Cardenard is very tranquil, situated at the end of its own lane, with superb views over the valleys from its commanding position on the edge of the deep valley of the Baye. It is surrounded by farm land about 4 miles north of the unspoiled village of Verfeil-sur-Seye, which has an excellent bakery and general store. Larger towns are within easy reach. The house is our family's second home, comfortably furnished and fully equipped, it accommodates at least twelve people in the main house, with the option of four more in the cottage. This is not let separately, but is ideal as an overflow from the main house for members of the party, such as older teenagers, grandparents or an au pere, who may want to be separate. There is a large salon with an imposing fireplace and a fully equipped farmhouse kitchen with a table seating twelve. There is a 12 x 6 metre swimming pool, a large sun terrace, a pergola, shaded with vines and a barbecue.

We have owned Cardenard for over 22 years and spend as much time there as we can. During those years we have developed it with love and care. Our extended family and many friends join us and we have had many memorable house parties and holidays there. Comments in the Visitors' Book confirm that our guests and renters feel the same.

Blissful peace and comfort

In complete agreement with the previous rave reviews - we love Cardenard and this was the third visit for some of us. It is so much a real home that you feel like an honorary family member. It's great for a multi generation holiday and I hope we will be back!

A hidden treasure with breathtaking views

Our return to Cardenard was all the richer and more pleasurable for the anticipation. Few places can combine the sense of complete escape and privacy Cardenard offers with such ready access to the many delightful beauty spots of the Aveyron and surrounds and the host of markets with their rich offering of delicious local food and drink. Gracious living blended with the sense of authenticity that comes with the surrounding farm life and its various offerings. We love the variety of ‘al fresco’ options. Breakfast at the superbly placed terrace under the walnut tree that catches the morning sun and affords views in both directions of the magnificent valley on the side of which Cardenard is perched; long lazy lunches under the vine-covered pergola with views over the swimming pool to the south; drinks and dinner on what we came to think of as the sunset terrace above the pool. Like the generous and superbly equipped farmhouse kitchen, all the outside options accommodate large groups of 12 or more and make Cardenard an ideal place for holidays with extended family and friends. Everything about Cardenard says welcome and live well.

Cardenard

Cardenard is a magical place. It's the sort of house you read about in a novel and long to visit. This year will be our third holiday there and I can't think of anywhere else we would rather go. The well-equipped house and grounds are set in beautiful countryside which is superb for walking and cycling. Much of our time there has been spent reading or writing (or sleeping!) in the shade of the trees, swimming in the large pool or playing table tennis in the open barn. Evenings often began with drinks watching the sun go down over the fields and then we'd all have supper around the big table which is under a canopy of vines.

If you do want to go out for the day, the surrounding area is packed with interesting towns and villages (Albi, St Antonin, Courdes etc); and the local markets are excellent for wine, cheese and bread.

A holiday in Cardenard will stay with you for a long time.

Cardenard

This was not the first time we have spent time at Cardenard with family and friends. As ever it was a delightful experience enjoyed by young and old alike. The mornings started on the breakfast terrace overlooking the valley with fresh croissants from the local boulangerie. Days were spent lounging round the pool or exploring the local countryside which is rural France at its best. The house is charming and left an impression on all who were there. This is not some purpose built holiday let but a home made available to be enjoyed.

Car: necessary

Travel:

By air to Toulouse and Rodez airports, which are about an hour and a half away;

Trains from Paris to Caussade, which is about 45 minutes away.

By road on autoroutes to the A20 (exit at Caussade) takes about 10 hours from Calais and 8/9 hours from the Normandy ports.

A car is essential.

Distances:

Verfeil-sur-Seye, is about 5 minutes drive. Villefranche de Rouergue is about 40 minutes drive. The historic towns and sites of Albi, Najac, Cordes, Penne, Bruniquel, St Antonin-Noble-Val and many more are all under an hour's drive.

Further Details:

Verfeil has an excellent bakery and general store and garage. All major shopping can be had in Villefranche de Rouergue. There are many restaurants in the area, ranging from the very fine to the local small family-run restaurants, all listed, with comments, in the Cardenard restaurant book. There are spectacular walks all around, a tennis court in Verfeil and many attractions in the area, including canoeing on the Aveyron.

Booking Notes:
Prices are for one week in UK pounds and include cleaning on a Saturday, linen and bath towels (swimming towels are not provided), electricity, gas, local telephone calls and wood for fires. Rates for other weeks and for stays longer than a fortnight are negotiable. Rates for inclusion of the cottage (which is not let separately) are up to £250 per week. One third deposit secures a booking, with balance payable eight weeks before the letting commences.

Changeover Day:
Saturday to Saturday (flexible depending on season and other lets); arrival from 5pm and departure from the house by 9 am, to enable the house to be cleaned.
