About April

We love our house in this small, quiet village in the south of France. We have enjoyed building the house that started out with dirt floors, no roof to speak of, falling down stone walls, no electricity or water - it was an old remise (barn). From the ruin it is now a cherished "mas" in the village.

We hope you will enjoy staying at La Remise as much as we do. The house is well equipped with fine French furniture mixed with more contemporary pieces. It is very comfortable, with a fully equipped kitchen, a stone BBQ on the terrace, a view across the fields to the Cevennes mountains, and private pool and garden. It is a sancutary in the midst of many sites within an hour's drive. And where else can you see so many shooting stars and bird races overhead.

Why April chose Anduze - Cevennes Piemont

Watching the sunsets over the mountains and the star filled skies convinced us that this was for us! And finding beautiful antiques from the area and artwork that has a special meaning has helped us think about the area every time we are there. And of course the people are friendly and welcoming to say nothing of the food, wine and the light (and sun)!

What makes this villa unique

We know that it is sometimes difficult to rely on the web description of the house, its contents and environment surrounding the holiday house. And sometimes the photos are positioned in such a way as to show only that segment of the house or grounds that omit the bit less enticing, or the kitchen is listed as being "fully equipped" when it really is missing necessary items.

We hope that, should you let our house, you will find that there are no missing bits from either the kitchen, the garden, pool, the house or anything else we have reported as being in great or better order and present.

We welcome your enquiry and your review of what previous guests to La Remise have said to assure you that you are making the right choice to let our house for your holiday.

Bonnes Vacances!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you both - you are wonderful hosts and La remise is a fabulous family holiday home. Fresh baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolat from the Epicerie in the village was a treat. We loved Uzes and the Cevennes National Park. A week was not long enough - we will stay longer next time.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: La Remise has full central heating. There are also two large fireplaces to complement the heating. Each room has a fan while the kitchen, lounge/salon, 2 bedrooms have fixed ceiling fans. There are also lots of undefined space in the house. For example, in addition to the kitchen/dining area, lounge, bedrooms and library, there is a large hallway/anti room outside the bedrooms on the upper floor and a long hallway alongside the library. And there is a private sitting area outside the entry to the house as well as several sitting areas around the pool or on the balconies leading from two of the bedrooms. Games are available for all ages. And there is a comprehensive library, just bring a book, read it, and leave it. A baby cot and high chair can be provided. We love our house and hope that you will also. If you want a quality house/experience with excellent amenities - all in great condition - you will like our house. Outside: The secure front and rear gardens are a mixture of shrubs, bamboo, vines, roses, local trees and a lawn. The four by 8 metre pool is totally private. The pool is unheated. There are ample loungers, garden chairs and a round hand painted table for al fresco dining. Terrace has a full size table (2x1 meters) and chairs for outdoor meals and a glass of wine to watch the sun set over the mountains - and also watch the birds race above @8.45pm each evening in the summer. The sunsets are really magnificent - honest! The traditional French game of boules can be enjoyed in the garden (full set is supplied). There is an easy to use barbecue complete with all tools and equipment - just supply the charcoal. I know you have heard it before but our house is clean, the furnishings are antique (except the beds and mattresses of course) and La Remise is totally renovated - there was nothing but a roof and walls when we arrived--and the floor was dirt! And today it is beautiful and complete. Utility Room: No utility room but, there is a piano in the sitting room/lounge. There is a washing machine in the kitchen. House is stone - floors on ground floor are composed of old traditional tiles and the first floor is combination of hardwood and tile flooring Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning service is provided before and after each stay. All linen, including hand, bath and pool towels are provided. Interim cleaning service may be available by arrangement with the house manager. Other: Library, off of the lounge has books, sofa, large farm table / desk and view of mountains, vineyards and pool. There is WiFi and free phone to land lines in Europe and elsewhere. A barbecue and teak table and chairs on terrace.

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at La Remise for 3 weeks and what a wonderful time we have had. We’ve visited Arles, Nimes, Avignon and Uzes and other wonderful towns and villages. We’ve swum in the river Gardon and the river Rhone and canoed under the Pont du Gard. We’ve been to Uzes market and Bric and Brac sales. We’ve shopped and been sight-seeing and enjoyed wonderful meals. We’ve eaten fresh pain au raisin from the village epicerie, chilled at home in the pool, we’ve barbecued, cooked and enjoyed the quiet and the books. Best of all, we’ve reconnected as a family and have enjoyed many evenings playing uno, skip-bo, checkers, pictionery and all the other family games provided. Thank you April and Larry for the most fantastic 3 weeks. La Remise is beautiful. We love the style, the class, the wide range and variety of beautiful pictures and art, the beams, the stone, the solid quality French furniture. Wonderful location with so much to do in the area. We've taken our holidays in France for the past 10 years, and La Remise is our best yet.

Fabulous place for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 days at La Remise in August and had a fantastic time. The house is exactly as described with a fantastic setting and a huge amount of space inside. Despite 30C+ temperatures outside the thickness of the walls meant it was cool and airy inside. Sitting on the patio watching the sunset over the Cevenne mountains was exactly as described.

With Avignon, Nimes and the Med less than an hour away there is so much to do, or you can just relax and enjoy the pool.

The owners were great to deal with, the local agent was just a call or text away if needed and I've been recommending it to everyone as a great place to rent!

The best sort of therapy

  • 5 of 5

A lovely and extremely well equipped villa within reach of so many interesting places to visit; beaches, mountains, historic towns, markets and the Camargue. That's if you can bear to leave the hypnotically relaxing view and the wonderful pool! We've just come back from a three generation family holiday at La Remise and there was something for everyone in this lovely but somewhat overlooked part of southern France.

Absolutely Superb!

  • 5 of 5

We loved La Remise from the moment we got there. What an amazing job the owners have done, they have a beautiful home, with everything and more you need to enjoy your holiday.

Swimming in the pool looking at the mountains, the awesome sunsets, dinner on the terrace we could go on, this is unquestionably the best house we have rented to date. The area is great too, so many activities and places to visit within a small radius - great holiday wish we were still there

A Beautiful Home in Southern France

  • 5 of 5

La Remise is a home built from the foundation of an old barn designed to look as though it were there forever. The design, with stone walls inside and out, succeeds in this objective. And yet it has every modern convenience. WiFi , TV, sound system. A lovely piano and library. Pool. We have visited twice, this time for about 2 weeks, taking day trips to Avignon, the Rhone for a wine tasting day and lunch at Entre Vignes et Garrigue ( not to miss!), Uzes (twice for the greatest market ever) , Aix en Provence for the sheer beauty of it. And we also took in nearly every small village within 1/2 hour by car of Aigremont. Dinners mostly at "home," as it's easy to feel that way about La Remise. Imagine having a glass of wine while looking at the valley's vineyards watching breathtaking sunsets over the Cevanne mountains. Ok! I'm relaxed again just remembering it!

We never realized that la Remise was a birdwatcher’s paradise until a lovely guest from the summer of 2016 told us the treasure trove of birds he watched from our terrace – “We were fascinated by the amount of birds in the garden and surrounding area including Rollers Short toed and Booted eagles along with Lesser and common Kestrels. You have Scopes owls in the big tree and Bee Eaters fly over every evening we were there! We also saw Montagues Harrier down the road over the Vineyard.”

There is a piano in the sitting room/lounge.
