About the property

Pischiano is a former small farm, consisting of a large traditional Tuscan farmhouse, a small old farmhouse called Anna's House and a converted traditional Barn set in its own fields and woods, in a delightful setting on the slopes of the Alpe della Luna; the Mountains of the Moon, just above Sansepolcro in the upper Tiber Valley in eastern Tuscany. It is situated above a stream, surrounded by meadows and overlooks the beautiful Afra valley with views across wooded hills. We have carefully and simply restored and furnished the houses in order to retain their original character while providing comfortable accommodation all year round.

The Farmhouse and Anna's House are attached to each other (with a lockable interconnecting door), while the Barn is set apart on a lower level directly overlooking the pool. Each has its own terrace or pergola. Pischiano has an extensive area of meadow and woodland for use by guests.

Catered breaks are now available in late Spring and Autumn.

About Suzanna Hopwood

We grew to love Italy and decided 20 years ago that this was where we wanted to have our 'second home in the country' as it were.

Our children have therefore 'grown up' at Pischiano almost as much as they have done at our home in London and are, like us and like our friends, very attached to it and to the area.

We have in short created a family home which reflects the distinctive feel of a place which is much loved and which we know our guests find particularly simpatico!

Suzanna Hopwood purchased this barn in 1980

Why Suzanna Hopwood chose Sansepolcro

We loved the location, the beautiful surroundings; quiet and peaceful but not isolated and within easy reach of the village and the nearest town.

The countryside is beautiful, the local towns particularly attractive and the area has something different to offer at every season and can therefore be enjoyed all year round.

What makes this barn unique

The joy of being in a wonderful old house in an absolutely wonderful location!

In summer when temperatures in Tuscany can be quite high Pischiano is very comfortable and a refreshing retreat after a day's sight seeing. Outside: The swimming pool is solely for the use of guests and is approximately 6 metres by 5 metres. It is suitable for children because it has two "shallow" ends where the water is about 1 metre deep. There is a full range of pool and garden furniture and each house has a pergola together with barbeque equipment and external lighting. Guests can also use three hectares of pasture and woodland.

Beautiful spot in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Pischiano was a magical spot. We could swim looking at beautiful views over the valley. While walking we quickly identified over 40 types of plants, some of which we harvested for use on the barbeque. I can think of nothing that has beaten the beauty of the fireflies hovering in the grass meadow. The whole experience restored your equilibrium. We brought lots to read, but it was impossible to take your eyes off the views! On the practical side, Sansepolcro is close with a weekly market and two good supermarkets. It is well placed for trips to other towns such as Perugia or, at a pinch, Florence or Bologna. The website is a very good reflection of what you will experience.
