We are a professional couple with 3 children aged 29, 27 and 25 years old. We love the villa almost as much as our own home and as such, have furnished it to a very high standard. We all love sport, walking and eating out so this resort is perfect for all our needs. It is very important to us that our guests/clients enjoy the villa and we have received extremely positive feedback.

Why John Whittington chose Vila Do Bispo region

This resort is built in the middle of a National Park and is close to the magnificent surfing beaches on the west coat yet is also within easy reach of the softer sandy beaches on the south coast. We love the relaxed Portuguese way of life and really enjoy eating out at one of the local fishing ports. We enjoy all the sporting and recreational facilities at this resort and the restaurants are all excellent value. This area is one of the best kept secrets in Europe and we are delighted that we decided to buy a villa here.

What makes this villa unique

The villa has its own pool and jacuzzi which are very private and sheltered. The golf course on the resort is beautifully laid out and is kept in excellent condition. All our guests are entitled to a reduction in green fees.

Firstly, thank-you. The villa was fantastic. The pool. gardens, furnishings, location all were excellent. Carmo was great. She met us at Reception as agreed, the starter pack shopping was in the house and if we had questions or concerns she actioned immediately.

The gardeners and pool man were great. Just got on with the jobs and allowed us to enjoy the villa.

The surrounding area is lovely. We had a number of beach days at Martinhal as well as visits to Lagos, Salema and Sagres.

We can also highly recommend the Samrat Indian Restaurant in Budens.

Relaxing holiday in stunning villa

Four of us stayed for a week before my baby was due for a relaxing break in the sun. The villa was clean and had everything we could want and we spent a lot of time on sun loungers or in the pool which was quiet and secluded. Local restaurants in Salema had superb sea food and the Intermarche only minutes away kept us stocked for the BBQ and wine evenings. Highly recommend this villa.

Amazing Villa, Stunning location, real family holi

From the moment we contacted John to arrange the booking we received nothing but excellent advice, support and help in arranging what was to turn out to be one of the best holidays we have ever had.

The Villa itself is in a perfect location with uninterrupted views of stunning landscapes. The cleanliness and overall feel of the villa was second to none, Carmo the housekeeper had even got us in some food and tea as we were arriving late.

The pool was fabulous and we loved finding the secret cupboard with all the inflatables - great fun had and were an fabulous addition to our Pool Olympics family tournament.

The resort was superb, the restaurants - particularly Vincencino's were lovely, very friendly and food was amazing.

It's a fabulous location to visit nearby Salema - brilliant beach and great wave jumping (even if the current is a little strong!), gorgeous little shops selling traditional Portuguese wares but make sure you book for restaurants there!

It's no more than a 45 minute drive to a fab water-park - Slide and Splash and a full day out with the family.

The Monchique mountain visit was out of this world - about an hour drive and lots of incredible views as you drive through the mountain range.

With so much to do in the area the two weeks were almost not enough as we interspersed visits with relaxing days at the villa in the incredible sunshine.

You definitely need a car for this holiday to make the most of where you are.

Overall 5 stars isn't enough to express what a fabulous time we had, what an incredible villa this is and how lovely John is. We would definitely recommend and have done to our friends and family. We'll see you soon John as we will definitely be back.

Perfect villa

Perfect holiday in a beautiful villa.

Stayed here with friends and enjoyed every moment.

The Villa is very well maintained with everything you could possibly need. The wifi signal was very good.

We were given lots of useful information before we travelled and there was a comprehensive file in the villa too.

We used quite afew of the restaurant recommendations and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at The Burgau beach bar.

Evenings sitting out on the terrace having a BBQ was very relaxing and the local Intermarche in Budens had a good selection of fresh food.

There are some excellent beaches only a short drive away.

We would love to come back very soon!!

Perfect Villa in great location

We could not fault the Villa it was spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and had a homely feel with everything you could wish for. Wonderful pool, great sun loungers, comfortable bedrooms, excellent showers, lovely outdoor eating area and barbecue. For golfers the course was a challenge, especially the ninth, and in nearby Salema we found good value quality sea food restaurants. The local village has a bakery and Intermarche where you can get all you need.

Will definitely be going again !!!!!

Special interest holidays:

Within the golf club, there is an excellent restaurant and spike bar overlooking the 18th hole. Within a short drive there are numerous quality restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets.

Mountain Biking, Scuba, Watersports, Horse Riding and Boat Cruises can be arranged locally or further information can be provided by my Villa Manager. Numerous scenic walks are available in the vicinity. Several quiet, sandy beaches are accessible within a short drive. Excellent surfing beaches on the west coast are only 10 - 15 minutes drive from the resort.


This area is still one of Portugal’s hidden secrets, from the tranquility of it’s sheltered southern beaches and fishing ports, to the wilder more rugged west coast with it’s spectacular surf. It boasts over 3000 hours of sunshine each year. The countryside consists of rolling landscapes, picturesque hamlets and fishing villages, as well as towns steeped in maritime heritage. Unlike the East, this region is delightfully unspoilt and untouched by commercialization.


Santo Antonio Resort (formerly Parque da Floresta) is approx 100km west from Faro on the A22 motorway and is very easy to find. Numerous airlines fly to Faro and hire cars are available at the airport. Please see my website for airline and car hire links as well as directions.


Lagos is the nearby town with its culture and history dating back to Roman times. It was from here in 1514 that Prince Henry the Navigator launched his fleet to seize Ceuta in Morocco setting the stage for Portugal's age of discovery. The town is a maze of cobbled streets with pavement restaurants, cafés and bars.

To the west is the port of Sagres with its dramatic headland –Cape St Vincent which is the most south westerly point of Europe.

Further Details:

Change-over day is usually Saturday, but may be negotiable with the owner except in July and August. Please e-mail the owner to reserve the villa at Once the availability has been checked, the owner will e-mail back the address/bank details to which the deposit should be sent.

Bookings are subject to receipt of 25% of the full cost and a confirmatory e-mail from the owners. The balance is due 6 weeks prior to departure. Please send a cheque made out in £’s sterling to the owner’s address or request bank details for a BACS transfer. A contract will be in force once the deposit has been banked. We reserve the right to refuse a booking. Late payment will result in cancellation of the booking and loss of the deposit paid.

Clients are responsible for payment of the food packs if requested. Please settle up the account with my house manager when you arrive. Pool heating is an extra expense (please note that heating the pool can be expensive in cooler weather). The maids will visit during the week and then clean on departure. This service is included in the rental cost.


The owners cannot accept any liability for circumstances arising out of their control, amounting to ‘force majeure’. This includes war or threat of war, industrial action, terrorist activities, riot, civil war, avian flu (or the threat of such), weather, earthquake, failure of electric, gas or water supply, noise, etc.

The owners will not be responsible for any accident that occurs on the property. This villa is on 3 levels and there are numerous steps and ornamental walls. There is a swimming pool and Jacuzzi so it is the tenant's responsibility to care for children at all times.

Please inform my manager, Carmo, of any breakage or malfunction so that this can be rectified by the maintenance team.

Notes on accommodation: The villa is equipped with air conditioning/heater units in each room. It is situated on the side of a hill set on 3 levels with patio areas/balconies on each level. There are numerous outside steps so that this property is not suitable for the disabled or very young children. The owners will not be responsible for any accident that occurs on the property.
