About the property

Chalet in Le Grand Valtin, Vosges, Lorraine, France - All Year Round Outdoor Family Appeal - Lakes, Wintersports, Walk, Cycle

The house is conveniently located in the NE of France about 6 hours drive from Calais and about 75 minutes from the cities of Nancy, Strasbourg and Basel. Paris is about 4 hours. Closer to home the town of Gerardmer is 10 minutes away and offers everything from shops and restaurants to downhill skiing and a huge lake with facilities for bathing and boating etc. The accommodation itself is spacious, very bright and well equipped. It is warm and cosy in the winter having central heating and a large wood burning stove but cool and airy in the summer. Spread over 3 floors 2 double and 2 family bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and fully equipped fitted kitchen. Spacious games room with safe darts, full size table tennis and junior snooker table. Workshop/drying room with washing machine and large garage - essential when the snow comes! Very private with large gardens and driveway surrounding the property.

About Lee Taylor

I am originally from Liverpool but have lived in Devon for the past 17 years. I share my wonderful life with Cara and our 5 children.

We work very hard but very much enjoy our sport, travel and general outdoor life. Needless to say we love our little bit of France and I think you will too.

Lee Taylor purchased this chalet in 2004

Why Lee Taylor chose St-Die-des-Vosges area

We decided to buy in this location because we wanted somewhere you could ski within easy reach of the UK but which also has all year round appeal. When we discovered the Vosges, the town of Gerardmer with its lovely lake and the valley leading up to the ski station at La Bresse Hohneck we knew that was it ! We settled on Le Grand Valtin because it was 15 mins each way between the two and was peaceful but not too remote.

What makes this chalet unique

The property itself is in a super location. It is private but not off the beaten track and has the huge benefit of being just off the main road through the village which means the snow plough comes right past the gently sloping driveway - a major bonus because you do not need a special vehicle for the winter. The house is comfortable and spacious and easily accommodates groups up to 10 people. It is warm in winter and cool in summer. We have worked hard to improve it since we bought it adding a full fitted kitchen and most recently renewing the top bathroom. We have a games room with full size table tennis table.

From the warm welcome (roaring wood fire and cake) it was a fab first trip for us in to the Vosges. If we return we wouldn't hesitate to stay at le holiday in again. Plenty of room for 4 adults and 4 kids.

Fabulous chalet!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week thank you and loved the house. We have stayed in many gites and houses in France over the years, and yours was the best supplied re facilities and the cosiest by far!

Can't believe we packed so much into one week either - it's such a fantastic area to visit! Will keep your details on file as we will definitely be back! Maybe in the ski season next time?....

excellent !

  • 5 of 5

We had a pleasant stay in a comfortable nice house. We were a group of 9 people, there is enough space. The purpose of the stay was ski holiday : within 15 minutes travel by car we were at the slopes of Le Hochneck La Bresse. Enough space to dry the sky equipment and clothes.

For the non-skiers : more than enough possibilities for nice walks in the woods.

We hope to be able to return there again.

Dommage. Beau potentiel mais tellement sale

  • 2 of 5

A short drive over La Schluct and you will find yourself in the Vineyards of the Alsace where you can sample world renowned wines and discover a richly historical area. Drop in to the lovely town of Munster on the way to smell and taste the cheese! Within 90 mins drive you can be in the Black Forest in Germany or in the far west of Switzerland. In fact the France-German-Swiss border meets at the Euro airport at Basle with frequent flights from the UK
