I have been visiting Hawaii since 1984 and decided to make my family's dream of living in the islands a bit closer to reality by purchasing a home there in 2002. For now, we still live most of the year in Maryland near Washington, D.C., and we want to share our 2nd home in paradise with you.

I have traveled around the world for both business and pleasure but keep returning to the north shore of Kauai for its unsurpassed natural beauty, wonderful people, and special feeling of ALOHA.
This unique, 2000 sq.ft., two-level duplex home has a second master bedroom suite (full bath) with a separate entrance. It's perfect for two couples, families traveling with older and younger children, grandparents, or any other groups looking for a bit more privacy. The home also has a large covered outdoor lanai (with ceiling fans) furnished with a teak dining table that can seat 8 and an outdoor sofa and ottoman. There is also a gas propane BQ. There are no other homes available for rent in the area with these special features. The home also has games and toys for young children, beach chairs and towels. There are also two 21 gear bikes included for guest use. The ocean can be seen from the second floor master bedroom and there are mountain views from the front lanai.
We are back again this year, this time with friends who are enjoying staying in the 2nd master bedroom with its separate entrance. Thanks for the continual improvements you have made. Nice to see the new St. Regis and Westin hotels operating in Princeville, but we love the feel of your home.
We enjoyed our stay at Mauna Kai. The photos and descriptions are a good representation of the property. The town home was clean, and everything was in working order. There were plenty of towels, beach equipment and a well-outfitted kitchen. Having the master bedroom in the loft was a bit odd, but it didn't matter as we were traveling with older teens and young adults and we all went to bed and woke around the same time. The property is very close to other units. Fortunately, quiet hours were observed during out stay. We especially enjoyed the lanai and the outdoor pool across the street.
The closest beach was down a steep, muddy trail, but there were plenty of other nearby beaches. We loved Queen's Bath, which was definitely worth the hike. We also enjoyed Hanalei restaurants and drinks at the St. Regis in Princeville.
I would definitely recommend the Mauna Kai property to a friend.
The room off the entrance was too warm even with the fan. Need a floor fan in upstairs room which also was warm during the day. Check out kitchen supplies, need a new can opener
We enjoyed our week in April 2016. It's a convenient location to all the best beaches on the north coast and a beautiful walk down to Anini beach, although the walk is too steep for elderly and very young children (we had to carry our toddler). The house is well equipped and spacious, especially loved the outdoor space. If you're bringing children, you don't need to bring any toys as there are plenty there.
Overall experience was fone
This is a great property on the north shore- which is the best part of Kauai in our opinion. The house was in a quiet area and has a really nice, large deck on the back which we used everyday. The space inside was clean and neat. The master bedroom was great - that was a highlight. We could hear the ocean at night and wake up to the sound of it in the morning (possibly because they waves were huge from large swells). The owner was easy to get in contact with and we enjoyed our stay. We also liked being close to the St. Regis resort as that is the best place on Kauai for happy hour. The house had everything we needed to have a nice time and be comfortable.
Kauai itself seems to be overrun with tourists and the traffic was unbelievable - this caught us by surprise.
The house was adequate for our group of six people very well equipped and beautiful deck that started our day and ended our day
Overall a great home excellent area and close amenities
2nd Master Bedroom Suite has separate entrance. Great for privacy.
