Bastidon des Oliviers is a large, split level property comprising a luxurious three bedroom villa with an independent two bedroom apartment on the lower level. Both dwellings are fully self-contained with private terrace space and separate entrances so both offer complete privacy to our guests. The large pool and terrace area around it are shared. For combined lets, the villa and apartment can inter-connect and are ideal for both families or groups of friends. The villa and apartment can be let separately except in peak season (late July to late August) when we only let the entire property for up to 11 people.
The property is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, less than ten minutes walk from the splendid hilltop village of Claviers, near Bargemon (voted “one of the most beautiful villages in France”). Looking in one direction you can see the village of Claviers and in the other, Bargemon. Our land is totally private with no overlooking houses and a scenic path leads from it to the village. Claviers is a lovely quiet village, virtually unchanged from it's medieval past and yet has all the conveniences you may require and a choice of bars and restaurants. Bargemon is a much larger village with a beautiful shaded square with numerous shops, bars and restaurants.
Bastidon des Oliviers is set amongst terraced olive groves in over an acre of land on a hillside with a spectacular infinity pool, enjoying glorious views over the surrounding countryside. A fabulous tranquil and secluded location, yet within easy access of the Côte d’Azur resorts, which can be quickly reached via the A8 motorway (20 minutes away). It is a 45 minute drive to Cannes or to the Gorges du Verdon, 1 hour to Nice airport or St. Tropez, and 35 minutes to the beaches at St. Raphael and Fréjus.
Bastidon des Oliviers comprises a luxurious three bedroom villa with an independent two bedroom apartment on the lower level. Both have ground floor entrances as the property is split level and the apartment is located below and to one side of the villa.

On the first floor there is a good size double bedroom, a spacious twin bedroom and a washroom/WC. Most of the villa rooms have oak beamed ceilings.

We (Jill and Ray) bought Les Chenes (property Ref 8005065) as our permanent residence in 1994. We have been renting the property out as a holiday home since 2002. We bought property ref 8004124 in 1998 with a view to renting it out as a rental home.
We live locally and actively manage our properties ourselves so they are always maintained to a high standard and we are on hand to solve any problems that may arise during the course of the rental season. When renting holiday homes for ourselves we have found that it can be a big advantage to have the owners on hand.
Jill McQueen purchased this villa in 1998
We fell in love with the area as soon as we first explored it and bought our first house near Montauroux village in 1994 as the area is very beautiful, quieter than the coastal resorts and yet has easy access to the Cote d'Azur. It is just over half an hour's drive to the coast at St Raphael/Frejus.
We bought Bastidon des Oliviers in 1998 with a view to renting it to holidaymakers. The main reason for our choice was the location of the villa within walking distance of the village of Claviers and the fabulous situation. The property is located in an acre and a half of terraced olive grove which has beautiful views over the surrounding hills and the villages of Claviers and Bargemon.
The property is conveniently located for access to the village and yet is very secluded and quiet, which is not always the case for houses located within walking distance to the village.
There are amazing views from both the villa and the apartment, which are quite separate, and the infinity pool is particularly spectacular. Looking in one direction you can see the village of Claviers and in the other, Bargemon. Our land is totally private with no overlooking houses and a quiet path leads from it to the village.

We booked the Villa and Gite for 2 weeks with our extended family of 10 people, we had a lovely relaxing holiday and it was a good base to explore Provance. The property is well away from other accommodation so we were not bothered by noise and the children could make all the noise they wanted to make. The accommodation is a bit tricky to find so make sure you follow the owners instructions on how to get there. The pool area is great with sufficient sun beds for all and the pool was a good size for all 10 of us with great views across to the surrounding hills. There is a large patio area at the front of the Villa which was ideal for having most of our meals, the gas BBQ was also easy and quick to use. There is also a boules area to the side of the Villa which we used quiet a bit and enjoyed playing a few games. We walked into Claviers quite a few times by walking up through the Olive grove and along a quiet road, it only took us 20 minutes to reach the church and main square, we ate a few times at the Cote Terrace restaurant we we found very friendly with good prices. The only negative things I can say about the accommodation is that the interior needs some modernisation and it's a bit dated, a couple of the shutters don't shut correctly, the WC's sometimes don't flush or fill up correctly and there wasn't a lot of water pressure for the showers in the Villa although the Gite was fine. Sky TV (basic package) is provided which was useful for the kids to relax particularly in the evening before bed, Wifi is provided which we found a little slow probably because of the remote location. I think the owners should consider putting air conditioning in the bedrooms as the upper rooms in the Villa particularly can get very hot when the temperatures get above 30 degrees, having said that we did manage to sleep okay with the help of the fans provided. Overall I would recommend the property to families that want to get away from the crowds, that want to stay in a peaceful location with beautiful countryside and villages/towns to visit.
Great luxury villa for the whole family. We had a fantastic week here and it worked as a great Base to explore. Thank you!
The property is so spacious, clean and private. We spent so much time at the pool with our kids and dog and made full use of the villa. The pool was big enough for the 9 of us and we spent one or 2 evenings after supper star-gazing from the deck chairs. It was an ideal base for all our excursions. We didn't want to leave. Well worth the very long journey from London. Thanks Jill and Ray.
My family and I had a wonderful time here.
The house is charming, wonderfully clean and the owners will ensure that every moment spent in it was unforgettable. The house is beautifully situated, the views are amazing and relaxing by the pool among singing birds is really nice.
There is a little village nearby with a bakery filled with delicious fresh bread, friendly locals and many other attractions. I would totally recommend this place and i would gladly return with my family and friends. Thank you for a great holiday.
We spent a week in the apartment at the end of May, with 2 small children. The location was stunning, with magnificent views around the countryside. The drive up from the main road is not for the faint hearted, but was worth it. The apartment was spotless and perfectly maintained and stocked with everything you could possibly need, from clothes pegs to lilos for the pool. The weather at this time of year was perfect for us. Sunshine, but not too hot for the kids. The short walk to the local village was definitely a highlight, with other equally pretty villages just a short drive away. The only downside was that my husband, a keen cyclist, didn't have his bike with him and I had to listen to his disappointed sighs as yet another group of cyclists whizzed by. I would highly recommend this property for a getaway that isn't too far away from everything.
Great location in hillside above Cote D'Azur coastline, so all the quiet and little restaurants of France, but able to get to Cannes, St Tropez etc. easily for days out.
The Gite itself was clean and well maintained with a great pool area. Ideal for chilling and escape from the rat race. Close to village for daily bread, but quiet and relaxing.
We thoroughly recommend.
Coast/Beach:
The villa is also within easy access of the Cote d’Azur resorts. It is a 45 minute drive to Cannes, 1 hour to Nice airport or St. Tropez, and 35 minutes to St. Raphael and Frejus. The impressive coast road from La Napoule to St. Raphael is full of dramatic scenery backed by the red, craggy mountains of the Esterel National Park. It is here you will find our nearest coastal beaches (35-40 minutes drive) with a choice of sheltered coves or glorious long sandy bays.
Travel:
A car is essential. It is one hour to Nice airport, one hour to Toulon and just over one and a half hours to Marseille.
The high speed TGV train service departing from London Waterloo takes seven hours to reach Marseille, with one quick change in Lille. You can then carry on to a local station such as Les Arcs or Draguignan.
From Calais and the channel ports, it is about a 10 hour journey to the villa, best route being the motorway.
