About Mike and Emma
Hola, our names are Mike and Emma. In 2002 we saw the magnificent but neglected Finca El Almendrillo and decided to buy. After two years building and refurbishment we opened for our first Summer letting and were amazed by the response !
Mike and Emma purchased this Villa in 2002
Why Mike and Emma chose Loja
We were knocked out when we saw the size, secluded rural location and above all the tranquility of Finca El Almendrillo. During our first week´s stay the only sounds we heard were the song of birds and planes far far above in the clear blue sky. We knew that we could create a luxurious holiday environment. Two years building and one 17 metre (55 foot) pool later we believe we have done so.
What makes this Villa unique
Many people who stay at Finca El Almendrillo never leave for their whole week or fortnight ! For them we can organise an airport taxi service, and they only need to think about whether to lie by the pool or in the shade, whether to use the huge outdoor barbecue or the designer kitchen and whether or not to have a siesta. Others find that, though rural and secluded, Almendrillo is perfectly placed for car trips to the Andalucian treasures of Sevilla, Ronda, Cordoba and Granada, not forgetting the Costa del Sol at Malaga and the Costa Tropical at Motril and La Herradura. Rental options are indeed rare which offer the combination of size and convenience (your whole extended family together in one place) luxury (the pool has been described as "Olympic") and local opportunities for holiday fun

We had a wonderfull stay in this Finca. The view is amazing and the house is perfect for about 20 guests. Hosts are very helpfull and did everything they could to ensure our perfect stay. The house has a lot of different spots to sit and relax, in the sun of shade. The giant pool was the perfect spot to cool down in the hot Spanish sun. We enjoyed our wedding ceremonie on the terrace with the beautifull panaromic view and had a wonderfull diner on the patio for which we hired extra tables and chairs. We had a perfect stay and highly recomend it to anyone looking for a perfect vacation.
This was our third visit to this fantastic property and once again it proved absolutely perfect for our party of 14 adults.
It is a great house with all you need for a large group in stunning surroundings of olive and almond groves and a great view of the mountains and sky which becomes magical at night the sun goes down and the stars and planets pop into view. This year we ere treated to an amazing electric storm which was very exciting watch from the safety and comfort of the covered terrace.
Again we cannot recommend this property highly enough for a large group wishing to holiday together but wanting their own space as well. Comfortable bedrooms most with own shower room. Many indoor and outdoor spaces. A highlight for our group is the full size swimming pool with gorgeous clean clear water and plenty of sun beds and shade if you require it.
As self caterers there are three kitchens including one outside to cook in and enjoy whilst sampling the local beers and wines.
We will be back!
Magical week in Andalusia
Our week at Finca el Almendrillo could not have been better. It's hard to know where to start with the compliments. Perhaps with the views: One could sit on any of several beautifully furnished terraces and simply gaze out for hours! The distant sound of the farm machinery continuously tilling around the olive trees was as soothing as the vista from the terrace, and lazing about the pool.
The house is commodious, well-equipped, and very comfortable. Mike is a great communicator--though we had little need for communication, as all house instructions were clearly presented in advance. We had 7 days of perfect weather. The kitchen easily accommodates a group who like cooking together. For us, it also accommodated Ian and Diana, who prepared a 4-course regionally-inspired meal, and even gave us some of the recipes.
We found Antonio’s (bar and restaurant in Fuente del Conde) to be a great resource, and stopped there almost daily for a coffee, a snack, or a gin and tonic. The walk down and back up allowed us to justify it all!
Our longest day trip was to Granada and the Alhambra. Otherwise we had a wonderful time meandering through the smaller nearby cities: Antequera, Iznahar, and Rute.
We never know where our next adventure will be; there is always the desire to try someplace new. We were so enchanted with Finca el Almendrillo, however, that we are actually considering booking again for next year. I would heartily recommend this house to anyone considering a journey to southern Spain.
Finca el Almendrillo is a perfect holiday villa for a large group. It is well laid out and there is plenty of space for everyone to be together and it is also easy to find a balcony or shady spot or the hammock for some quiet time to yourself.
The bedrooms are well laid out with many rooms interleading making it the perfect house for families with younger children. There are lots of bathrooms, several ensuite and those that are not (en suite) are conveniently located for everyone else.
The kitchen is well equipped and a good central meeting place and there are several different places to eat outside.
The pool is fantastic. Plenty of space around the pool to accommodate both sun worshippers and shade lovers alike. The pool itself is also a great size for swimming lengths, but equally good for pool games too.
Mike and his manager Sian (in Spain) were really helpful and if we needed anything, they were quick to respond and everything worked very smoothly.
Lots of things to do around and about, so much choice, but there is a very helpful folder with all the information you could need.
I would definitely recommend Almendrillo to friends and family and hope to return in the not too distant future.
Fantastic week in an amazing property
We were a group of 4 families with 8 adults and 10 children (aged 9-14) and stayed at the Finca Almendrillo for a wonderful week in August.
The setting was amazing on the top of a hill overlooking the olive groves and was very private with plenty of spaces for everyone to be together or to find a quiet spot if desired. We had good communication from Mike before the trip who provided us with details on how to find the Finca, things to do and advice regarding shopping which was much appreciated.
The large pool was fantastic. We spent hours each day playing games in the water, relaxing in the many seating areas around the property and spotting shooting stars at night.
We loved it there so much that we didn’t leave often although did manage trips to the lake at Iznajar for pedalo fun, to Granada and to the local Antonio’s taverna for a meal and drinks one night. We ate in every other night all coming together in the courtyard and made good use of the outdoor kitchen and barbeque.
All in all we would definitely recommend Finca Almendrillo as a wonderful holiday destination.
Wonderful week at amazing Almendrillo
Almendrillo was the most perfect setting for our 3 generation family holiday. The spacious and very well equipped finca provided superb accommodation for four families and the views from the terraces were breathtaking. The pool, with its shady terrace, was by far and away the biggest pool we have ever had with a holiday villa and provided hours of fun for everyone, ages 6 to 70+.
The owner, Mike, was extremely helpful and responded immediately to any and all communications from me. He also put me in touch with Ian and Diana who came up to the finca each evening and cooked delicious 3 course Mediterranean meals for us - after feeding the children first!
I would love to return to the magical El Almendrillo and would not hesitate to recommend it to any large family group.
