Hi - we are Paul and Marian, John and Julie - neighbours in Lancashire, travel companions and joint owners of Chalet Pelerin. We first skied together in 2003 at a time when we were thinking about buying a holiday home and the idea of a ski chalet emerged over the next year. We settled in 2005 on the beautiful Abondance valley and the magnificent Portes du Soleil and moved in on 6 February 2006. We wanted to create a large ski chalet for rental that was also a home from home - and we think we've made a pretty decent job of it. We visit as often as we can in groups large and small to ski, walk, cycle, swim and recharge the batteries in this most peaceful, gorgeous and relaxing setting. And practice our rubbish French.
Paul and Marian, John and Julie purchased this chalet in 2005
Abondance is a proper farming village with a lovely square which functions all year round unlike some ski areas which are ghost towns out of season. It's easy to reach from Geneva and is only 30 mins from Evian and Thonon on the lake. The Sunday market is terrific. The skiing area is vast, varied (from the very quiet to the very busy), reliable and has benefitted from millions of euros in investment. Traditional alpine farming skills are still in evidence and whilst you can't move for tourists in many alpine areas in the summer these beautiful mountains can virtually be all yours. The autumn colours are dazzling.
The chalet is equipped with all the comforts of home to a very high standard - including a fully stocked kitchen (it is very rare that we are asked for something that is not provided), free wifi, a 40 inch TV (and 2 smaller ones) and a large selection of games, music and DVDs. We offer a very personal approach to all our clients, including flexible booking dates, to ensure you have all you need well in advance and an excellent chalet manager to look after any problems during your stay. We provide a comprehensive info pack in advance and in the chalet and guidance on how to get the best of the facilities - but very few rules. We like to think that if we look after our guests they will look after our home.
A recent guest commented that they had never stayed in the same place twice before staying at ours.

A party of 6 adults & 6 kids stayed here over half term. Fabulous chalet. Plenty of good skiing available either 5 minutes down the road, or up to half an hour drive away, all with free parking. We all agreed that the kitchen is the best stocked we have ever had, the only thing missing was a garlic press! Lots of crockery & cutlery, & plenty of pans, including several big ones which are the ones we usually miss the most. The beds were all comfortable, with good quality bedding & towels. The chalet was clean & tidy when we arrived, & the information sent by the hosts was very comprehensive, including the most detailed driving instructions ever & even where to stop at a supermarket on our way there. The only thing that would have made it truly perfect would have been a hot tub - for next year please?!
Immediately felt at home in this wonderful chalet, the furnishings and finish of the chalet was superb with all you could possibly need in the kitchen cupboards. Would recommend this chalet very highly but you do really need a car as the local ski buses are not that frequent, but that does mean that you can explore properly this stunning area. Great place and well worth a visit
We stayed here as a family holiday in the Alps. We had a great time with lots to do both in France and Switzerland just over the mountains. Lots of space and very high standard of accomodation
Lovely, picturesque chalet. Extremely clean - all amenities available. Fantastic weather - sunshine only added to a lovely holiday. We particularly liked the next village up the hill (Chatel) lovely restaurants for an evening meal watching the sun set. We followed the recommendations from the owner regarding the drive to the Chalet - we stocked up at Carrefour which was a good idea. Lovely walk to Abdondance village centre on a sunny day. Would certainly recommend staying here to anyone. Can only think it is even better in the winter months if you are a skier. Thank you for a lovely holiday.
Our family of six as well as my parents who were visiting from Australia stayed at Chalet Pelerin for four days over Christmas 2016. Communication with Paul was excellent and included very detailed notes on the Chalet and surrounding areas which was invaluable. We were delighted with the chalet - the living area was spacious and well furnished, the kitchen was very well equipped and included some basic supplies which were useful, the beds were comfortable and the duvets super warm and we all enjoyed the fireplace and large collection of DVDs. Despite not a lot of snow we enjoyed a day trip to Chalet, walks into Abondance and a day skiing in Portes du Soleil. We were also delighted with the Buche de Noel we ordered from the Abondance patisserie and enjoyed dinner on Christmas eve at La Chappelle d'Abondance hotel-ensoleille. Thanks again to Paul and Chalet Pelerin for helping to make our last European Christmas for a while a memorable one!
