Gite near Sainte Mere Eglise, Normandy, France
- english, french
We love the slower pace and attitude to life in rural France and enjoy sharing that with our guests.
Owner purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Owner chose Picauville
It was love at first sight even though the cottage was crumbling and the garden a jumble of weeds and rubble. The garden's starting to take shape as trees and shrubs begin to mature and every year brings a new plan together. I'm hoping for a wildlife pond this year - if only I can decide where to place it!
What makes this Cottage unique
We're close to everything yet tucked away in a little corner of heaven, a perfect spot to enjoy the best of both worlds.

A lovely gite in a quiet spot, great location for exploring the D-Day beaches.
We had a lovely holiday and we're made to feel very welcome by Sharon.
We would recommend the Gite to friends and family.
Lovely quite location
Basic gite in great location for historical D- day sites in Normandy. Local town is nearby with all amenities.
Warm and wonderful
We were made to feel more like neighbours than guests by owner Sharon :-)
The Burton family were a true joy to host and I cannot recommend them highly enough to future hosts.
Good appartment with a very nice owner
We had a wonderful time in Sharon's appartment in Normandy, nearby
saint-mère-eglise. The appartment was clean, everything you needed was there and it has a beautiful garden. The owner Sharon is very kind and helpful. We can recommend this appartment if you are looking for a good appartment in Normandy! :)
Lovely Relaxing Holiday
Had a really relaxing holiday. Gite was lovely and well equipped with everything you could think of,including a BBQ which we used several times.
Centrally located for all the Normandy beaches and museums.
Sharon was a warm and friendly host.
We are looking to go back in 2015-can't wait!!
A great stay
we stayed at Sharon's gite three nights and she was a great host who greeted us really nicely, we had a great time at her fully-equipped gite providing a really lovely garden in the countryside. Definitely a place to come back to!
Beautiful sandy beaches within 8 miles and plenty to choose from.
Cherbourg ferry port is 40 mins drive away, Caen/Ouistreham 1 hour. The train station at Carentan (approx 20 mins by car) provides a regular service to Paris from which to access European air/rail links. Driving times are approximate.
Sainte-Mere-Eglise market town is about 3 miles away. Utah Beach, the nearest D-Day landing beach is about 20 mins away. The nearest beach is about 15 mins drive. National Park centre in Carentan, 20 mins drive.
Both local villages have shops, weekly markets and a supermarket. Sainte Mere Eglise was one of the first villages to be liberated during the D-Day Landings and the Landing Beaches, Memorials and Museums are all within comfortable reach by car, the nearest Memorials and Museums being just a short walk/drive away. Among other things the National Parks offer boat rides, bird watching and nature walks and there are also water sports, tennis, golf and locally organised cycling trips.
