This three storey house is just 4 kms south of Gennadi with a long garden leading from a large patio with a pergola for shade directly onto a wide, secluded beach with spectacular views. There are sea-view balconies to every room with the studio apartment having 2 very large ones, one with a bamboo-topped pergola for shade, with a 300 degree panorama of the sea and surrounding countryside. A substantial paved area to the front and side of the house will contain several cars. Gennadi can be reached by walking either along a pleasant country road or along the wide, quiet beach. The whole area has retained its Greek identity with subtle tourism. It is perfect for hill-walking, cycling and for those who like the countryside, with tourist facilities close by in Pefkos and Lindos.

About Christine Harris
Christine is a retired teacher. Keith retired from his job as a teacher of Academic English in September 2103, when we are both going to spend more time in the villa off season. We will spend time making our lovely garden there even more enchanting and Keith will have more time to devote to creative writing and hopes to sell more of his books online. We live in Loughborough in Leicestershire. Christine has triplet grandchildren aged 3 and a half who we look after a lot. We are learning Greek now so that we can communicate with our Greek friends in Gennadi in their language. We are both borough councillors and Christine is going to be Mayor of Charnwood from May 2018.
Christine Harris purchased this Villa in 2004
Why Christine Harris chose South Aegean
We visted Rhodes twice and hired a car both times to tour round the south of the island. The first time we went past the site of the house we saw similar houses further down and Christine said that it would be lovely to have a place there. The next time we saw a sign with a telephone and the rest is history. We loved the peace of the area and the fact that you can walk down the garden to the beach. Gennadi and all the other villages in the area except Kiotari are totally unglobalised and tenaciously Greek. We value the fact that we are away from the tourist crowds but that we can join the fun and enjoy the facilities when we choose.
What makes this Villa unique
There are very few properties in the area offering direct access to the beach. The beach stretches for miles in both directions and is virtually private, as only a few renters in surrounding villas and the locals are ever on it. There is a cool beach bar on the beach within 15 minutes' walk. Another lovely village, Lachania is only 10 minutes' drive away.

A little piece of heaven
We stayed here for 10 days on our honeymoon with our children and it was amaizing. The property is of a high standard, clean and comfortable. We didn't arrive till very late Sunday night, and the housekeeper, Christos, had kindly stocked the fridge and shelves with provisions (was most grateful for a cold beer after the hours drive from the airport in the dark). The garden is beautifully and stretches down to an almost deserted beach (in July). The sea does go quite deep so young children do need to take extra care, but we had no problems and my boys loved snorkeling there.
The rest of the island is beautiful. The beaches to the north do get very busy but most are still very pleasant. The drive south is still on the whole unspoilt, as are the mountain villages.
Thank you so much for allowing us to use your amaising property, its given us memory's we'll never forget.
Villa Socrates,Rhodes: July 2017
Our 5th visit to Villa Socrates and the location of this property cannot be beaten. You can either sun yourself on the beach in your back garden or visit one of the many excellent beaches close by. We can recommend Haraki, Agathi, Pefkos, Glystra and the beach at Mojitos bar. We love to eat at Haraki beach bar, Flyers (at Pefkos), Mama's kitchen in Gennadi, Klimis taverna at Gennadi beach, Mojitos bar (down the road from the villa) as well as the restaurant at Pilmiri beach. St Paul's beach close to Lindos also well worth a visit (lovely restaurant as well, and there is often a wedding at the chapel) BUT many tourists so arrive very early. Same goes for Anthony Quinn beach.
A Beach to yourself!
We have just returned from a wonderful 10 day break at this villa. The villa itself is lovely with wonderful views over the sea and to the mountains at the back. As advised you do need a car to get around, to be honest,we found this to be a bonus as it is too easy to keep visiting the same eating place when they are on your doorstep. We ate out in tavernas on the coast and up in the mountains and all were friendly with great food.
We had the beach more or less to ourselves each day, the most people we counted were six and they were way in the distance. So if you like crowds and noise then this is not for you..... heaven!
The village of Gennadi nearby has your basic supplies and a wonderful bakery as well as good eating places and small bars.
Thankyou for a lovely stay!
Very relaxing and stress free!!
The villa was lovely and clean. Bigger than we'd expected with a good sized open plan living space. It was so nice being able to walk down to the beach in seconds. The beach really is empty and beautiful! Sea warm and calm. We loved the outdoor shower in the garden so much that we hardly used the indoor one!
The garden is beautiful. Keith and Christine have obviously put a lot of time into it!
It was definitely essential to have a car. We hired ours from Savvos, which Keith sorted out for us. It was really easy and cheaper than other companies.
The kitchen was well equipped and Gennadi has a lovely bakery, grocers and supermarket so no need to look elsewhere for shopping.
We enjoyed exploring mountain villages and there are plenty of sea sports if that's what you're looking for. We spent a day at the water park near Rhodes town which was well worth a trip. It cost €24 each. There was lots to do there and it was fairly quiet.
I would highly recommend this villa if you want a lovely peaceful haven.
Also Christos who looks after it for Keith and Christine was delightful! He was really helpful and went out of his way to make sure we had a good time.
A Peaceful Paradise
I have enjoyed many holidays in this villa with my husband and sometimes with my daughter that I can't imagine not visiting at least once a year. It is a peaceful retreat away from the 'rat race', next to the sea and amongst a most gorgeous setting near to mountains and small friendly villages. The island has many 'secrets' that can be unveiled and explored by hiring a car, although the villa is on a bus route. A drive to the mountains in the evening is wonderful to experience the amazing sunsets and little churches dotted around the rural landscape. An easy stroll through the beautiful villa garden guides you down to the tranquil beach where most of the time you could be on your own! It is my idea of a perfect holiday but you must try it for yourself!
a Blissful sea and sand holiday
I highly recommend Villa Socrates. We have been coming to Villa Socrates since 2005 and will certainly continue to return. First it was only for a week, then 10 days, and the last time for 18 days! We love staying at the villa. The direct access to the beach for an early morning swim (or any other time of day) is a wonderful bonus - and the outside shower on the path back to the house is a great idea. The garden is lovely with plenty of areas to relax. At night there is little light pollution, so star-gazing and satellite spotting on the beach or from one of the balconies are favorite activities! The location is excellent - private enough but also close enough to everything. There are numerous restaurants and beaches within close proximity, so you don't have to spend a long time in the car to get to a beach or a restaurant. our favorite beaches: Glistra and Pefkos (great for children). But if you want to explore, there are many places to go to - even wineries! And if you can fit it in, a day-trip to the island Simi (from Rhodes harbour) is a very nice outing. Most of the surrounding villages are very Greek, so you don't feel like you are in a "tourist trap". That said, everyone can understand English so communication is not a problem.
Coast/Beach: The beauty of this property is its position next to the beach, which is almost private because access from the road is very limited to passing traffic. It is used mainly by residents if at all. The 10 kilometre sweep of Gennadi Bay is magnificent with views to Kiotari and Pefkos. The beach is sand and pebble. It is ideal for beachcombing. The sea is clean with a Green Flag award and is suitable for swimming for most of the year. Travel: The only airport is an hour by car. Car hire is strongly recommended and can be arranged by the owners if clients wish. There is a regular bus service from Gennadi. Distances: Rhodes enjoys 300 days of sun per year. It is an island full of historical and archeological interest. The island narrows at this point to 22kms across to the beautiful west coast. It is about 6kms to Kiotari, 17kms to lively Pefkos and 22kms to the famous tourist centre of Lindos. It is 24kms to Prassonissi in the south where the Mediterranean and the Aegean Seas meet spectacularly. Further Details: Gennadi is well appointed for post office, supermarkets, bakery, cafes, bars, wi-fi cafes and tavernas. A Bureau de Change is also available in high season. Further facilities are available in Kiotari and the pretty village of Lardos (13kms). All of these are accessible by bus from Gennadi. The interior of the island is very close with easy access to thoroughly Greek villages like Vati, Messanagros, Apollakia and Arnitha. Monolithos Castle in on the west coast. We love Platanos taverna in Vati where Kostas cooks us special dishes not on the menu as we are veggie. The veg is grown by his wife and grandma cooks as well and makes the stuffed vineleaves - dolmades. We also love Angelaki tavern just north of Gennadi which is run by a brother and sister who grow their own veg. Turkey and various Greek islands including Symi and Karpathos are easily accessible on a daily basis. Other sailing activities are available on the island. There are theme parks and the unique Valley of the Butterflies within 45 mins by car. Rhodes Old Town is a World Heritage Site. Prassonissi is a famous water sports centre in the south only 20 minutes away from our villa.
