About Lida Kougianou
My husband Peter and I live during the winter time in Germany. We love to return to Kefalonia and spend our summer time here in Makriotika, this picturesque little village with unique authentic Greek atmosphere and warm hospitality of the people. We have travelled a lot around the world and our dream has been to return sometime here to this beautiful place and create a Kefalonian holiday accommodation to remember. The project has been designed personally by us with careful consideration of all possible needs of our guests. Though, our aim has been to nest the property harmoniously in its unique wild-romantic environment without changing this. Since then, we concentrate our efforts on improving and enhancing the accommodation over time. Peter is a keen gardener, so he created a magnificent garden surrounding the villa with colourful Mediterranean flowers and local sweet herbs. A magical place to relax! Quite simply, "Our priority,...is Your enjoyment... ! " We invite you to to share with us the Kefalonian experience.

Super spot to explore the north of the island
Perfect for two couples or a family, the villa is located in a lovely village offering walking opportunities to Agia Effimia, and well-located to explore the north of the island by car. The villa itself is very well maintained, and tended to by the lovely hosts Lida and Peter who made sure of the little touches that make you feel welcome (goodies in fridge, all appliances, flexibility on a late checkout, tips about what to do, and all with a smile). Minor downsides - hot water sometimes turned lukewarm a bit early, and second bathroom is downstairs (and a bit dated/cramped). But the kitchen was ideal despite being compact and felt homely for cooking. Outdoors the grounds are pleasant and immaculate - not huge by any means but large enough to relax by the pool. Plus there is so much to see on the island. The village has a little tavern that is nice, and is quite easy to navigate by car once you get used to narrow streets. It is not a tourist resort, but a real village with mainly elderly residents but a sense of place and life. Taxis allow for easy trips to the coast (Agia Effimia) for dinners out. Agia Effimia also has a nice little beach with beautiful waters, and was a good place to walk to take some exercise.
thank you very much for your review and your kind words. I am glad that you have enjoyed your stay in Villa Kyparissi and sorry about the lukewarm water. I wish you would have told me this during your stay, as there has been nothing easier, as to regulate the switch accordingly. As to the bathroom downstairs, I am very happy to say that we have already planned changes for the next season (new shower cabine, shower and basin mixers, etc). Unfortunately, we can´t increase its space but hope to make it more comfortable by this way.
Thank you once again for staying with us and hope to see you again,
Lida and Peter
A beautiful villa in a fabulous setting!
If you're looking for somewhere to relax and forget about the stresses of everyday life, you need not look any further. Villa Kyparissi ticks so many boxes, it has something for everyone. Set right in amidst a friendly Greek village down a maze of tiny streets in it's own lovingly tended gardens; it's not overlooked and has gorgeous views right down the valley to Agia Efimia and the sea beyond. The thoughtfulness, care and attention to detail by the owners makes this villa a home from home and sets it well apart from the usual "resort-managed" villa - in fact it felt more like a boutique hotel with it's fluffy white towels, slippers and scented shower gels and lotions! A 5-10 minute walk down the hill takes you to the local (very welcoming) Taverna (this makes such a difference when you're tired after a long journey); a 3 minute drive gets you to the local bakery with their delicious pastries, bread and Brioche which - I'm assured - is renowned as being the best throughout the island. A 10 min easy drive will bring you to the centre of Agia Efimia with it's harbour, great selection of restaurants and facilities or, in the opposite direction, staggering views over Myrtos Beach. For our family of 2 adults and 2 older children (12 & 14) we couldn't have asked for a more convenient location or more perfect holiday home. This is our 7th year of villa holidays and, despite having thoroughly enjoyed every one, we have never returned to the same spot.....Villa Kyparissi may well prove to be the exception!!
Gorgeous with stunning views near hilltop village
We had a fabulous holiday in this gorgeous villa. The owners have really thought of everything to make guests feel totally at home and all amenities are of really good quality.
The position of the villa is amazing with stunning 360 views and such a short walk to the lovely authentic hilltop village centre and great taverna. And we loved our furry visitor (the house cat)! We’ll definitely be coming back.
Perfect once again, thank you!
This was my first stay in Villa Kyparissi , but my 5th at Lyra villas. Such a stunningly beautiful location - the views take your breath away every day. The villa is a haven of tranquility, set in this typical little village and within just a few hours it feels like you have always been there. The villa itself is set amongst beautifully planted and maintained grounds which get better on every visit. They are immaculately clean and, as all the best places, its the little touches that make the holiday special.
The hosts, Peter and Lida offer a friendly welcome, and take great pride in making sure everything is just as you would like it whilst somehow remaining out of the way and discreet at the same time.
Nearby is the stunning Myrtos beach and the small town of Agia Effimia has a number of restaurants along the harbour and around the bay beyond, whilst in the village itself, the local tavern Maklithari makes the best simple but delicious Greek food.
Will definitely be returning...but for longer next time!
Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
We have had wonderful holidays. The view to the sea is extraordinary. The owners keep the property very clean. They gave us all support we needed. We would always recommend this location. And, we are planning to come back very soon.
Many thanks to Lida & Peter for a wonderful time.
Lovely property and finished to high standard, highly recommended
The villa is very well looked after and all furnishings etc of a high standard. We loved the fact that good quality clean swimming towels provided twice a week along with the cleaning service. We went to the local taverna 4 times but the village square wasn't quite as we envisaged. Don't rely on village shop but very good facilities in Agia Efimia less than 10 mins drive. Our only complaint was the pool was very cold and steps very narrow to get in especially the top one, not suitable for young children as shallow end was up to waist height.
Overall we had a brilliant holiday and some cloudier days meant we explored more than normally do and found some lovely coves using the beach book specially provided by the owners. Would highly recommend this property and the island.
The closest beaches are within 5 min drive from Villa Kyparissi: you can go either to the famous Myrtos Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches of the Island of Kefalonia or to one of the numerous little beaches surrounding Agia Efimia with clear crystal waters, ideal for snorkelling. Or, you can rent a motorboat in Agia Efimia for a day and visit the idyllic small bays accessable only by boat. A trully unique experience!
The simplest way to come to Kefalonia is by a direct flight to the Airport of Argostoli (= EFL), approx. 1 hour drive from the Villa. If there is no direct flight from your country to Kefalonia, you can take a flight to Athens and continue your journey either by connected flight or by rental car and ferry to Kefalonia. Should you need assistance by planning your travelling to our Island, please contact us. We will be glad to assist you. A car rental is during your stay at the Villa recommended.
5 min walk to the square of Makriotika with the well known tavern "Maklithari" (popular for its good Kefalonian food and the warm hospitality of the innkeeper), a café with delicious traditional sweets a mini market & bus station to Agia Efimia & Myrtos beach.
5 min drive to the picturesque port of Agia Efimia with several small flint bays ideal for snorkelling, super-markets, bakery, cafés, taverns, pharmacy, cash station, car, motorbike and motorboat rental, diving school, ferry to Ithaca.
The village of Makriotika is situated 5km (=5 min drive) from the picturesque port of Agia Efimia, framed by high mountains, on a height of more than 200m. The Kefalonians call it "The balcony of Pylaros", as it offers indeed a fascinating view across the wide valley of Pylaros: the port of Agia Efimia, the blue Ionian sea, the surrounding high mountains and the small traditional villages. Across the water, you can see the neighbour Island Ithaca and on some days you can even make out the mountains of Peloponnes.
Makriotika is located in the centre of Kefalonia, thus it is an ideal base for exploring the Island. Here you can taste the flavour of the authentic Greek life. A nice "Platia" (village square), small red-roofed houses with flower-filled terraces, a traditional café, a friendly tavern, a mini-market, a school and, as in each Greek village, a church. In the summer, the Platia is filled with playing children, native and emigrant Kefalonians and tourists. There are numerous beaches closed to the villa offering opportunities for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving in the summer.
The location is also ideal for nature lovers and hikers:
You can walk for example to Agia Efimia. You will pass through an old traditional village, above the valley of Pylaros and facing Agia Efimia and the sea. Or you can leave the main road and take one of the several paths going through the valley to Agia Efimia. You can also walk to the beautiful monastery of Themata (approx. 4 km) which offers spectacular views. A path from the monastery leads to the top of the wild mountain of Agia Dynati and its new aeolic power park, capable to cover big part of the island' s power needs. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to visit the Bavarian Horse Riding Stables in Sami (approx. 18 km from the villa) and take part in a horse ride: a completely different way of exploring Kefalonia, by following old donkey trails with wonderful views through olive groves and fruit orchards.
