According to Ralph Waldo Emmerson, "Life is a journey, not a destination". A holiday, however, is all about the destination. We have made our home here for the last 8 years and really take pleasure in where we live and having the opportunity to share it with others. The life here is simple, peaceful and uncomplicated. Join us and share the wonderful lifestyle and culture of Brittany.
Situated in the beautiful Blavet Valley, La Metairie was originally a cider farm. Set in lovely landscaped grounds of over 3 acres with a small lake and woodlands leading down to a private river, the emphasis here is on peace and tranquillity and is the ideal place to relax and unwind.
With the owners on site we are always on hand to help or offer suggestions on places to visit.
Each apartment is individual and both are tastefully decorated in a unique style. All linen, heating, gas and electricity is included in the price of your holiday. We also offer a breakfast service which has proved an enormous success with our guests and also a laundry service if needed.
Within the grounds there are numerous areas for dining and relaxing with plentiful garden furniture and barbeque equipment. Books, games, CDs and DVDs are also available.
For full information on all our services please see our website www.gite42.com or you can telephone us at any time if you prefer to speak to a real person!
The town of Melrand is a few minutes by car and has an excellent restaurant as well as small local shops, bars, takeaway pizza, pharmacy and post office. The historic town of Pontivy is approximately 12kms. The Blavet River is practically on our doorstep and has miles of paths which are ideal for keen walkers or cyclists. Other recreational facilities such as golf, fishing and horse-riding are all close at hand.
The beaches of the Gulf of Morbihan are within easy driving distance including Kerfanny Les Pins, Trinte Sur Mer and Lamor Plage. There are also lovely beaches at Carnac where you will also find the famous megaliths.
Also close by is the majestic Abbey of Bon Repos, the grand lake at Lac de Guerledan, the historic working village of Poul Fetan, the fortified towns and cities of Josselin, Vannes and Dinan as well as quaint historic villages and towns such as Rochefort en Terre or even a "Cornish Style" fishing port at Doelan. You'll never be short of somewhere to visit or something to do!
Gites are ideal for 1 or 2 couples each with their own dedicated accommodation. Discounts available for 2 sets of couples or simply friends travelling together. If you are travelling in a group early booking is strongly recommended to ensure that both gites are available.
We have had quite a few situations whereby guests arrive to find that they have friends in the area wanting accommodation which we have been able to help with. This has meant that friends can spend quality time together in the same location. Please let us know how we can help

We are a couple who have travelled the world extensively but have finally made our home in the beautiful Brittany countryside. From our combined travels, taking in over 100 countries, we understand fully the meaning of customer service and strive to provide our guests with the best possible experience of life in this wonderful region.
Sally Greenway purchased this cottage in 2007
The countryside is very beautiful and unspoilt with very little traffic. The small towns and villages are beautifully kept and there is no litter or vandalism. The location of our house is, we feel, ideal as we are in a very small hamlet of 5 houses, well away from the road which makes it very safe for our pets yet we have a few neighbours making it a nice little community. La Metairie was originally a cider farm and the various houses all used to form part of the complex with our house being the last to be used as the farmhouse and having the most land. Our local town of Melrand is a few minutes drive away and has a superb restaurant and useful small shops. La Metairie is also ideally positioned for exploring the many larger towns of south Brittany and the coast.
Please visit our website: www.gite42.com for 'pay now' facilities and also special offers which are not listed on this site.
It is a relatively short drive to the coast - about 45kms and the beautiful historic towns of Vannes and Josselin are easily reached. Our properties are exclusively for adults and couples but also suitable for single travellers. There is always someone on hand for help and advice and we try to ensure that our guests want for nothing!

"Thanks for a lovely 2 weeks at your charming gite. Loved your gites and the surrounding grounds. Thanks also for your hospitality, loved being greeted by flowers, wine and chocolates! Also appreciated being able to bring the two dogs. Good luck - would love a return though already planning our own property!"

Molly and I stayed in the Coach House at La Metairie for a week in July 2016.
The drive is a leisurely couple of hours from Roscoff if you’ve got a sat nav that does what it is supposed to do(but still buy a map)
The SatNav took us, eventually, to the road ends at La Metairie. Its a bit further on a reasonable road, past the farm house and up to the main gate.
A mixture of moggies inhabit the grounds and are quite friendly but somewhat aloof.
The grounds are very impressive ,well stocked with magnificent ,giant trees set amongst a beautiful tidy meadow.Bird song is a constant musical background.
Further into the trees and down into the valley there is a cool, tinkly stream and its so quiet, calm and peaceful, with a wooden seat, where you can spend some time just to sit and enjoy being there.
The Coach House is comfortable with enough kitchen equipment to enable preparations for simple meals. Sitting outside for breakfast, lunch and dinner is one of the things we look forward to on holiday and La Metairie provides a beautiful setting for this.
Sally and Irvine were exceptionally helpful, especially when I needed a Dr for a chest infection. Sally organised an appointment with her English speaking Dr. The surgery is in Baud,20 mins drive away.
The hens and ducks provided fresh eggs with the breakfast supplied by Sally.
Altogether a lovely, peaceful place for a French Vacance
We have just returned from a lovely holiday in Brittany, stopping for 1 night each way on our journey from Calais and spending five days in The Coach House. It is a beatuful gite, so peaceful and perfectly placed to explore the region. Sally and Irvin ensured everything ran smoothly for us and in return we managed to prevent our little dog from chasing the chickens for the whole five days. We had a great holiday, even the weather was kind to us in October, and we would happily return.
This was our second visit to La Metairie and we loved it even more.
Sally and Irvin made us really welcome . The Gallery was beautifully furnished and comfortable. We loved the little balcony and enjoyed eating our breakfast there and watching the hens. Everything was perfect(apart from the weather!). The fresh eggs, coffee, home made jam and wine were very much appreciated. Wish we had thought to order the welcome pack when we booked as it seemed very good value.
The grounds are beautiful and very peaceful. it was a shame that the bad weather stopped us making more use of them. It was lovely to stroll down to the stream in the evening.
There are many beautiful places to visit from the gite. We especially enjoyed cycling along the towpath of the Nantes Brest Canal , visiting St Nicholas and
following the art in the chapel trail. There are still many left that we have yet to see and are sure we will be back again before too long.(We will try not to bring the rain with us next time!)
Linda & John
Stayed in The Gallery, just perfect, the grounds amazing, if peace and beauty is what you want here it is !
Sally and Irvin perfect hosts, there when you need them with superb local and general information, as a result we will be going back, and if all falls into plan we will be spending a LOT more time in the wonderful surrounding area !
PS, the eggs and Jam and Chutney are too good !!
A little gem in the breton countryside, within easy reach of the areas finest tourist attractions. With the owner on site to help and advise everything runs smoothly, can,t wait to return for another gastronomic tour.
We had a very enjoyable stay at Sally's Gite near Melrand. A beautifully appointed gite in lovely grounds. Our hosts were so welcoming and the brunch package well worth having. Sally's home made jams and chutneys were scrumptious. A lovely rural spot with freshly laid eggs each day made this a wonderful place to relax. An excellent area for walks and visiting surrounding medieval towns, markets and villages. Couldn't have wished for better! Thank you Sally & Irvin.
