Why Nick Timms chose Cléré-du-Bois
Many family holidays as a child made France and the Loire region a special place and when taking on the venture, La Vieille Ferme was the perfect fit. The location is ideal for the best of the climate, travelling times and proximity to places of interest. La Vieille Ferme and Cléré have the charm and the typical French countryside lifestyle that we love whilst also having the comfort and quality that we want our guests to enjoy!
What makes this Cottage unique
A heated covered pool is a real winner to suit all weathers and all seasons. Added to that the Ozone system with no salt or chemicals and a jet stream to swim against, it's a big plus! The location is unbeatable. The warm climate you find south of the Loire river. The central position between some of the best Châteaus France has to offer, Futuroscope theme park, a zoo with a rare giant panda, the Brenne National Park on our doorstep and the vast array of local activities, market towns, vineyards, eateries and picturesque countryside to enjoy!

Idyllic family holiday location
We have just returned from one of the best family holidays, the only problem was having to come home - so we are planning to return again next year. Everything about this location was perfect, from the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the hosts, who had cooked a meal for us and provided a bottle of wine to go with it, to the last evening sharing a BBQ with new found friends. The covered heated pool was fantastic on the couple of wet days we had, the free wifi kept the teenagers happy. The Farmhouse is clean, comfortable & well equipped for self-catering, a BBQ is available for use, as are sun-loungers & outdoor games equipment. The owner & hosts have spent time thinking about their guests needs, the result is a fantastic holiday location that feels like home.
The village location is just off the main tourist route, suiting us just fine, but within easy reach of more chateaus than you can visit in a week, our favourite being Montresor (small but beautiful and with a lovely little bar in the village). There is something for all the family to visit in the local area.
Idyllic and stress relieving
Wow. Where to start ? Fantastic first evening when due to me forgetting that French shops all close at 12 noon on a Sunday we arrived with zero provisions - Angela was there with wine, pasta, parmesan, fresh tomatoes and fresh herbs from the glorious garden for me to cook. Lazy days, quiet quiet quiet, bats and owls at night, all sorts of hawks and woodpeckers and herons during the day. My wife read a whole book in a few days (first time ever). Brilliant location for Central France visits, or to do nothing. Fabulous swimming pool. Brilliant pond with frogs & toads. Excellent "extras" in the gite like filter coffee, milk, tea bags, olive oil, soap, loo rolls, washing machine powder etc. Will definitely find time to go again.
We are delighted that the holiday was everything you could have hoped for. We look forward to welcoming you back on a future visit.
Peace rest and relaxation
The property is beautiful, well kept, clean and welcoming it is every bit as wonderful as it looks in the pictures. The four of us were looking for a relaxing week, and after looking at places all over France my wife found La Vielle Ferme. When we arrived we welcomed by our hosts and given a quick tour of the property both the accommodation and the facilities. From the first minute there we chilled out. With a decent swimming pool, table tennis and badminton. Fabulous sunbathing areas as well as shaded areas it was a perfect place to unwind. The hosts had even included a couple of Europe to UK plug converters in most rooms and extension cables to plug in as many phones, ipads, laptops etc that you are likely to have taken with you. Only one thing spoilt any of the time there and that was the local restaurant L'assiette the food at best was only fair (but very expensive) and at worst it ranked as one of the worst meals I have ever eaten with a raw egg dumped on top of my pizza. At the other end of the spectrum however was a personal recommendation of our hosts Derek & Angela to eat at the Hotel L'image about a 20 minute drive from the Farmhouse it was excellent. Four courses of stunning food including scallops and steaks, the most amazing lamb, gorgeous puddings, wonderful cheeses, a waiter with a witty gallic attitude and excellent red and white wines incidentally about the same price all in for our first mediocre meal at L'assiette, if you do stay here don't miss the Hotel L'image restaurant with it first class staff. La Vielle Ferme will not suit everyone - even the wildlife is quite here, so if your looking for bars and clubs, music and dancing this place isn't for you. If you want peace and quiet, relaxation a real re-charge of your batteries don't look any further. We will definitely be going back.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your holiday and that it provided the perfect relaxing, peaceful stay for you all. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
A very peaceful haven
Angela and Derek have created a beautiful haven. The standard of the cottages(and we got to see all of them) was amazing with every need catered for. It was great to have a pool onsite and be able to swim at the end of October. There are a lot of places to visit in the surrounding area and Loches is wonderful, especially the market.
Thank you, we will return.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday and that the heated, covered pool was a hit !
We look forward to welcoming you back to La Vieille Ferme
Lovely Relaxing Holiday
Our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 girls 13 & 11) had a wonderful holiday here at the gites. The gite and grounds are extremely well kept by the owners. The sun terrace and swimming pool are beautiful and we also enjoyed use of the additional facilities that were offered ie badminton and table tennis. It is a quiet and peaceful village and just perfect for a relaxing holiday. Derek and Angela made our holiday very special as they are very welcoming and helpful.
our wonderful chill out week
Great location, beautiful gite, brilliant hosts. Could not have asked for better. We have been here many times, but because of Angela and Derek's continuous improvements it just gets better. If you want total relaxation in a beautiful rural location you will be hard pressed to fine better.
