We have always loved France and it was our dream to be able to live here. We bought a holiday home in Poitou Charentes 15 years ago and spent many happy family holidays there. After Bill decided to call it a day on his fire service career and our children had left home, we decided to start looking for somewhere more permanent where we could share our love of France with others. We were thrilled when we found "Le Tilleul", situated in the peaceful and pretty village of Paizay le Tort. Les Hirondelles and La Boheme have welcomed many holidaymakers over the years and we look forward to welcoming you soon.
Vicky Renwick purchased this barn in 2012
The tranquility, the birdsong, the variety of wildlife, the abundant sunflower fields, the pace of life, the friendliness of the locals, the coast and beaches within easy reach, charming villages, fabulous food and wine, the history, the contrast of the seasons, the wonderful climate and the fact that this area is reached within a day's drive of the UK
Le Tilleul (means Lime Tree in France and is the beautiful tree which greets you as you enter the gates of Le Tilleul Gites) is set in a pretty village with all the buildings enclosed in the gated and walled courtyard - step outside the gate and walk or cycle the country roads, in summer abundant with sunflowers and often with only the birdsong for company, although you may see red squirrels, birds of prey and deer as you meander the roads. Our gites provide you with the perfect place for your holiday whether in Les Hirondelles or La Boheme. Our shared pool gives you somewhere to cool off and the indoor games room is perfect for keeping the whole family amused. If you want to explore the local area, we can put you in touch with a local bike hire company who have bikes and equipment for all ages. If you'd like a bit of pampering whilst on holiday, we can arrange that too. Although we are on-site, we are discreet but also on hand to provide any help and advice required.
"We have enjoyed our stay at Le Tilleul gites. The children made full use of the excellent playroom and swimming pool. The week went so quick and we would love to come back again as the gite is well placed for so many different places to see. Vicky and Bill are very helpful and we would definitely come back again"
"We loved staying here at La Boheme. Thank you for playing with the children, being so relaxed and friendly and making our stay so enjoyable. Apart from fabulous days relaxing beside the pool, we had two great days boating in Marais Poitevin. La Rochelle was beautiful and the markets were superb - Melle, Lezay & St Jean D'Angely"
"We had a great stay at Les Hirondelles. Vicky & Bill have thought of everything to make our stay as enjoyable as possible - from provision of varied welcome pack to nappy sacks!"

the property was lovely, comfortable and had everything we could possibly need to be comfortable. the open plan ground floor was great and the welcome pack, including wine :-), was delicious. pool was nice as the weather was so hot and the owners were helpful and friendly. only 1 suggestion - would be great to have fly screens on bedroom windows so we could leave windows open at night to keep rooms cool. would definitely return - we had a great time.
On arrival the property looked amazing. The gite was as described. It was very clean and had everything you needed. It was like home from home. We were met by the owner on arrival and received a lovely welcome basket. The location is very remote and very quiet. There are small villages all around with some places to eat. If you plan to go out and about plan it before you go. I would recommend this property to friends and family.
We have just been on a 3 week holiday to le Tilleul at Paizay le Tort with our good friends Aly and Richard.
The owners of the Gite…Bill and Vicki were just fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for them.
On our arrival…The best ever welcome pack started the holiday… complete with fresh eggs from their two chickens Betsy and Daisy, homemade jams, French stick, wines beers and cheese...fantastic! Both Gites are in a beautiful setting in rural France with shops and restaurants within easy range. We were in Les Hirondelles a converted 18th century detached barn…
This was a perfect place for a relaxing holiday, not forgetting the Jacuzzi and swimming pool.
We stayed in La Boheme for one week. We are a family of three with a teenage boy. The property was clean and very well equipped. A lovely 'welcome basket' was placed on the table and was a very nice touch, as well as useful with food and wine! The swimming pool proved a winner for our son who really loved being able to cool off after our outings. The owners are on site and there if you need them but also discreet at the same time. Nothing was too much trouble. A very useful book was left in the cottage with essential information covering an array of information from practical to touristic ideas. We loved the Marais Poitevin at Coulon as suggested in the book with many more ideas. Rating is difficult as we have not booked a gite before but we can confidently say that it surpassed our expectations. We have no qualms in recommending the property. We were lucky with the weather, which is another added bonus.
We were welcomed into the immaculate les Hirondelles. The welcome pack was so lovely and such a treat. Our family consisted of the two of us and eight year old daughter. The inside of the Gite is so well equipped, with spacious living area, 2 bathrooms (one has a nicely deep bath) and both bedrooms were very nice. Good quality mattresses and kitchen equipment . We particularly liked the pool and whilst enjoying the communal area we relaxed in the private area. The chickens are marvellous. I'm sure the eggs tasted much nicer! Bill and Vicky run the gites. Their interpersonal skills and respect for privacy really built towards the enjoyment of the holiday. Such a lovely week went so fast. We visited futuroscope and puy du fou. The latter being very crowded but a fantastic experience. Futuroscope tickets can be bought online using Tesco clubcard points. We ate our evening meals at home as I really enjoy cooking but ate out during our time there. Secret garden in Melle is worth a visit. Hope to visit again. Lovely holiday. Thanks and well done Vicky & Bill. Regards, Susan, Tim and Sorel
My brother and I stayed here in this lovely comfortable pleasant clean converted barn. . It is situated in small village and in lovely garden well looked after by the owners who live on the property, but not intrusive. They are a lovely couple and very kind to us both and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them and I would certainly recommend this idyllic place to anyone..
Our nearest beach is Chatelaillon-Plage near La Rochelle, only about one hour's drive through scenic countryside and through pretty French villages. We also have Lac Lambon, a man-made beach around a large lake, with plenty of amusements for all the family, with canoes, pedalloes etc. Swimming and canoeing are also available at Rejallant lake near Ruffec and there is a lovely beach and lake at Les Gours - in July and August there is also a lifeguard on duty, as well as a bar/restaurant open for snacks and meals.
