A perfect holiday venue for us

  • 5 of 5

We could not have wished for more from this wonderful holiday. Looking for somewhere peaceful to relax and do very little we found spacious accommodation, a very comfortable bed, the peace and tranquility on the edge of a sleepy village, a great swimming pool and hosts that could not have been more helpful, did not seek to intrude but became firm friends. There were plenty of places to visit and we were able to reach the coast easily, shop nearby and never felt the need to go out for a meal because Karen's cooking comes with the highest recommendation from us! We have already booked next year!

Owner's Response: Hi John and Alison - we are so pleased you chose us, as we couldn't have wished for better guests. We certainly put the world to rights on those warm balmy evenings, whilst supping the local rose. Our trip in the minibus to stock up with said wine was nearly not fruitful; however, as they opened up the "closed" Cave especially for us (as only the french would do!), we were well equipped to deal with any drought!! There is indeed nothing like the feeling of knowing that your guests are returning home relaxed and unstressed, having been warmed by the sun, fed well and removed far from their everyday lives. We too feel that our location here provides the perfect backdrop to leave all your worries at the door and get on with enjoying your holiday, including being as busy or chilled as you wish. We knew that you had a lot pinned on this holiday due to previous holidays not quite living up to your expectations and we are therefore thrilled that you've booked again already for next year. Roll on Summer 2014. Also, thank you for your compliments regarding our food - it's a pleasure to have cooked for you during your break and I've even noted your likes and dislikes for next time (will be avoiding avacados hehe). Take care of each other and see you next August. With our best regards. Karen & Jon

Lovely

  • 5 of 5

A fully relaxing week was spent at Les Hirondelles. Our hosts Jon & Karen were wonderful and very helpful. The Gite was clean and tidy and typical of a french house. The pool was great as the weather was hot.Evening meal on arrival was delicious and well cooked. Just what you need after a long drive. The area around the Vendee is full of wonderful places/villages to explore and the week was not long enough. There are several english owned/run restaurants in the surrounding villages which were extremely good. We will be back.

Owner's Response: Hi Alan and Jane - Thank you so much for your complimentary and thoughtful review. We try to be as helpful as possible when our guests ask, at the same time affording them their privacy to enjoy their space and surroundings. As you were enjoying a belated honeymoon, it was important to us to be mindful of your privacy, at the same time realizing that this was your first visit to this part of France, and although we provide an extensive information pack, there is sometimes nothing like a bit of first-hand local knowledge. The presentation and cleanliness of our accommodation and grounds is of great importance to us, and we spend time paying attention to every detail including freshly laundered linen and flowers, so thank you for noting this. Cooking for our guests is always a pleasure, and we're so pleased you enjoyed your meal on arrival. As you say, the Vendee is packed with places to visit with something for everybody, families, couples, retirees and maybe on your next visit you can explore some of those you left undiscovered this year! We'd love to welcome you back again and thank you once more for your lovely review. We hope to see you in 2014 (maybe for two weeks this time?!) Very best wishes Karen & Jon
