Ca's Penelope is an unusual house built by a Belgian photographer with curved walls, huge airy rooms and a real get-away-from-it all feeling that many guests find hard to leave. The 13m private swimming pool in lush citrus-filled garden with stylish outdoor dining and breathtaking 360 degree views, put the seal on easy living. It's 5 minutes walk to the centre of 'prettiest village in Spain' Fornalutx where you will find everything you need for a relaxing holiday. This stylish house is featured in interior design magazines but is a family home for some of the year and is therefore extremely well equipped. There's wonderful Tramuntana hiking and cycling from the doorstep, bustling Soller for a saturday morning market 'fix' and just down the road (6 km) you will find the lively Port de Soller with its many beaches, restaurants and busy marina.
"We have enjoyed the fruits of your labour of love in so many ways with wonderful experiences. To arrive late in the day to a well stocked fridge, and chilled wine was just the beginning. The therapy of the pool, books, movies, mountain air, incredibly comfortable beds and travel advice, made for the ultimate holiday. You have created a paradise. Bravo on your beautiful hospitality" The Grahams ,Sept 2013
"Perfect place for a family holiday. The toys were perfect and the house so well equipped. Loved the pool and staring at the mountains. Wish we'd had more days." The Buckleys Aug 2012
'A perfect setting for a 'grown up' family holiday with our student age sons and their friends. You have created a gorgeous and unique house- the splendid library, outside spaces, lovely stone showers, voile curtains....We enjoyed many communal feasts, good company, great food prepared en-famille. And the views, the views, the views.... simply wonderful' The Storrar family and friends, september 2011
We spent one week in Fornalutx in april. The house was very cosy. We were warmly welcomed by the owner: she had a welcome pack ready for us, she made a delicious cake and had a crib ready for our baby!
The house is just outside the village in a very quiet setting with an amazing view. It was well equiped with everything we could have needed.
I would rent this house again without hesitation.
Thank you for making us all so welcome in your beautiful home, the delicious cake you made for my birthday was such a kind thought and very much enjoyed!
We all loved the house: the peaceful setting in lush gardens, watching the sunset change the colour of the mountains...
It was very convenient to be able to walk into the village for shops, bars, restaurants etc.,the only tiny downside of the location being a lack of parking close to the house when we did use the car,but we soon got used to the short walk down to the parking/recycling area.
Ca's Penelope met all the needs of our mixed-age (21 to 62) group of eight. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking and the full fridge/welcome pack of essentials and goodies kept us well-fed for days.
The rooms and bathrooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortable, with high quality furnishings and a delightful 'house fragrance' body wash in the showers.
We took advantage of the wide range of games, music and books on hand,as well as relaxing in the shady garden and swimming in the gorgeous (non-chlorinated?) pool.
Fornalutx is well situated for outings to Soller for shopping and eating,or the tram to Port de Soller for beach and boats, and we had an interesting drive on the mountain road to Deia for the Big Birthday Lunch at 'La Residencia',which was fabulous and enhanced by a fiesta in the village complete with marching band celebrating St.John the Baptist's Day!
We would all recommend Ca's Penelope very highly as an ideal holiday house, and congratulate you on creating a delightful home,a project well documented in the 'House Book'.
Thank you Jenny for making us so welcome. We enjoyed meeting you and the children, and loved your charming home.It all made for a memorable birthday holiday!
Thank goodness the owner rescued this house from becoming a crumbling wreck.Thank goodness she and her family decant to Soller to let others enjoy this gem.
She is a dedicated and generous host.
The spacious and tastefully furnished rooms of this elegant villa are not the main attraction. What is lies outside.Open the shutters in the morning and you are greeted by sunlight streaming in through the palm fronds, woodsmoke lazily drifting upwards towards the peaks of the Tramuntana mountains, cockerels heralding the morning and above all,the lush green vegetation protecting their fruits from the summer sun.To take your breakfast outside and be enveloped by the mountains that don't threaten but gently cocoon you is a joy.
The biggest issue you will have with Ca's Penelope is leaving it,but mammon's needs must be met so take a stroll up to Ca'n Antuna for melt in the mouth suckling pig.No wonder the former King of Spain dines there. For something more vibrant try Ca'n Pixto,a trendy tapas restaurant in elegant Soller.Ca'n Boqueta and Luna 63,also in Soller offer Michelin star quality without Michelin star prices. If you fancy going just a little further to Port de Soller whatch the sunset whilst eating smoked eel at Es Passeig and for a truly memorable feast and a breathtakingly beautiful view go up into the hills at Ca's Xorc.
But you have to leave and if your flight back to normality is a late one end it on a high note by having lunch by the sea in Palma at Hotel Pixtol followed by a visit to Palma's beautiful Cathedral.
10 minute drive to the lively Port de Soller with its many beaches restaurants and busy marina. For an unforgettable beach experience, drive (20 mins), walk or cycle to Cala Deia, a stunning pebbly cove offering crystal waters, fabulous snorkelling and a great cliff top fish 'shack' restaurant.
Palma International Airport, 35km (40 mins in a car).
Car hire is strongly recommended. Taxi fare approximately 50 Euros.
Fornalutx: 5 min walk.
Port de Soller: 6 km.
Fornalutx is one of the most picturesque villages in Spain and provides every necessity for your holiday: 3 bars, 2 cafés, 4 restaurants and a very well-stocked supermarket providing daily international newspapers. There are also two banks, a pharmacy, a beauty centre and a Catholic church. Fabulous walks in the Serra de Tramuntana begin on the doorstep, walking guides and excursions by prior arrrangement. Great clay tennis courts at Soller Tennis club, private coaching available. Many activities available just a short drive from the house and if you belong to the chill-out holday set, Ca's Penelope's tranquil setting will help you unwind in double quick time.
