Apartment in Oz Station, Alpe d'Huez, French Alps - Ideal Location On The Slopes, Sunny South Westerly Aspect, Close To Lifts, Shops And Amenities

This 5th floor south westerly facing apartment enjoys breathtaking views of the mountains and is next to the piste and lifts. It has free access to the heated indoor pool, sauna and gym and free use for 1 car in the multistorey car park. There is an English speaking reception desk who will deliver breakfast bakery to your door. The apartment is a very short stroll to the shops, restaurants, bars, ski school and Tourist Office and is a very easy ski back to at the end of the day. Oz is a small picturesque village which does not allow cars. It is ideal for families, being very safe for children to play. A magic carpet and tobogganning slope are next to the apartment. Oz (1350m) is 1 of 5 resorts in the Grandes Rousses region with 245km slopes, 121 pistes, 84 lifts and 770 snow canons. Lifts in Oz give direct access to the sking in Alpe d'huez where there are slopes to challenge all level of skier (the sarenne is the longest black run in Europe). There is also a half pipe for boarders.

About Liz Wright

I work part time for a national charity in Buckinghamshire where I live with my husband and 2 children. We bought this apartment from new so that we could enjoy active holidays winter and summer as the children grew up. Now "young adults" they have had many excellent holidays in the mountains with us and with their friends - they never fail to delight in demonstrating their skills and speed on the slopes! They have both learnt to ski and snowboard in Oz to a high standard. We have particularly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of the village and the local people are extremely helpful. We always receive glowing reviews about this "best kept secret" in the alps!

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the range of activities available in the summer for all age groups and in particular for teenagers. We have "endured" canyoning, via ferrata, white water rafting and mountain biking in the pursuit of family activities and have had great fun. Tennis, walking, canoeing and cycling are easily accessible and also great fun for all the family. As we like to avoid busy locations in school holidays, Oz has been a fantastic find for us and I would recommend it to anyone!

Why Liz Wright chose Isere

Our apartment has a unique position at the edge of the village overlooking the pistes. We have an uninterrupted view over the mountains and can watch skiers return after their day out as they ski back into the chalet. Having spent many years carrying skis and poles to the lifts in other resorts, having bought this apartment where it is possible to ski directly to the lift in the morning and straight back in the afternoon to the ski locker; carrying skies whilst on holiday is now a thing of the past! Comfort is also important to us and the apartment is always warm with plenty of hot water.

This is a holiday home from home for us so we have ensured that there is plenty of storage in the apartment, there is a full complement of kitchen utensils and comfortable chairs both in the apartment and on the balcony.

The apartment is managed locally by an excellent team of people who are able to help and advise clients allowing you to fully enjoy your time in Oz.

What makes this apartment unique

Location, location, location and the views from the apartment are spectacular! The apartment has free access to the swimming pool, sauna and small gym located in the adjacent chalet. It is also possible to book a table in the excellent restaurant, la Ferme d'Oz next door for the entire evening if you do not want to cook and would like the service offered by hotels. The food is first class, they cater for children and the set menus are reasonably priced. Without having set sittings it is possible to amble down at your own convenience. The owner is Belgian and speaks perfect English!

Even better is the bakery delivery service which brings fresh bread/croissants to your door in the morning for breakfast. Give your order to reception in advance and enjoy a traditional French breakfast!

We also have an arrangement with the local private ski hire shop who offers a discount to our clients, speaks perfect English and offers an excellent friendly service.

Ski school (ESF) is also next door so for young families, parents can maximise their time on the slopes whilst the children are in lessons. In fact, Oz actively encourages families by offering low priced family ski passes. With no cars allowed in the village, Oz is an excellent location to bring a family!

The last day was a bit manic considering we had all day at the resort so we didn’t get the chance to write in your visitors book which we’d have liked, but everything about the trip (when we finally got there!) was great. The chalet was gorgeous and far too big for just the 2 of us, the bar and restaurants were lovely, the area itself was stunning with more than enough runs for us, and Carole was so friendly and very helpful. We also touched very lucky with the weather, non stop snow Wednesday and Thursday, bright sunshine Friday and as you’ll know lots more snow Saturday!!"

Notes on accommodation: The apartment has underfloor heating, a ski locker, free parking for 1 car (additional places charged at 23€/week). Ideal for children - good tobogganing around chalet and on the pistes in the evening within view of the balcony. The resort has a day nursery from 6 months and a "ski garden" from 2 years. The ski school, 50m from the apartment, has excellent English speaking instructors. Children can play in total safety in this car free village. Restaurants cater for children and several offer takeaway pizzas. Outside: Direct access to the ski slopes/lifts. Private indoor heated swimming pool, sauna and gym for use of guests. Good family restaurant opposite. Other restaurants, shops and bars are an easy walk. Lifts run in the summer offering good walking and mountain biking opportunities. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen, towels and cleaning are included. Cleaning and fresh linen is offered weekly. A manned reception area will be able to help with any problems and offer advice in English. Other: The apartment enjoys views from balconies at the front and rear of the apartment. There is also a private ski locker next to the door leading to the piste.

Fantastic family accommodation in unbeatable location

This property exceeded all our expectations and the owner, Liz, could not have been more helpful in the run up to our holiday. The accommodation is ski in and out, beside the ski school and has a balcony that overlooks the slopes whilst drenched in the afternoon sun. The apartment had everything we could possibly have needed and was well suited to our young families. The travel cots and high chairs meant we didn't need to transport cumbersome baby equipment and the apartment was so spacious we never felt cramped. The swimming pool was the icing on the cake and we often had it to ourselves. The resort itself was ideal, no cars and no long ski bus rides to the slopes. The locals were incredibly friendly and helpful and we couldn't have asked for a better experience for our first family ski trip. We are already looking at dates for next year and will be looking to book again. I can't imagine getting anything better anywhere else, certainly the best ski accommodation we have ever stayed in.

Fabulous, comfortable, well equipped home from home apartment in a brilliant location

We had a fantastic experience from the moment we booked the apartment. Liz has been so helpful and has provided us with many recommendations to make our trip run smoothly. The apartment is ideal for skiers or others just wanting to enjoy the mountains with an unrivaled view of the mountains, the lifts and returning skiers from the comfort of a south facing balcony. Oz is a hidden gem of a resort, ideal for families as restricted access of cars in the village makes it a safe playground for children. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and the local restaurants are excellent. Oz is also the perfect location to access the ski runs of Alpe d'huez and Vaujany being between both resorts and with easy access to the lifts you can get on the slopes before others. Skiing right back to the door is a luxury as is an easy ski to the lifts in the morning.

I would come back to this apartment again in a heartbeat! Thank you Liz for a fantastic holiday from all of our family.

Fabulous location; nicely appointed apartment

We had a great time in Oz. Too late in the season for fantastic snow; but enough to have a great time. The apartment is spacious; well appointed and in a great location with views over the Poutrans lift. The village is small and everything needed for a family ski holiday is close at hand. Liz was very helpful in preparing us for our stay - thank you

My girlfriends and I enjoyed a fantastic week skiing in this apartment in Oz En Oisan. The apartment was clean, well equipped and the location outstanding as you can ski in and ski out from the slopes. I would highly recommend this apartment and will definitely want to return.

Great base for introducing children to skiing

Lovely, well equipped apartment in really nice, family friendly resort. We also had a good experience of the local ESF, particularly Club Piou Piou, which got our five year old properly skiing down green runs by the end of the week.

The apartment provides easy access to the slopes of both Alpe d'huez and Vaujany - you can be on the slopes quicker from Oz with its central location than from these other resorts!. There is a good range of very accessible slopes for both beginners and the more advanced skier. In particular it is an excellent resort for Children with its Magic Carpet and no car policy. and there is a glacier which ensures skiing at all times of the year.

In the summer there is also a wealth of activities to entertain all age groups who are looking for an active holiday. This includes summer skiing, ice skating, walking ,cycling, swimming, tree top climbs, via ferrata and a host of fun water based activities such as canyoning, hot dogging, canoeing and white water rafting. Many large cycle races are based in this area and Oz is an ideal location to observe them. An excellent range of sports activities are available at local leisure centres which can easily be booked and a small crazy golf course entertains all ages in the village. Two tennis courts are free to use in the village with more indoor courts available in Alpe d'huez.


Oz is easily accessible by road and air.

By road the distances are: Grenoble 55km, Marseille 345km, Lyon 155km, Paris, 620km, Geneva 205km.

Distances from local airports: Grenoble Saint-Geoirs 95km, Lyon Saint-Exupéry 145km

The drive from Calais is around 10 hours.


The apartment is 50m to the village and all its amenities and 20km to the nearest town of Bourg d'Oisans.
