We came to Menorca in the early '80's with our children to learn to sail. Merdeka was then a complete ruin - the farmhouse was roofless, open to the elements and the 'sitting room' was knee deep in nettles. The following year a British builder had started to renovate it and we bought into the project eventually acquiring the whole property in 1994. We were by this time retiring from our UK business and Merdeka became our 'job'. We spent most of our time out here refurbishing the Farmhouse and the Cottage, converting a laundry block into the Casetta, redesigning and working on the gardens and grounds. 20+ years on you can now enjoy the fruits of our labours. We still love it.
We spent wonderful holidays in your beautiful Farmhouse. The pool and the gardens are amazing. Jenny and Andrew very helpful and nice. Thank you again.

Thank you so much for a wonderful week in this beautiful Cottage. I have visited Menorca at least 25 times and this Cottage has been perfect ! Peace and gorgeous accommodation. The pool has made my sister-in -law's grand daughter's holiday perfect- easy to watch her for the house. I love the walks down to the sea - completely unspoilt. Will be back. Diane Hodgson, co Durham, June 9th 2014.
We have been visiting Es Grau on and off for many years and not found a spot as perfect as this before. Peaceful and beautiful, the air full of juniper and pine. Thank you Jenny & Andrew for the lovely welcome and especially for the bougainvillea, hibiscus, chilled wine and for great mixture of friendliness and discretion. The Hunter family, London , July 28th 2014.
We have had a fantastic holiday. The weather has been extremely kind and the peaceful atmosphere here at Merdeka has been just the ticket. There is so much beauty in nature and the sea at this time of year is wonderful. Special thanks to Jenny and Andrew for all their discrete support - it has been a great comfort to us just knowing they are there. Richard & Jan Jones, N Wales, October 10th 2014
We had a wonderful holiday in the Cottage. We have holiday'd in Menorca for 26+ years & had many wonderful times but this was special. Your brochure expressed the romance & tranquility of Casa Merdeka & we found both in abundance. It is a delightful villa with a lovely pool & atmosphere. Carmel & Bill add to the sense of peace & happiness & Pimms gave us a lovely welcome on arrival. The weather was excellent & we were able to enjoy the holiday to the full & hardly left Es Grau/Mahon area at all. We just absorbed the local atmosphere. Roger & Sue Umney June/July 2011
Beautiful location, car is however essential. Property was clean and has all the essentials required to make your stay feel like home from home. I would highly recommend this beautiful property, this was our second stay and hopefully it won't be our last!
Amazing property enabling an excellent family holiday --age span of 85 years to 3 years of age for 14 people. Enough space for everybody to enjoy doing their own thing if necessary! Ideally situated not far from the airport but in the countryside with lovely views and many things to see close by with car rental necessary.
The property is extremely well managed by a very knowledgeable concierge couple
Wonderful week away - what an escapist treat with a lovely refreshing swimming pool. Beautiful surroundings with abundant wildlife (great for birdwatchers), with many exotic birds visible from the cottage. The cottage was spacious inside, excellently presented and the caretakers Andrew and Jenny, always very friendly and approachable, were always on hand if needed and were great for ideas for things to do or places to visit. We've stayed in many self-catering cottages over the years and this was one of the best. Well worth a return visit!
We had 3 generations of our family for a 2 week vacation and Merdeka was just perfect. A beautiful farmhouse, with every amenity and lots of space for everyone, in a wonderful location. The lovely L-shaped swimming pool, with ample loungers and sun shades, kept both adults and kids amused for hours. Meals from breakfast to dinner were taken at a massive outdoor dining table, with the adjacent BBQ getting very well used.
The property is managed very efficiently by Jenny and Andrew, who were always around, without being intrusive, to help in any way.
When we did drag ourselves away Es Grau, 5 minutes in the car, had an excellent, safe beach and 2 very good restaurants.
All in all an excellent experience, which we would unreservedly recommend.
Simply a beautiful villa, has everything you will ever need to make your holiday perfect. Jenny and Andrew were on hand for anything you needed. Amazing time. You will however need a car if you want to eat out or go to a beach.
Lovely secluded villa in a rural setting but only 15 minutes from the airport and central Mahon . Plenty of space for all 14 of us being three generations from 8 months to 66 years . The caretakers of the villa Jenny and Andrew we're welcoming and unobtrusive and cooked two great meals ( Tapas and Provençal ) and baby set . A stress free holiday in magnificent surroundings with a magnificent pool and outdoor dining area and bar . One of those places you really want to return to especially with the sunny weather we enjoyed all the time !
We are 7 minutes drive to Es Grau beach or a 0.5 hour walk to the coast to join the Cami de Cavals, the long distance coastal path that circumnavigates Menorca
Mahon airport is 15 minutes.
Car hire is essential. We can help and advise with flight arrangements and car hire.
Mahon, the capital of Menorca, with its spectacular natural harbour fringed with bars and restaurants is 10 minutes drive away. There are excellent supermarkets here plus banks, shops, and all the amenities you would associate with a smart regional capital. There are many marinas along the harbour and it is possible to charter a yacht or motor cruiser for a day or longer. Tourist launches take passengers round the harbour (the 3rd largest natural harbour in the world) on informative cruises and you can finish off with a trip round the Xoriguer Gin factory and sample Menorca's distinctive tipple
Es Grau, a fishing village in a sheltered bay with a safe sandy beach and very shallow water is ideal for young children and is just a 7 minute drive away. Sailing dinghies, windsurfers and kayaks are available for hire and a small motor boat takes trips to the uninhabited Isle de Colom for a spell on 'Robinson Crusoe' beach. There are also bars, beachside restaurants and a small friendly supermarket
Jenny & Andrew are our concierge couple who look after the property and grounds on a day-to-day basis and are willing to babysit, cater and provide extra cleaning/laundry if required. They will also provide information and suzapport.
The countryside around our farmhouse is totally protected as a special ecological area and there are some lovely walks and lots of bird watching opportunities. In Spring the hedgerows (and our fields) are a mass of wild flowers. Menorca is one of Europe's last bastions of unspoilt countryside and nature and the area around our home is one of the most tranquil and beautiful parts of the island. Just a few minutes away is S'Albufera, a huge freshwater inland lake which has been designated as one of the primary bird sanctuaries for the migration of birds across Europe
