Incredible 10 day stay in this spacious yet cozy farmhouse with a view to die for!! Nothing like having your morning coffee or evening wine over looking the pool and the rolling hills beyond ablaze with yellow sunflowers waving hello in the steady velvet breeze!! This home is thoughtfully well stocked with everything you need to eat and serve beautiful meals! The owners are a delightful and interesting couple always ready to offer superb advice about local events, places to see and things to do! In short it's perfection!!
Fantastic, Relaxing, Idyllic, Rural, get away from it all location.
We have to admit we do not usually go to a place more than twice (apart from a certain place in Corfu made it 3 times) This was our 3rd time to Vos to stay with the wonderful host's Anna & Ali and it certainly will not be the last time here. We have stayed 3 times in the 3 bed Gite and have been fortunate enough to look around the others over the years.
Anna & Ali are most pleasant helpful and friendly a host as you can imagine, there if you need them for anything, and leave you alone if that's what you want. they keep the facilities beautiful and immaculate, and the pool area is Ali's pride and joy and no wonder. The website picture does not do the pool area justice with it's totally walled and security gated area, the sun is on the pool from dawn to dusk and the temperature of the water seems to stay at around 26 degrees all the time. The Gites are more than adequate in size and comfort facilities with enough crockery to feed an army let alone the number of guest's per Gite. All have fridge freezers, washing machines, oven and hobs, microwaves.
This location is perfect for a relaxing get away from it all holiday, you are totally surrounded by beautiful countryside and fields, over the last 3 years we have had maize, corn and this year sun flowers growing in the neighbouring fields. The nearest Super U (supermarket) at Villebois Lavalette is about a 15 min drive virtually everything you need can be purchased here with a new build Pharmacie just next door. Or by going in the opposite direction to Vertilliac again about 15 min drive you can shop like a local using all the local shops and visit the Emporium (Aladdin's Cave) for some totally unexpected items that you may or may not need.
A place to visit Oradour-sur-Glane it's about an hour and half drive but well worth the trip (please look this up on Google prior) the place is a time capsule to 1944, stunning and eary is the best way to describe, Free entry is the extra bonus, don't forget your camera.
As we have been before and find the relaxing, charming atmosphere of the host's and surroundings more than enough we do not tend to travel to far out, but there is plenty to do if that is what you desire. Just please remember to leave the place as you find it, we want to go back and enjoy some more quality relaxing time, not have it spoilt.
Who is the site suitable for? ANYBODY that wants a chilled relaxing holiday.
What a beautiful house the views are wonderful. So quiet. You have everything you need and more. The house was very clean and well maintained. Anna & Ali are a lovely couple we are both so pleased to meet them. We also know we will see them again. Chez Fred restaurant is a most. Riberac market is always good. So many place to visit. I would recommend this to friends. Thank you Anna & Ali for our lovely holiday.
We loved this place. A beautiful farmhouse in a quiet and beautiful location with stunning views and a fabulous swimming pool.
We spent our time canoeing and swimming in the River Dronne half an hour drive away, sunbathing and playing vollyball on the man-made beaches by the river, playing tennis on the courts 10 mins drive from the farmhouse, and visiting the nearby French towns and villages.
We had 10 days and wished we'd had at least another week. One of my my most relaxing and family fun holidays ever.
The owners are very nice people - helpful and unintrusive.
We will definitely consider coming back.
At Arcachon on the coast, about 2 hours away, is the Dune du Pyla, the highest sand dune in Europe.
The beach at Royan is approximately 80 minutes drive.
There is a beautiful man made beach at Aubeterre (about 15 minutes drive), suitable for swimming and there is also canoeing and horse riding.
There is a large lake with beaches at La Jemaye (about 30 minutes drive) which has many attractions, (including pedalos) and restaurants as well as being suitable for swimming.
It is approx 80 mins drive from Bordeaux airport, 60 mins drive from Bergerac airport, 2 hrs from Poitiers airport and 2 hrs from Limoges airport (car hire at the airports can be arranged at time of booking your flights). 7 hrs drive from the port of St. Malo. Angoulême is 40mins drive and the TGV (high speed) train from Paris (also departs from Terminal 2, Charles de Gaulle Airport) takes around 3 hrs to Angoulême station (car hire opposite).
This property is ideally located close to a rural hamlet in the vicinity of the towns of Verteillac, Ribérac, Villebois Lavalette and Mareuil. It offers a very peaceful holiday and yet has easy access to local amenities. At St. Paul Lizonne (10 mins drive) there is a Mini Golf (18holes). Indoor swimming, cinemas, go-karting and 10 pin bowling at Angouleme, 35 mins drive. Further afield is Futuroscope, situated near Poitiers, 2 hours drive. There is something to suit everybody's interest in the Dordogne, e.g. close by is the renowned nature reserve of Les Tourbières Site de Vendoire with its nature museum and restaurant. Here you can take leisurely country walks, hire boats or fish. Golf, tennis, horse-riding, canoeing, 10-pin bowling, go-karting and mountain-biking are all within easy reach. A good variety of shops, supermarkets and banks are all within easy reach at nearby Verteillac, Ribérac, Aubeterre, St. Severin, Villebois Lavalette and Mareuil. Even the small, tranquil village of Champagne et Fontaine, just a few minutes drive, boasts an excellent small self-service grocer's shop, boulangerie, post office and pub/tabac. Here you can sit outside in the pretty, little square, sample a glass of the local Charente speciality Pineau and absorb the friendly atmosphere. Those who enjoy the bustling French markets will find plenty to choose from, with the renowned Friday market at Riberac being one not to be missed! Also, there are many fêtes, night markets & festivals going on throughout the summer.
The capital of the Dordogne, which is still referred to by the locals by its original name of Périgord, is Perigueux. This, the historical towns of Aubeterre, Nontron, Brantôme and the Charente town of Angoulême are all well worth a visit. There are 1001 châteaux in the Périgord, as well as caves with prehistoric paintings to be visited. Périgordian cuisine is world-renowned for its 'foie gras', truffles and confit de canard.
There are many interesting historical and archaeological sights to see and this property is a perfectly situated base to explore from. Or you can simply relax round the pool with a glass or 2 of the local vin rouge! In any case you will have an enjoyable holiday here in France where you are assured of a warm Scottish welcome from the owners.
