neighbours, Bois Blanc is a peaceful and beautiful setting. It is also within 45 minutes of the magical South-West Coast, were we spend lots of our time. Summers here are always good and one can use the pool until the end of September. We love the Charente region as its is largely undeveloped and unspoiled. Time has stood still here and you really can relax from the moment you step out of the car and breath the fresh air. There is lots to see and do; the famous islands of Ré and Oleron are easily accessible, as are Bordeaux (for civilisation) and St Emilion (for wine). Finally the cognac here in the Grand Champagne is the best in the world!
Bois Blanc was a literal ruin, but this gave us scope to renovate the traditional stone exteriors and then add completely modern interiors. Thus we have all the beauty of an old house with all modern conveniences. Being designers, we have made the interiors of the Cottage and the Barn interesting, harmonious and inspiring. We used expensive materials and fittings to make Bois Blanc the best in the region and fitting of your holiday expectations. These are individually tailored holiday apartments not Gites! The Gardens and pool have had the same treatment to give Bois Blanc the luxury of a hotel, without the impersonality and the exclusivity of a villa, without the isolation. Our own house...........it's not even half finished yet, as for us, its always guests first!

A beautifully presented, modernised barn in the heart of the Cognac region. Immaculately presented, we had a wonderful week here with many excellent suggestions for activities and excursions from the owner. Badger is a great and enthusiastic host who is there whenever needed, but never intrusive. Looking forward to returning...
Mandie and Badger were brilliant hosts as we booked at one days notice and they could not do enough for us. From the excursion recommendations, the wine choices, the food on arrival so you didn't need to shop, through to the comfy bed, the heated pool and the fantastic music collection. We were spoilt rotten and we will definitely go back.
From the moment we arrived we were blown away with how lovely the barn and its surroundings were. It was incredibly peaceful in an idyllic setting made all the more perfect by the meal Badger had prepared on arrival, this was a fantastic touch.
The barn was spotlessly clean, every single thing you could possibly need to enjoy a long holiday was catered for. The bed was so comfortable, there are many dvd's available to watch and the coffee pods were a welcomed treat.
My husband and i spent two glorious weeks at the barn, our stay was made all the more special by the attention to detail. Nothing was too much trouble for Badger, he ensured we had an awesome time, so much so we are returning a second time in August.
I cannot recommend our stay enough, not only did we have a wonderful time but came away having made a life long friend.
Couldn't believe the quality of the accommodation - made us feel like movie stars! Within an hour of arriving, we were already unwound and relaxed, and will definitely be booking two weeks next year, instead of one. To be honest, I could live there!!!
My mother and I visited Bois Blanc, in June of 2014, we rented the Barn for a week. We were impressed by the grounds the building, and especially the pool. My mother and I really liked the modern facilities in the barn and the Cottage. The Barn was very clean, and tidy, the kitchen was well stocked with glasses and kitchen wares. The beds were very comfortable, and the view out the front of the barn was incredible. The grill on the porch was well used. The grounds were well tended and beautiful. My favorite place at Bois Blanc was the pool. Very well maintained, and a lot of fun. The lounge chairs were very comfortable.
Mr. Davis was an excellent host, his wife was not there while we visited, however Badger(Mr. Davis), gave us a tour around the area, to the Cognac distilleries , and even took us Cherry picking on a friends farm. Overall, my mother and I both enjoyed our visit very much, and will visit again in the future. I recommend Bois Blanc, and the owners Chris and Mandie Davis for a relaxing and education experience. A pleasant change from South Carolina.
In all the years we have taken our holidays in France, we have never come across such a gorgeous place as this. We rented the cottage whilst our friends rented the barn conversion. The place is set in the middle of the vineyards, yet just a short drive away from Cognac. The properties were immaculate and finished to an extremely high standard. Chris and Mandie were there to welcome us and couldn't have been more helpful yet not at all intrusive. We had the pool to ourselves and it really is an idyllic setting. We have already booked our stay for 2016 and would seriously recommend this place to anyone wanting a break away from their hectic lives. Our holiday couldn't have been better this year!

Special interest holidays:
If you have an interest in cognac, we can arrange visits to some of the smaller producers as well as the larger cognac houses. If you are visiting over the November to January period, there would be the opportunity to see the distillation process carried out on traditional stills. Please email us if you want us to arrange this for you or to put together a cognac lover's package including lots of visits and tastings. Have a look at our websites for various packages we offer.
About 50 mins drive from the coast. You can explore the Gironde estuary, the beaches around Royan, La Palmyre and the Cote Sauvage. The Ile de Ré and the Ile d'Oleron are close enough to make a day trip. All the beaches are sandy and it's easy to find secluded spots.
Nearest airports - La Rochelle (1 and a half hour's drive), Angouleme, (1 hour), Bordeaux, (1 hour 10 mins), Poitiers (2 hours). Due to the isolated location a car is quite important, but not essential if you just want to chill out here and not go anywhere. We can arrange pick up from a station or airport (at an additional cost).
Nearest village is 3km with small shop, post office, bar, cafe (it's all in one!). Cognac is the nearest town, about 15km away with restaurants, cafes, bars and shopping . St Emilion 80km, Bordeaux 90km, Angouleme 45km, La Rochelle 65km, Ile d'Re 70km.
Plenty of historic towns to visit within an hour: Cognac, Saintes, Angouleme, Royan, La Rochelle, St Emilion and Bordeaux. Fantastic scenery, stone villages and a sea of cognac vines. Outdoor activities include: canoeing, cycling, walking, swimming. There are miles of off-road tracks through the vines which are great for walking, cycling or riding. The Atlantic coast and the famous islands of Oleron and Ré. Quaint costal villages, huge stretches of sandy, dune backed beaches. Oysters, Seafood, wine, cognac and pineau. Lots of independent Cognac estates to visit. International Blues Passions event (awesome!) in Cognac (2011 Moby, Morcheeba, ZZ Top - 2012 The Cranberries, Sting, Hugh Laurie).
