About Georgie Hunt
Our villa is family owned by three couples who all live in Southampton. We try to visit as much as we can and we all enjoy the peace and quiet of the villa when we are there. We have tried to make this a lovely holiday home which we and our visitors can enjoy. We have been very lucky that families who have visited have also taken care of it and it is in just as good condition as when we bought it. We deal with all the bookings and we have two lovely lady property managers who are on hand if you need them during your stay. They speak fluent English.
Georgie Hunt purchased this Villa in 2005
Why Georgie Hunt chose Barrocal
It was found by one couple travelling along the Algarve. They stopped for a coffee in Altura and happened to be next door to an estate agent. They went in for a chat and were taken to see the villa which was under construction. The urbanization is lovely and quiet yet within walking distance of the shops and restaurants. They loved the fact that the Eastern Algarve is quieter and more traditional with less high-rise properties than the western region. The beach has lovely golden sands which stretch for miles. We love to walk along the beach to Monte Gordo. If you like golf then there and at least four golf courses within 15 minutes' drive. You don't even have to bring your own golf clubs as they can be hired (pre-booking required) from €35 per week at Faro airport.
What makes this Villa unique
We love the fact that we can sit by the pool and read a book without being disturbed by a lot of noise. There is always somewhere to sit in the shade as the villa is on a corner plot. The balconies enable you to sit quietly with a cool drink if you don't want to be splashed by the kids in the pool! If you want to explore the area it is only a short drive into the countryside or even into Spain across the Guardiana river by car or the foot ferry. Why not visit Altura and see for yourselves what a lovely area it is.

We are just home after 2 fabulous weeks in Villa Calige. Everything about the villa was perfect. We only had 1 tiny issue when we arrived a quick email to Georgie and it was sorted immediately.
Close by Monte Gorde has a beautiful promenade for great morning walks. Tavira is a beautiful town about 20 mins drive away, close by Altura has everything u need for your stay. Over the Spanish border which is only a 10 min drive away is the most beautiful coastal town of Ayamonte which is well worth a visit. All in all a wonderful villa to holiday in. We will hopefully return.
Car hire definitely recommended.
Thank you for all your help Georgie

Many thanks for your review Kenneth. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay.
We (family of 3 adults) stayed at Calige during early June 18. Unfortunately, the weather during our stay was cool and breezy with a lot of broken cloud. Nevertheless, we made good use of the swimming pool when the sun broke through, usually for a period each day. In areas around the pool, protected from the breeze, it could get quite hot. The pool was clean and well maintained as were the lawns and surrounding paved areas. Whilst neighbours were quite close we never heard them and enjoyed a high level of privacy around the pool. The house was spacious, well equipped, nicely decorated and with good quality furniture, we particularly liked the large comfy sofas in the living room and separate TV room. The large kitchen dining, living, area was a comfortable retreat when the weather was less kind. The internet connection was by a mobile router dongle. Unfortunately, at times the reception was unpredictable and connectivity patchy. The main draw to this area is undoubtedly the miles of magnificent beach, fine sand and very clean. But the small towns are also very interesting and distinctly Portuguese, less touristy than those to the west of the Algarve. Well worth a visit are Vila Real SA - nice square and promenade, Castro Marim - castle, Tavira – old and original town on a river side, and Monte Gordo with its new board walk along the beach. Also make a border/river crossing to the distinctly Spanish town of Ayamonte. We would recommend Don Rodrigo restaurant (just up the road and beside the railway – approximately ¾ mile from Calige) – good food excellent service and reasonable prices.
Thank you John for your positive review and although the weather wasn't kind to you at times you enjoyed your stay. We haven't been to Don Rodrigo restaurant but will certainly try it next time we are there.

The villa was even more amazing than what the photos show! I couldnt believe how spacious it was and the pool was a perfect size. I would definitely recommend and will definitely be booking again although i would recommend hiring a car as suggested to me by the owner but we didnt as we enjoy walking but in 38 degree heat i wish i took her advise.also the hospitality shown by the owner was very appreciated 10/10

Altura beach with its miles of sand is 2km away. Many more within a 15-minute drive.
Faro Airport 40 minutes' drive, Seville Airport 90 minutes, both on the motorway. Car hire is strongly recommended and is available pre-booked to collect from the airport.
Tavira 15kms. Monte Gordo and Castro Marim 10 minutes' drive. Vila Real de Santo Antonio 15 minutes' drive with Spain across the Guadiana River. Seville 1.5 hours' drive.
