Chiclana De La Frontera, Pago Del Humo, Costa de la Luz - Peaceful Village, 10 mins from Chiclana, 15 mins from La Barrosa Beach. Close to Cadiz & Jerez
- english, french, spanish
Hi, my name is Berna, I live in Ireland with my husband Charly, we both love Spain and speak the language. We spent 3 years searching for our ideal home in the sun and we bought villa Cuba Libre in 2006. Our favourite city is Seville and we visit every year usually for the Feria in April, to visit the sights to eat Tapas and drink the local brews Cruz Campo, manzanilla, Tierra Blanca wine. We go to Jerez for the International Flamenco Festival in Feburary/March, the Feria of Horses in Jerez in May or The Wine Harvest Festival in September. We love to spend time in Cuba Libre as it offers total relaxation. We are very active and love to walk and cycle in the area (5 minutes) from the villa is Pinar de Hierro y Espartossa National Park.) We run and swim on La Barrosa Beach. We go to the market of Chiclana and buy fresh locally grown vegetables, fresh fish and meat for the BBQ.
Owner purchased this Villa in 2006
Why Owner chose Chiclana de la Frontera
We bought the villa which we named after our favourite drink, Cuba Libre (ingredients are: Cacique rum, CocaCola, drops of Angostura Bitters, juice of half a lime from the garden and ice). We added a pool and patio garden with a built in BBQ. We put in a Wood Burner which adds warmth and coziness to the villa during the winter. It is in the perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and relax at the same time. Chiclana is only 5 minutes drive away. Easy access to Seville, Cadiz, Jerez and Malaga. The village of Pago Del Humo has a range of bars/restaurants serving authentic food at very reasonable prices. It has a pharmacy, mini supermarket with daily fresh hot baked bread. Lose yourself in Seville spend a day tasting delicious cheap tapas, finding unique shops and hidden treasures everywhere. The Andalusian capital has it all. The Chiclana Fair begins with the holiday of San Antonio, 13 June, and forms one of the most important party dates in the Chiclana calendar. Andalusian tradition and spirit is everywhere: Flamenco and Sevillanas Music, food, sherry, the typical fair-dresses for women and men... for one week Chiclana will be partying day and night Visit the beach of El Palmar and dine in Casa Francisco or Casa Juan, excellent fresh seafood served in both restaurants. Visit the hilltop village of Vejer de la Frontera, dine in Enchanting, historic hotel El Califa, Moroccan decor, excellent restaurant with large courtyard garden, and rooftop terrace bar.

We were delighted with the accommodation
The villa was everything we needed and lived up to our expectations. This was the best holiday we ever had in Spain and we have stayed in many parts of the country. We liked that the area was quite rural and quiet at night but still close to Chiclana and Conil. We cycled and walked and went to La Barossa to swim. There are many beautiful beaches to visit. The pool at the villa is clean and just the right temperature. We will definitely book a return visit.
Good to hear you both enjoyed your holiday in Cuba Libre. You had fantastic weather too. We would be delighted to have you back anytime. The villa was spotless when you left.
A truly fabulous place to stay - such a clean and holiday feel to the house
4 of us recently rented Cuba Libre for a week and I must say it was a fabulous place to stay. The house is clean and cosy and the gardens are beauftiful with orange lime and lemon trees in the garden.
The pool is a great size and lovely for a morning splash.
We drank cold San Miguel on the balcony in the evening while also cooking up some wonderful local meat on the barbeque.
Up the road you have a great local bar and your driving distance to the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Thank you for a wonderful trip - we will be back to Cuba Libre.
I am delighted you and your friends enjoyed your holiday in Cuba Libre.
I am sure you went to the market in Chiclana for the meat it really is excellent for BBQs.
I would be delighted to have you and your friends stay next year.
The property is clean and beautiful, it provides everything needed to enjoy a sweet and amazing holiday. The only negative point is the noise of the neighbor's dogs, this was really annoying especially for my little kids.
I am delighted you enjoyed Christmas in our villa. I am really sorry about the
neighbor's dogs. We have spoken to her about this and she apologized and said she didn't realize they were bothering you. She assures me that she will keep them in her back garden in the future.
Happy New Year.
Thank you for a wonderful stay in your gorgeous Villa it was so much more than we had expected .Lots of lovely personal touches awaited us on our arrival, the welcome package was much appreciated and the owners provided everything for a truly enjoyable vacation, many new upgrades can be seen throughout the villa allowing for a very comfortable stay.
The outside space is a perfect haven peaceful and private ,beautiful flowering shrubbery and crystal clear pool awaited us after a long day at one of the most spectacular beaches in Spain ,only wish we could of stayed longer to explore the surrounding area.
I highly recommend a stay at Cuba Libre.
I’m delighted you had a good holiday in Cuba Libre.
You will have to come back next year. Berna
Lovely villa, very well maintained with everything we needed. Spent our evenings sitting out barbequeing and listening to the crickets or down la barrosa beach enjoying local restaurants. We will be back sooner rather than later
Gorgeous Villa in a peaceful setting
This is my 4th Stay in Cuba Libre. The villa is in a quiet location, what I love, but it is minutes drive to the amazing La Barrosa Beach and El Palmar.
The villa is clean and is a well equipped. The WiFi was excellent which is important as I work remotely.
The outside area is perfect for sunbathing and long evening BBQs . There is air conditioning in all the rooms which was useful even though my stay was during October.
The garden and pool are completely private and are very well maintained with weekly visits from the pool man and gardener.
We will definitely be back next year. Thank you Berna (the owner) and Leigh (manager)
I would highly recommend this villa .
There are some lovely restaurants in the area, these are my favourite Los Pescadores, on La Barrosa, VAVA for cocktails and watching the amazing sunsets. La trastienda de Lusol for excellent wines and tapas (won prizes for best tapas), Amore on La Barrosa to watch any game, good food too. Ché Bar for cocktails. Casa Francisco and Casa Juan at El Palmar for excellent fish.
Closer to home is Venta Florentina good food and really reasonable.

Airports: Jerez de la Frontera is 30 minutes. Seville is 1h 15m Gibraltar is 1h 20m Malaga is 1h 5m via motorway. Use of a car is recommended: car hire is available from all airports. White villages set in the hills slightly inland are well worth a visit. Medina Sidonia, Vejer de la Frontera and Arcos are all worth a visit with their hilltop presence and magnificent views, cobblestone streets and beautiful town squares. Sample the Fiestas and Carnivals in the premier city of Seville. Isla Magica (like Alton Towers) is also to be found here for the kids amongst us! Also visit Puerto Santa Maria for the Waterpark. Visit and enjoy the tours around the Sherry and Brandy bodegas of Jerez and for the evening visit one of the many shows from the famous dancing horses to the fabulous Flamenco.
Explore Tarifa famous for its wind and kite surfing and of course its dunes, Roman ruins and plenty of white sands. You can also take a trip whale and Dolphin watching from here.

Gibraltar with its history, rocks, caves, Barbary Apes and duty free shopping is a good day out, but be prepared for long delays at the border and remember to take your passport!! It's better and cheaper to park outside for the day, walk through and take the buses, a day pass is cheap and the open top buses are fun in the summer.
Take the ferry from Puerto Santa Maria over to Cadiz (the oldest port in Europe) steeped in history and charm with quaint Tapas Bars.
If you like to horse ride on the beach the Royal Center in Sancti Petri has excellent sunset rides on the beach. Have dinner in La Herradura Restaurant and watch a spectular flamenco show from the terrace.
