|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
17th Century farmhouse set in 25 acres of gardens, with superb views over the Douro River, reached by a lovely winding track through the grounds. The property, with its orange, lemon and olive groves, has been in our family for several generations and the many prints, sketches and photographs lining the walls tell their own history of the Port Wine region of Portugal. The property is 70km from the coast and Porto (home of the Port Wine cellars and with its town centre designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
The house has been fully modernised whilst still retaining its unique charm and atmosphere. This is the place for the ultimate relaxing escape, where you will enjoy total privacy whilst taking in the most magnificent views. There is plenty to see and do whilst exploring the area, including the delightful, historic towns of Amarante, Braga, Lamego and Regua. A car is essential to get the most from your stay in this idyllic setting, but there is a regular train service between Porto and Pocinho, stopping at Regua and Pinhao along the way, where you can alight and enjoy a river trip, or simply sit at a waterside restaurant and relax. In addition, your host will be delighted to arrange guided sightseeing or wine tasting tours throughout Douro Valley’s Port Wine producing estates and further up the river to the Foz Coa palaeolithic rock carvings, described by specialists as the biggest outdoor history museum. There is also a possibility of transfer from/to Porto airport by previous arrangement.
Retired, 70 years old, living on the farm, property owner and manager.
Welcoming guests and permanent assistance.
Check in is quite flexible.
This unique and beautiful property has been in our family for generations.
This is a spectacular location with stunning views, set in an unspoiled area with amazing food and wines. The house overlooks the River Douro with boats that you can take for a cruise along the river, which the owner can book for you. At the house there is free Wi-Fi access for the guests’ use. It is close to Port Wine country where you can visit the farms producing this famous drink and taste the Douro wines. It is within an easy drive of Porto, for the city sights and the airport. You will also find that prices generally are very reasonable, whether shopping or eating out. The local people are very friendly and are always willing to help visitors.
"What a wonderful welcome of eucalyptus fragrance in the air, breathtaking views, sunrises and sunsets to watch for" - Bruce & Anne, UK, July01
"Our week here has been restorative – we enjoy the peace, the wonderful aroma of orange blossom and the tranquil walks through the grapes, orange and lemons trees as we pick fruit for breakfast. We hope to return here for a longer visit – there is no better place we have found in our travels" - Patrick & Peggy Jenson
"What a beautiful place to stay-absolutly magical. My favourite posture has been picking the oranges and lemons and making the juice every morning.
Lamego worth a visit and also the trip up to Pinhão on the train.
Thanks Francisco for all your help.

Nous venons de passer deux semaines de vacances inoubliables dans le cadre magnifique de la vallée du Douro et dans votre ferme familiale digne d´un monument historique.
This stop was more than we hoped for . Francisco made us very welcome and was helpful with our needs. The accommodations were great and the view was amazing. Mainy sites are a very short distance away but would have been happy spending all my time at the house , very quite and private. Wish we could have stayed longer !!!
We had the most wonderful holiday here - it just could not be better! The stunning scenery, the beautiful house and Francisco's generous hospitality made our time here one we will treasure.
We enjoyed two weeks here with various friends and family joining us over this period to celebrate a 60th birthday and 32nd wedding anniversary. Most of our time was spent in and around the beautiful pool as the weather was so hot and the views are amazing! The house remained cool as we closed the shutters during the day. We ventured out on a few occasions to Amarante and Lamego, both worth a visit.
Francisco was discreet but readily available with advice regarding where to shop and places to eat and happliy made reservations for us. One of our favourite places was the Hotel Antigo down by the river. Their Sunday buffet was excellent and extremely good value.
On the occasion of my husband's 60th birthday Francisco put the pool lights on and we had a wonderful evening of entertainment under the stars; such a special time.
We enjoyed sitting in the different areas around the house gazing at the views, walking in the grounds and the 'boys' enjoyed playing table tennis.
The maids cleaned efficiently during our stay and the house was very clean. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathrooms were good with efficient showers.
This is the ideal place to relax and unwind whilst soaking up the sun and the amazing views. Francisco is charming and friendly and ensured that our holiday was the best it could be.
We thoroughly recommend this delightful home and its owner and hope to return again!
This is a fabulous location, set high up in the hills. From different viewpoints around the property, and at different times of day and night the view changes. We loved lounging by the pool, listening to the bird song and also watching the sun go down, with all the lights twinkling along the valley.
As others have said, the owner's perfect hospitality made us feel so much at home in his home. The farmhouse is full of character, and also so well equipped with all mod-cons, how lovely to go home with clean laundry for a change! We loved the fresh oranges and figs, breakfast will not be the same again.
We visited some beautiful local towns, Amarante and Regua by car, taking a boat trip on the Douro at the latter, and then the train down to Pinhao, where the railway station has the most wonderful tiles. There we enjoyed a leisurely lunch at the waterside.
Our favourite place to eat was in the small town of Baioa, where we were shown the steak before it was cooked to perfection, served with salad and washed down with some amazing local vino tinto. We have also got used to a small white port with tonic as an aperitif before dinner. We could certainly get used to this life!
So, we would recommend this property wholeheartedly for complete relaxation, amazing views and hospitality. We sincerely hope that we can return again soon.

A delightful property, very well equipped, clean and comfortable. Fantastic views over the beautiful river Douro. Wonderful pool! A good location for visiting the surrounding area by train or car. Scenic boat trips on the river also a must. Lunch at the nearby Hotel Porto Antigo recommended. Charming host - generous and helpful. Thank you Francisco for a truly memorable holiday! We hope to return.
Quinta Do Loureiro is situated above the Douro Valley providing breathtaking views over the river. It is approached through a wooded area of eucalyptus and cork oak trees with terraces of orange and lemon trees to the front, this all gives the villa a high degree of privacy and adds to the overall atmosphere of tranquility.
The house itself is very welcoming and full of character, spotlessly clean with comfortable beds, there is a very well appointed kitchen, a full bathroom and seperate shower room. Outside there is a large swimming pool and patio area with loungers, there are tables and chairs on the terrace to the front of the villa where you can enjoy meals taking in the superb views.
During our stay we had temperatures in the high 30'sC, however inside the villa the temperature was always pleasantly cool. The lack of air-conditioning was not a drawback.
We found this a great centre to visit the local towns and vineyards and explore further up the valley, the roads are in very good condition but do wind and twist a lot so leave plenty of time to travel!
Finally Francisco is a marvellous host, very welcomming, with a wealth of local knowledge and always willing to assist making your holiday memorable.
