The chalet is south facing with wonderful views of the Pointe d'Areu to the south and the Grand Massif ski-ing area to the north. In summer the sports centre offers outside tennis courts and archery and more and there is local mountain biking, climbing, horse riding, walking, parapenting, windsurfing, swimming, fishing and many other activities area also possible in the area. Adventure Parks, canoeing, and golf can be reached with a short drive! Sailing is possible on Lake Annecy or Lake Geneva. The terrace is ideal for spring or summer barbecues.
We are private owners and this is our only chalet which we bought in 2012. Tony and Julia and their family have enjoyed the mountains in summer and winter and the family regularly takes other families or friends to the chalet. Julia speaks fluent French so really enjoys communicating with the local people although many now speak English!
Julia Barry purchased this chalet in 2002
We bought the chalet as the whole family enjoy skiing and we wanted a place close to Geneva in a village with a French feel to it. Les Carroz fits the bill as it was a village first before it became a ski resort. We now realise that we can have as much fun in the summer as the winter with many outdoor activities to participate in especially mountain biking. We use the chalet at least twice during the winter and once during the summer and our children also take their friends in their own parties. The chalet is big enough for two/three families but very comfortable when there are only four or five people.
The chalet is well planned and spacious so there is no need to feel cramped on a skiing holiday. It is orientated to catch the sun so keeps warm in summer and bright and airy in winter.
'This is our second visit to "Soleil Riant" and we hope it will not be our last. It is really perfect for what we need.'
'Amazing snow, beautiful spacious chalet, so well equipped. Great chalet perfectly designed for skiers. A true French ski chalet ski holiday'.
'We have all had a thoroughly enjoyable time - the chalet has been superb and has accommodated us all fantastically! (11 people including 3 babies).
We were two families sharing Soleil Riant for a week in August. It was our first time in the mountains in the summer and we will definitely return!
A few good things to do with kids in the immediate area: a good outdoor public pool, a couple of easy walking trails and a great tree top adventure centre, all within a 5 minute walk. Further afield: hiking, canyoning, mountain biking. Les Carroz is small and compact with several cafés, restaurants. There are plenty of 'what to do' brochures in the chalet. Lovely and very well maintained chalet: great for our two families. Enjoy!
The chalet is warm and comfortably furnished with plenty of storage in the bedrooms. On arrival we found the chalet very clean with a well equipped kitchen. The washing machine and drying area were a real bonus. We had really enjoyable holiday in Les Carroz and would certainly return to Chalet Soleil Riant again. Julia dealt with any queries quickly and sent comprehensive information on the resort and chalet.
A lovely, large, spacious traditional wooden chalet, yet with a cosy feel. Rooms are very spacious and the chalet is very well equipped - there was nothing that we wanted/needed that the chalet didn't have. Julia was very amenable & prompt answering queries and the booking couldn't have gone any smoother. There was only 4 of us, so the chalet was more than adequate, but had there been 10 of us I think it would have still been more than spacious enough! We were undecided whether to book in the centre of Les Carroz, but are glad we rented Soleil Riant instead - we have stayed in the centre before, but this chalet's quiet location was more convenient than we expected - the first stop on the bus route in the morning, no more than 10 minutes to the telecabine, but also a pleasant 10 minute walk from the centre after an apres-ski beer, or into the centre for an evening meal. Bedroom & living/dining area balconies were a bonus to watch the evening sunset and a great view of the mountains. Nothing so great as waking up to such an amazing view. I imagine Soleil Riant would be a great place to stay for a summer holiday as well as it was for our winter ski trip. Many thanks for making your chalet available to rent!
We rented Chalet Soleil Riant for the christmas week as we had family coming over from the UK and we were all impressed by how spacious and homely the chalet was. Julia the owner was very helpful when we were booking it and responded quickly to emails. Everything was very straightforward when we arrived and the chalet was clean and very well maintained. We were also very impressed with how well equipped the kitchen was and it had everything we needed to cater for a large group for christmas. The chalet is very well located, it is a peaceful location but easily walkable to the village and the ski bus also stops close by. It is also close to the heated open air swimming pool, which was a lovely experience.
We will definitely be going back to Chalet Soleil Riant!
Les Carroz is 1 hour from Geneva Airport.
The driving time from the Channel Tunnel is 8 - 9 hours (all autoroute except for the last 10 km).
Use of a car is very useful in summer, but not essential in winter (there is a ski-bus stop 50m from the chalet).
The village centre is 10 minutes on foot.
Cluses is 20 minutes in the car.
Les Gets/Morzine is 40 minutes by car (for ski-ing or mountain biking).
Mont Blanc (by telecabine) is 60 minutes by car and Italy a bit further.
There is a market in Les Carroz on Tuesdays. There are two small but well-stocked supermarkets, three bread shops, a butcher and several banks in the village. There are two Carrefour supermarkets within 25 minutes drive.
The village has over 23 places to eat (fewer in summer) and a cinema. The VTT (mountain biking) week-end in summer is very popular.
Hiking and cycling in the surrounding mountains in the summer gives you fabulous views and the flora and fauna are wonderful.
