Owner run Chalet Shufu is an ideal winter or summer holiday chalet for families or groups of up to 15 in all ensuite bedrooms. Guests in Winter enjoy a varied 3 courses with 'free' flowing wines / beers, coffee and chocolates to finish. Flavoursome dishes guaranteed to excite! as well as traditional home-cooking and local specialities. In Summer B&B guests may choose to take dinner in the chalet whenever they wish.
Super location getting sunshine all day we are a short walk to the small resort centre of St Jean d'Aulps with its shops, bars and restaurants.
For guests in Winter we have an outside barrel sauna with views over the river to the mountains.
We are a half English / half Chinese family that live at Chalet Shufu all year round and enjoy very much looking after guests from all over the world that we have come to stay !
Stuart purchased this chalet in 2003
We have a resident chef from Sichuan who is able to serve dishes certain to be new and to excite as well as having perfected classic dishes (some with an oriental twist!).
In Winter we operate a minibus service to / from a choice of ski-lifts. We take you from the door right to the lift and pick you up again at a pre-arranged time or upon a call from your mobile.
"We wanted to say a HUGE Thank You to you all for making our holiday with you one to remember. It is way up there as one of the best holidays we have ever experienced! If the not THE best! We are already missing Manza's cooking!! - We didn't want for anything and couldn't have been made to feel more comfortable. Thank you for always being so accommodating; we really felt very spoilt. There are too many highlights to list! Staying with you at Chalet Shufu is definitely going to be an annual trip for us now - we cant wait to come back!"
Rachel C. - West Sussex
"Wanted to say a massive thank you from the whole Davies family for yet another incredible holiday spent in your wonderful chalet. Once again the food, the service, the company were all spot on. Can’t wait to come back for a fourth time soon!"
The Davies Family - Milton Keynes
"We just wanted to thank you both for welcoming us so warmly to chalet shufu. Your hospitality, food and friendly atmosphere made our stay exceptional and we very much look forward to coming back again next time. After all your hard work we hope you have a relaxing summer and nice long break."
Sarah B. - Surrey
"Thanks for a great week in your chalet. Everyone’s been raving about your service and food. We’ll pass around your details to friends that go skiing and would be happy to be quoted on your site or put something on Trip Advisor. It will take us a while to work out any plans for next year, as the half term holiday is different in Hull and Scarborough and we haven’t established when the school holidays are at Easter."
Martin S. - Hull
Shufu apparently means comfy in English and its an apt name for this family run Chalet with excellent hospitality and some of the best food I've eaten on holiday anywhere.
It is situated a little way from the main slopes of the massive and varied Porte Du Soleil Ski area but the owners include a minibus transfer to and from the main lifts at times to suit all the guests - so its only 10 minutes or so. The little extras like loading and unloading your skis, arranging free help from a local garage, free flowing wine and beer in the evenings, kids well looked after with their own meals and play areas in the garden and TV room - nothing was too much trouble.
We had a ground floor family room with adjoining bunk bed area closed off by another door. It had a nice terrace area facing the garden and a large ensuite shower room with an excellent power shower. The kids were happy and comfortable and so were we.
Everything is setup for a sociable week and I'd recommend this to families, couples, singles and groups alike. If we decide to go elsewhere in the future it will have to go a long way to improve our experience here.
Ski area wise - you could be forgiven for thinking the resort is a little low. However, I was surprised at how much skiing was available at high altitude - and how accessible it was. We were a mixed ability group and we could all enjoy runs from the top back to the various villages. But even with some lower runs not opened it didn't feel restricted. It was open at the top during the extremely difficult Xmas time (when many other resorts couldn't open) with the worst start to a ski season since 1962 apparently. It was busy as expected during New Year but not all day and not every day either.
