Overview

About the property

3 bedroom cosy three storey house, sleeps 6, 2k from sea and Megalithic temples

Il Musbieh is in the tranquil village of Qrendi, one of the few remaining traditional villages in the south of Malta. With narrow winding streets, both our house and the village offer the perfect antidote for visitors who want to get away from it all and enjoy the timeless, traditional Maltese way of life.

The house is a renovated 19thC home full of traditional stone features, cosy, contemporary furnishings and 21st C technology including a new AC system. On the ground floor is an open plan reception/study area, sitting area, fully equipped Shaker-style kitchen, utility area and a large family bathroom. On the first floor are the master bedroom with 6ft bed and small ensuite; an external patio for breakfast in the sun; and a second double bedroom with ensuite. The third bedroom on the second floor is a barumbara (dove cote) with ensuite shower room and spiral staircase to the roof with panoramic views of Malta. There is also a terrace for sunbathing and eating al fresco.

You can also sunbathe on the roof on our sun loungers. The external spaces are not overlooked so the house is very private.

Hollywood star Brad Pitt and his family rented a property in Qrendi, the Guarena Palace, during the filming of his zombie movie World War Z in summer 2011.

It is also one of Malta's friendliest villages where all the residents are helpful and welcoming.

About The Owner

I lived in Malta until I was 11 - a most wonderful, 'golden' childhood spending most of my time either in or by the sea. I have always retained a very strong emotional tie to this quirky island and we bought our first property in 2007 with a view to retiring here.

The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 2010

Why The Owner chose Island of Malta

We love Il Musbieh's character, the warmth and friendliness of our Maltese neighbours and its location close to the sea, country walks and the ancient temples.

But guests must be aware that it is an old property with many of the quirks associated with 19th buildings and a damp island climate.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great house, plenty of space and very comfortable! We also thought the location was fantastic, perfect for Hagar Qim and the Blue Grotto. Very easy to get to Valletta and we'd highly recommend a visit to Birgu too. Malta has an extraordinary history and we really enjoyed exploring its heritage. Goz is also lovely, very pretty and we had a good quick tour and swim which we managed easily in a day trip from here.

Perfect for enjoying a quiet break in Malta

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely property, very comfortable. Four of us stayed, bags of room, the property was clean, tidy and well maintained. All was as described in the listing. Qrendi is a quiet place, and served as an ideal place from which we explored the island. The blue grotto and Hagar Qim temples are very close by, but even if you are heading north of the island to go and see Comino for example, if you have a car it is easy to get to and doesn't take that long. The local shop provided most things you would need and we found it useful. Christiane was very helpful and I have to say is very responsive to even the most minor of queries... extremely helpful. The week we stayed in August coincided with the local fiestas, which added to the visit for us. A very enjoyable visit... and sad to have had to come home.

Wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

We did have high expectations of our holiday in this house but they were surpassed the moment we entered the door. The house is an absolute delight. We were able to relax and enjoy the extensive accommodation from the moment we arrived. The pictures do not do the house justice; it feels spacious and there are plenty of places to find a corner to read or just chill out. Malta is somewhere we might be coming back to. A car is recommended; there are wonderful beaches but best got to by one's own transport. I would give some of the more touristy places a miss but Valletta is worth popping into for a day out. If we do come back then we would certainly consider coming back to this property.

A fantastic week

  • 5 of 5

I would like to say a huge thank you for the use of your home in Qrendi. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time. I do not feel the photos on the website do your house justice. We loved it. Qrendi is a lovely town and all the locals are lovely and extremely helpful.

I will definately be returning in the very near future.

Lots of lovely bays to visit, especially Ghar Lapsi.

Thanks

Tina & Gary Scott and family.

Extrem freundliche Vermieterin und süße Unterkunft

  • 5 of 5

Qrendi has a population of 2,500 and is surrounded by fields and a beautiful coastal road for walking and cycling. Within 2k are the World Heritage Sites of Hagar Qim ('HA-jar eem') and Mnajdra, the best-preserved Megalithic limestone temples in Malta dating back to c. 3600 to 3200 BC. Qrendi retains many other links with the past including a 17thC octagonal tower in Triq-it-Torri (Tower Street) - just 100 metres from the house - built by the Knights of St John to protect the area from marauders.

Qrendi celebrates its main, week-long festa in mid August. This is a religious festival with musical performances, processions, street parties, fireworks and pyrotechnic exhibitions.

Qrendi is walking distance from the Blue Grotto, a world-famous natural grotto with a neighbouring system of caverns that mirror the brilliant phosphorescent colours of the underwater flora as well as a number of good value restaurants and cafes overlooking the sea.

This is also a good spot for swimming and sunbathing, as is Ghar Lapsi, a few kilometres further north.

The popular fishing port of Marsaxlokk and the historic Three Cities are 15 minutes away by car.

More info about Il Musbieh and cleaning: The house is fully furnished and equipped as a family home rather than a holiday let. Its contemporary furnishings add a modern twist to the 19th C traditional Maltese stone features but reflect the character and quirkiness of the property.
As our neighbours are a mix of elderly people and families with young children, we welcome families and groups who will both respect our home and our neighbours. Il Musbieh is not a 'party' house but a place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional Maltese village.
