The village is surrounded by vineyards plus all the amenities one would expect including bakeries, doctors, dentist, pharmacy, post office and 2 of the regions top restaurants. The villa boasts three sided garden with sun and shade throughout the day. Covered patio area with sliding patio doors, with garden furniture and built in BBQ leads to alfresco dining throughout the year. About Sandra

Steven and I bought this property in 2001. We had visited Portiragnes Plage from 2000 on four different occasions before this and fell in love with the area. We have spent every free moment here since! We hope to eventually retire here.

The reason we like Portiragnes Plage is that is a quiet relaxed environment with beautiful natural beaches, walks and the canal within close distance. We normally park the car for the holiday and just use the bikes to get around.

Often we do want to go further afield and we then go exploring. There is lots to do at all times of the year. You can go inland to the mountains which is cooler in summer. You can go to the cities of Narbonne, Perpignan, Carcassonne, Beziers and Montpellier - all within an hour for shopping. We just love it!

Sandra purchased this villa in 2002

Why Sandra chose Beziers area

This is a relaxing place with no high rise and is a family centred resort. Lots of local French people own holiday villas here. The Langue D'Oc region supplies wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables throughout each season. The local producers are so proud of their fresh food. Low prices throughout the year for very high quality produce. The property is beside a blue flag beach (10 years of blue flags continued in 2013). There are no bulldozers, no high rise and almost no new building development. It is beside the Canal du Midi which is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Portiragnes Plage is a very special place and a wonderful area to relax and enjoy nature.

What makes this villa unique

You will enjoy Portiragnes Plage if you are looking for a good rest, lots of sunshine, sandy beaches, safe and clean Mediterranean Sea for swimming, good restaurants, Excellent local food and wine and a relaxed atmosphere. Yet, there is lots to do for the family from cycling, tennis, visiting local historical sites, local water park, local funfairs, horse riding, boating, football and so many other activities nearby.

This property offers a large house with a garden on three sides. This gives extra privacy and also means you can enjoy sun or shade all day long. It is the largest house on the estate and is overlooking the nature reserve. The garden is safe for children and off the main thoroughfare with no cars passing by.

The property has two large bathrooms - one with full size bath.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: The property is gated and safe for children from traffic. The property is semi detached at the end of a terrace. It has a wide patio right around all three sides and is very private yet very close to all amenities. The garden is secluded and private. It is possible to have Sun and Shade all day as the Property is East Facing for morning sunshine at the rear and West for midday - evening sunshine. There is a North facing patio to the side for all day shade (if needed). This makes it a very easy to relax in property. Outside: The Garden is quite mature now as we planted most of the garden over 14 years ago. There is a fig tree which ripens from the end of July. We planted two lemon trees but await lemons(!) There are herbs growing in the garden (bay, thyme, mint and rosemary) which are sometimes used in cooking, salads and drinks. Sun beds, dining tables and chairs, front west facing patio for evening sun. Back east facing patio for morning sun(or avoid the sun in opposite direction!). BBQ is a built in one with a table for preparing the goods. There is an outside shower for use when you come back from the pool or just to cool off when you are sunbathing at home. There is an outside sink we use for preparing fish etc. The Pool is a shared pool on the development. Private gated garden front and back garden with keys to lock if required. There are numerous shrubs and hedging which give privacy. Utility Room: Iron, ironing board, vacuum cleaner, 2 hairdryer, hair straighteners and curling tongs.. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning/towels and linen supplied for 75 euro. Plenty of towels for your use are provided. Other: Suitable for off-season with heaters in every room and an oil heater. Reversible Air conditioning. Outdoor covered patio areas and conservatory allows alfresco dining. 2 Outdoor seating areas with sun Loungers. Free WIFI and local phone calls.

Great family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Clean relaxing home. Great location walking distance to beach, restaurants and bakery. The bicycles provided enable you to enjoy the nature reserve to spot flamingos and fun rides along the canal to visit BeIers and Vias. Great place to enjoy the sun, relax and spend time with your family. It was fun to visit Pezenas as the Tour de France went by.

This was our first visit to Portiragnes Plage although we have been to the South of France numerous times. It's excellent if you want to use Bezier airport. Portiragnes Plage is wonderfully flat which is excellent for scooting, cycling, walking and mobility scooters. At this time of the season it is a quiet and chilled arena in which to holiday, however the there is still enough fun filled activities for children and adults who wish to release their 'inner child' e.g. Aqualand and the inflatable park. It is within easy reach of Cap D'Agde where there are lots of other fun filled exciting family orientated facilities. Clos de Soccorro is an enclosed and safe environment for children. The villa is one of the largest in the gated community. It's very private and quiet. All equipment inside and outside the villa is in very good condition. It's very well maintained. One of our family members is disabled and used her 'walker' and mobility scooter with ease. Great ice cream bars. The beach is large and clean. The sea is on some days adventurous and on others calm. Beach restaurant is excellent but wouldn't recommend the cuttle fish because it is tasteless. The swordfish is yummy.

A home from home.

Great place for a family holiday

  • 4 of 5

This was our second visit to the property and Potiragnes Plage and we booked our 3rd as soon as possible after our return. We are a family with 3 children 10, 8 & 1.5 years old. The house is the most well equipped and spacious compared to anything else we have stayed in over a decade of holidaying in France. No dodgy Gite DIY here😁 - 3 big bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, air con to all bedrooms, wi if, inside and outside dining opportunities, good sized living kitchen, large American style fridge freezer, washing machine etc etc. the ability to use the bikes to ride down to the bakery every morning was great. Walking distance of the town square restaurants meant everyone could enjoy a glass or two with a short walk home in the evening. The beach is easily walkable but with the toddler and all the consequent gear we tended to drive the few minutes and use the free beach car park. The onsite pool was enjoyed by the kids and parents alike for an hour or two at a time but it's not a sit around it all day Brits abroad package holiday job as no sun loungers for hire etc. Clos du Sicorro feels to us like a very safe environment in a very low density resort which we absolutely love.

A lovely peaceful and lazy week in the sun

  • 4 of 5

It was the sound that we loved - the lack of road noise combined with the tweeting of birds and the occasional horse whimper. But mostly just peace and quiet.....

The house was clean and reasonably well equipped and the welcome wine and beer in the fridge much appreciated. Following the advice given we very much enjoyed the 2euro per litre rose bought in the village, drinks/lunch at Les Voiles on the beach and the occasional foray out to les Neuf Ecluses at Beziers, Agde and the Canal du Midi.

The property is a very short distance from the airport, there are plentiful supermarkets locally and you can get all basics in Portiranges Plage to which you can walk. The village itself is very much a place for family holidays and neither it nor the housing are particularly attractive.

Perfect multi-generational holiday

  • 5 of 5

We shared this holiday home with our son and his family, including 2 year-old twins. The downstairs bedroom was perfect for grandparents, and gave us a "quiet zone" to retreat into. In addition, grandpa has muscular dystrophy, and was able to use the downstairs bathroom.

The outdoor area is secure and ideal for small children. Although the house is on a "development", there was little noise from neighbours, and being on the end we could see across the fields, and hear birdsong.

It is easy to walk to the beach, and also to the small village to pick up supplies, including excellent rose!

The house is clearly a much-loved home, and is very well-equipped, and the owner very willing to answer queries.

My only advice would be to arrive in daylight for the first time. Under pressure from small children, we stopped off for food en route, and had to sort out keys in the dark.

We would like to go again!

Further Details:

For a more active holiday there is a safe pathway for cycling on the Canal du Midi to other villages. Walkers can take walks in the nature reserve beside the property or go birdwatching. Walks along the beautiful sandy beaches and through the nature reserve or along the canal. Very suitable for off season holidays as the property has heating. Lots of beautiful restaurants within 5-10 mins walking distance of the property. There are also outdoor markets almost everyday in Jun-Sep, supermarkets and cash machines.

Drop into Michelle in Le Moka bar for a gossip or go next door to the cave to buy some decent "St.Chinian" local vino for less than €2 per litre! The old Mediterranean town of Bezier is the nearest city. It has a magnificent cathedral, the old bull ring (still staging bullfights if that’s your thing), an indoor food market every day where you can buy literally everything winter and summer. It also hosts a beautiful flower market on Fridays and the very popular Annual Ferria in August. The ‘Nine Locks at Fonseranne’ (Neuf Ecluse a Fonseranne) on the Canal du Midi, is on the west side of Bezier and is an engineering marvel. It consists of a series of locks over a relatively short distance taking the Canal and its boats up a steep hill - it is world-renowned and well worth a visit. Pezenas is another picturesque town with cobbled streets and ancient buildings just outside Bezier and to the North-East. A relaxing stroll through its narrow cobbled streets, which are filled with traditional arts and crafts, painting and sculptures, is recommended. Roquebrun too!

Agde/Cap d’Agde/Sete: These towns are a short drive away and are well worth a visit. Cap d’Agde has Aqualand (a water theme park with several hair raising rides) and can easily occupy a whole day. Toonsland is a great little amusement park for the under 9s.
