About Karl and Daphne
As a young family we had a very happy 20 years of trading in the remote Zulu Kingdom of South Africa. On being politically displaced in 1980 we retired early to the North Coast of Durban and another 15 years of “part time farming” our Beef Ranch in remote northern Natal. Having more leisure time, we toured extensively and whilst in Europe we fell in love with the Algarve and promptly acquired a holiday villa, which inevitably in 1995 became our permanent home. Having acquired more holiday villas to rent out we now enjoy meeting guests from around the world, many of whom are now our dearest friends. Annually we visit our families in the southern summers of South Africa and Australia and returning home to enjoy and love the Algarve even more
Karl and Daphne purchased this Villa in 1999
Why Karl and Daphne chose Moncarapacho
The Ria Formosa wetlands and offshore Islands being a protected world heritage, our part of the Eastern Algarve is fortunately spared from mega tourist developments and consequently remains more traditionally Portuguese; the most friendly and polite people you could ever wish to meet. An idyllic easy going lifestyle, festivals, village markets, offshore islands with endless golden beaches, crystal waters and all year sunny blue skies
What makes this Villa unique
A very secluded and peaceful country locality, set in natural shrub land all around, for unwinding and ultimate relaxation with a lovely sea view. Easy access to village shops and affordable restaurants, also several beaches, sport activities and entertainments just a short drive away.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Home from home in the sun
Villa Monte Fava was the best equipped property we have ever rented in over thirty years of renting property abroad. Everything had been thought of and Karl and Daphne were the perfect hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they were always available at the end of the villa mobile phone for help and assistance as required and suggestions for where to visit and where to eat.
The villa occupies an idyllic location with amazing views down to the Ria Formosa and the sea. Lazy days spent by the pool in the magnificent gardens that surround the property were what we both needed. Watching the swallows circling in the azure sky over a glass of chilled white wine was perfect.
Thank you Karl for your kindness. We will be recommending Monte Fava to all our family and friends.
Many thanks for your glowing 5 star review, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay
Everything you need for a family holiday
Myself, wife and seven year old had a super time. Thanks Karl
Casa Monte Fava
We totally enjoyed staying 3 weeks at the villa and exploring Portugal!
The location in the mountains provided privacy and tranquility. The kitchen being fully stocked with items to prepare meals made cooking a breeze. The welcome package was most appreciated. The information booklet was very helpful for grocery and restaurant locations.
Thanks again Karl and Daphne for allowing us to experience your property and the beauty of Portugal!
We are delighted you liked Portugal and enjoyed your stay. Thank you

Peaceful nature watchers paradise
Monte Fava is a well equipped and immaculately clean villa with stunning views and a pretty garden. It was really lovely to arrive and find fresh provisions, a cup of tea and rolls on the terrace was a great way to start our hols. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there sitting by the pool, glass of wine watching the birds flit around us. On two nights we were even visited by a long eared owl and even saw shooting stars due to very little night pollution. Although we have lots of other places to visit around the world we would love to come back to this magical place. A big thank you to the owners Karl and Daph for making our holiday so memorable.
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay, your 5 star rating is much appreciated, Thank you.
Wonderful villa in a private location
We booked Villa Monte Fave looking to get away from it all and it was idyllic!
The villa is beautifully positioned to ensure you get the most spectacular view, the pool is warm and inviting, (private and between 28-32 degrees in September - perfect), the local area is lovely with great local restaurants and markets.
Attention to detail is what made this a special and really comfortable holiday for us. Karl really has tried to think of everything. The welcome pack is brilliant, all your basics and much more, use of a mobile phone to contact him
if you need to, a good selection of wines in the honesty bar. We love to cook too and the kitchen for a holiday villa is very well-stocked. You can also forget about buying basics: washing powder, soap, tea, coffee, bin liners etc, everything was plentiful.
Thank you Karl for letting us use your lovely villa.
We are encouraged and delighted you enjoyed your stay, THANK YOU.
The Algarve is Portugal's holiday playground, blessed with all year around sunshine, unpolluted blue skies and crystal clear seas.
Summers are very hot and dry, parched meadows and endless beaches with the cool Atlantic are a refuge from the heat of the day. Evenings are refreshingly cooler, and are ideal for dining out, listening traditional "Fado", some serious clubbing or simply good eating in the regions vast choice of restaurants, famous for fresh foods.
Spring and Autumn are milder and are preferred by many, still hot and mostly all blue skies with possibly a stray shower from winter rains restoring the lush green countryside and spectacular wild flowers.
Being a winter rainfall zone, Algarve Winters are surprisingly mild, with some colder days interspersed with days of warm sunny skies, cool evenings ideal for a heart-warming log fire were central heating is merely a surplus luxury.
Unlike central to west Algarve's bustling and crowded tourist resorts, our Eastern Algarve, having protected World Heritage wetlands and offshore islands, is fortunately spared from mega tourist developments. It consequently remains more traditionally Portuguese; the most friendly and polite people you could ever wish to meet.
An idyllic easy going lifestyle, with village markets, festivals, uncrowded beaches and all year wall to wall blue skies.
The region offers a wide variety of activities and entertainments, and is well served with shopping malls, regional produce and crafts.
For a change from beach life there is dolphin-watching, scuba-diving, surfing or sailing. You can also visit famous Oceanariums and swim with dolphins, splash away at Water Worlds or enjoy a luxury boat cruise along the spectacularly beautiful coastline. There are also the options of riding a bicycle, horse riding or walking in unspoilt countryside.
With golf as choice activity there are Europe's top courses to hand, and in the Algarve nowhere is too far away to go.
