Built in the 1980s to a unique design, the large white house stands in its own grounds, accessed by a gated drive. The grounds extend to over an acre, with ample parking space, lawns and landscaped gardens. The feeling of being in a tropical oasis is created by the exotic garden, containing water features and rare trees and plants. Colourful flowers and perfumed blossoms provide a feast for the senses, just the place to relax with a good book and a long drink. The large pool has a modern filtration/chlorination system, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness. A wide thatched patio provides a shaded area with seating for up to 20 guests, with barbecue close by. There is also a fridge to keep drinks, fruit etc. cold. The villa is in a quiet area just outside the village. There are views of the east coast, and the nearest beach is at Kalithea (5 mins drive.) Rhodes town is 15 mins, and the airport 20 mins drive away. An ideal location for a special holiday or celebration.
We are Lorna and Tsam, a husband and wife team. I am British, originally from Cheshire, Tsam (Tsambikos) is Greek, originally from Lindos. We have been together for over 30 years - here's one holiday romance that did last!
We have two grown up children, and one grandchild.
We are very fortunate to be able to spend summer on this lovely island, where we have our own business. We return to the UK in winter, to spend time with our family and friends there, and they come out to visit whenever they can.
We share our home with a lively young dog called Patsa, and a handsome German Shepherd called Timber.
We enjoy exploring the island when we have time - even after 30 years we are still discovering new places.
Lorna Papaphilippou purchased this villa in 1980
We bought this piece of land to build our dream home on. We looked at a lot of plots for sale, but came back to this one - one of the first we looked at. It just felt right.
We built Villa Sutherlea to be our family home. It was quite a long project, because in those days there were no loans for building, so we had to save a bit then build a bit! In the meantime, the children persuaded us that we needed a pool as well, so work went on even longer!
By the time the house was complete, the children had grown up and moved on, so we decided to offer it for rent to holidaymakers. We re-designed the interior to make maximum use of space, and had the garden landscaped. Villa Sutherlea provides the perfect venue for family holidays, reunions and celebrations - a big house with a big heart.
Villa Sutherlea is a big house, with a big pool and a big garden. It will accommodate up to 14 people, with space to spare. It will appeal especially to extended families - grandparents, parents and children. Children love the pool, which is fun to splash around in, but long enough to do serious lengths as well. We also welcome groups of friends, who may live far away, and want a place to meet up together. The house is friendly, not formal - the warm climate is enjoyed as much as possible, with the pool, patio, BBQ and gardens being well used. The location is ideal for visiting many of the islands attractions. The coast is only a few minutes drive away, and the fascinating Old Town of Rhodes only a few kms away.
'Thank you so much for a really wonderful vacation, wedding and honeymoon! Your villa was exactly what we hoped it would be, and we will have nice memories from Rhodes for the rest of our lives!' - Mr & Mrs N.K.
'Spotlessly clean, beautiful gardens and fabulous pool...' Mr B.C.
'Having stayed in many villas this was certainly the best....' Mr & Mrs T.G.
'A wonderful stay in an idyllic spot - quite a garden of Eden.' Mr. M D
'Wow -What a villa! It really surpassed all of our expectations.' Group of friends from Kent, UK
'I had the best holiday ever!' Daniel, aged 6.
A lovely time has been had by all, with an age range of 2 to 82! Yes, and we all went in the pool! Brown family, October 2012
This is the second time we have stayed at this beautiful villa. Wish we could have stayed longer. The villa is very clean with everything you need - a home from home. The rooms were large and spacious and the air con was very effective.
The owners Tsam and Lorna are really friendly and helpful (nothing is too much trouble) and their dog Timber was a big hit with the children.
The main kitchen is outside. This is the communal area where you have two large tables comfortably seating 10 easily. it consists of a very large industrial sized fridge, dishwasher ,2 ring stove top, microwave, kettle, coffee machine and all the pots and pans you will need. There is no oven in this area but there are ovens in 2 of the roomsif you need to use one ( we cooked chicken etc ).There is a lovely large BBQ behind the eating area.
The pool was just perfect... the area is quiet, so relaxing.
Thank you Tsam and Lorna for a wonderful holiday ( accident free this year lol). We will hopefully be back again to this little paradise.<3
We had a lovely time staying at Lorna and Tsam's villa. The outside kitchen with pool was perfect for the children and provided us all with a great hang out spot. The rooms were large and spacious and the air con was very effective. The village is quiet so a car is needed to explore the beaches and to visit other places e.g. Lindos and Rhodes Town. It was really useful having Lorna and Tsam nearby for times when we forgot our key to get into the grounds and to ask them about places to visit. They were always really helpful and made our holiday really pleasurable.
We used this villa for a multi-family, multi-generation stay. Three families with 3,5,7 and 16 year old children plus 6 adults.
The accommodation is split into an annex sleeps usually 2 (option for sofa bed). Has family bathroom and was perfect for grandparents. Also has kitchenette and the washing machine
Main house is then broken in 3 zones. Ground floor double bedroom (huge) with shower room and two large sofas. Has kitchenette
Mezzanine has three bedrooms - single, twin and double plus a seating area and shared family bathroom. There is air con to serve the area and a door to close it off.
Top floor a double bed with family bathroom and kitchenette. Again the potential to have an occasional bed. Great views to the sea.
The main kitchen is in fact outside. This is the communal area where you have two large tables comfortably seating 10 but can take more. A very large industrial sized fridge! Freezer and dishwasher are here too plus two ring stove and the bbq.
Swimming pool 15m with amazing grounds.
Owners Tsam and Lorna are discreetly onsite in a villa on the corner of the plot which cannot be seen. They are a wonderful couple who are incredibly helpful.
You need a car to get the most out of staying here. You are 10 mins to Kalithea, 15 to Rhodes old town and no more than 20 mins to the airport.
This villa is very well maintained and you really couldn't ask for more. Restaurants are 10-20 min walking depending where you want to go to. The village Koskinou is lovely and quaint and unspoilt.
Supermarkets (of which there are several) are no more than 5 mins by car. Small ones can be reached on foot within the village (10 min walk).
Beaches - falaraki is the nicest one and is10 mins. Kalithea spa is close by too And would recommend. Water park 10 mins.
Thank you Tsam and Lorna for our most enjoyable and relaxing time here. You really looked after us during our stay.
Look no further, this villa is awesome. Our family came together from across the globe in preparation for our wedding in Lindos. The villa offered everything we needed, Lorna and Tsam couldn't have been more helpful in the run up to our arrival and during our stay.
Thank you Lorna and Tsam, hope to see you again soon!
Car hire is required for your stay, but a local company recommended by Lorna and Tsam drop the car off at the villa - bonus!
Where do I start. This was a special holiday for all of our family, 8 adults (ages 32-63), 6 grandchildren(1yr-13yrs). The villa was everything , if not more than we expected. Lovey rooms, beautiful grounds/gardens and outstanding pool. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spotless , the outside eating area perfect for family eating and socializing. and a lovely friendly resident dog ,Timmber, who the children loved. The area is very quiet, (except for the frogs. crickets etc. which the grandchildren loved to find using torches on an evening). We did hire a vehicle for our stay, to visit Rhodes town, Kolymbia, Falaraki etc. and for getting the grocery shopping. Plenty supermarkets 5-10 mins away with very good choice of food. There is a fantastic traditional Greek restaurant in the village, a short walk away called ELIA & KAPARI ,the food was unbelievable , and Fortae the owner ( sorry not sure how his name is spelt) was very friendly. Lorna and Tsam the owners were amazing. Unfortunately we had a car accident while staying in Rhodes. I cannot thank Lorna and Tsam enough for all their help , we don't know what we would have done without them. From coming to the hospital , looking after some of the grandchildren, and making numerous phone calls... they were stars....thank you both so much for your kindness. A Fantastic holiday .. x
This holiday rated one of the best holidays I have had. It was extremely relaxing and the owners made you feel like VIP's. The added bonus for our party was having two resident dogs on site. If you are a dog lover these two are something else! They are extremely friendly and worth the doggie treats we bought for them.
The villa itself is like a maze, it opens up on many floors and if the party was a bigger one than ours, you were still guaranteed your privacy. The pool is plenty big enough and the grounds are extremely well kept. It's in a good position to travel around Rhodes in a car and the private parking is more than ample. The cleanliness of the villa was second to none and the surrounding area was extremely tranquil. In fact it was so good I would rather keep this place a secret so that I wouldn't be fighting with the competition when I come to book it next time around, but that would just be selfish wouldn't it?
Special interest holidays:
The villa is available for parties and celebrations, corporate hospitality events, etc. The gardens make a lovely setting for wedding photos.
Rhodes offers all types of beaches - sandy, pebbly, rocky. Some are very busy, with water sports and activities, some are quiet and secluded. There are 5 within easy reach of the villa - about 5 minutes by car.
Rhodes is served by Diagoras Airport, 20 mins drive from the villa. There are daily flights from Athens, and scheduled and chartered flights from many major cities in summer. There are regular ferry services to Rhodes port from Athens, and boat trips to Turkey and neighbouring islands. The port is 15 mins drive from the villa. Car hire is recommended, although it is possible to get around using taxis or local bus.
Koskinou village is 10 minutes walk away. Rhodes Old Town is 15 mins by car, New Town about the same. The water park, said to be one of the biggest in Europe, is 10 mins by car. Picturesque Lindos village is 45 mins by car. The Valley of Butterflies is about 45 mins, and Ancient Kamiros about 1 hour by car. Filerimos (large cross on the hill) is 30 mins, and Seven Springs 45 mins. Prassonisi, surfers challenge, is right on the southern tip of the island - 2 hours away.
There are 5 large supermarkets within 5 mins drive of the villa, but these are closed on Sundays. Some have cash machines. There are local shops in the village, e.g. butcher, grocer, baker and 3 or 4 good restaurants. Rhodes town is very cosmopolitan with many shops, banks, bars and clubs, restaurants and a casino. Shops in tourist resorts are open everyday during summer, including Sunday. Various boat trips can be taken from Rhodes harbour - visit neighbouring islands or try scuba diving, fishing, glass bottom boat trip.
The Valley of Butterflies is said to be one of the wonders of the modern world - thousands of tiger moths gather there in July/August.
Rhodes has welcomed tourists from all over the world for many years, so most of the locals speak English, and many speak several languages - so you don't have to learn Greek, although it might be fun to try a few words - maybe start with "Yiamas!" - Cheers!
