Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3)

Cheryl's House was designed as a romantic oceanview retreat.

This cottage has one bedroom (queen-size Tempirpedic bed with a featherbed topper) with French doors opening out onto the deck. There’s a double-headed shower for two with stone tiles in the bathroom. The living room has two sets of French doors which open out onto the deck with expansive views overlooking the Pacific Ocean and up the Navarro River valley. There’s a very comfortable futon couch (where a child or one additional adult can sleep), a glass-front Lopi gas-burning 'woodstove,' an antique pine dining table and chairs and a Scandinavian armoire. The floors are newly refinished redwood and Mexican paver tiles, with luxurious oriental carpets.

About The Owner

Cheryl moved to California to follow her passion in the food and wine industry.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1994

Why The Owner chose Albion

The Mendocino coast is wild and rugged -- and the view from our deck overlooks the ocean and the river valley. We are just 7 miles from the historic village of Mendocino, 2 miles from the best restaurant on the coast (Ledford House) and 15 miles from Anderson Valley wineries.

What makes this cottage unique

Our guest cottage is quiet & private, you can hear the waves, smell the salt air, and see millions of stars at night.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Noah & I cooked, painted, read, watched birds out the windows, saw hawks & ravens, searched for whales, went kayaking on the river. We remembered why leaving the city pace is such a good idea!

Romantic Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent a much needed getaway weekend at Cheryl's House and experienced a wonderful, relaxing time. We appreciated all her thoughtful touches, like the welcoming light in the window, and the waiting bottle of red wine, as we first entered the house! After getting settled in, we enjoyed some cheese, crackers and the bottle ofwine on the deck overlooking the spectacular view. The house itself is built with quality, and the furnishings make the place cozy and comfortable. . We like to cook our own meals, and the kitchen was nicely stocked with dishes, pans, utensils, etc. The bed was heavenly and the shower was the best ever. Made up for the toilet being somewhat close to the wall. Although we did not use the hot tub, it would have been nice to use had we stayed longer. The location is perfect. We felt far away from it all, but in reality, were just a short drive to hiking and wondering the streets of Mendocino. Definitely, give Cheryl's House a try.

Beautiful, Peaceful Home with Gorgeous Views

  • 5 of 5

This property really allows you to feel like you are "getting away from it all." The views are jaw-dropping. The decks are very private. You won't see any neighbors and you will feel like you have the entire ridge to yourself. The cathedral ceilings and the exceptionally large picture windows give the home a very spacious feel. We cooked most of our meals at home in the well-appointed kitchen, and we didn't find it lacking for anything. Based on a previous review, we brought our own spatula but it wasn't necessary. If you don't want to cook, it's a very quick drive to the Ledford House or the Albion River Inn. We tried both and we loved the Ledford House, although the wine list at the Albion River Inn is pretty grand!

Speaking of wine, Cheryl's House has proper stemware including champagne flutes as well as stemless ware as well as plasticware for the hot tub area. The hot tub was very clean and the water was crystal clear. We loved our daily soak and listening to the distant ocean waves crashing on the beach. We loved everything about Cheryl's House, and we are looking forward to a return trip.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for sharing your experience at my home. With the demands of work and other commitments, we all get so little time to truly get away--it was an honor to be able to host you for some special moments with someone you love.

Beautiful quiet cottage with excellent views!

  • 5 of 5

A perfect getaway for our anniversary! Enjoyed the large deck and hot tub under the brilliant sky full of stars...we were lucky to have a clear night. The daytime views after the fog burns off are captivating, which made relaxing here so easy. The cottage is well supplied and very comfortable, especially the Tempurpedic bed. Cheryl's house is a gem...thanks Cheryl!

Beautiful Ridgetop Romantic Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Cheryl's Cottage is everything you could ask for...I was looking for something with a water view that was nice and quiet....I got it..Sitting up on top of the ridge makes for the most spectacular views as you watch the Navarro River meet up with the ocean. We had a little fog in the morning but cleared up by noon. We loved sitting in the hot tub and just taking in the views. The cottage has everything you need. The kitchen has all the basics so you can cook a nice meal and the double shower head was so nice. A nice comfy bed was a added bonus. We got a call from Cheryl after our arrival to make sure everything was ok...and it was...I can highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a nice romantic getaway.

Beautiful house with incredible view.

  • 4 of 5

The house is gorgeous and well maintained. It has most of the modern conveniences one would expect, and it's pretty convenient to your traditional list of Mendocino tourist destinations (beaches, lighthouses, Mendocino village, Fort Bragg, etc.).

Definite perks: the view (when it's not foggy... and even when it is foggy) is gorgeous; the bed is comfy; the shower is super high pressure and very hot and has two shower heads; the deck is spacious; the hot tub is relaxing; the kitchen is mostly well-stocked with what you need to cook.

Some items to note... personally, I wouldn't hold any of this against the property, but probably worth being aware in case you find them important: the TV is small; the futon is also small (you can really only seat two on it); I couldn't imagine having more than a couple people here for any length of time; the storm shudders are really cool, but it takes some time to get in and out of the deck when they're closed; there are some oddball things missing from the kitchen (wooden spoon, flipper) and some oddball things that are included (ice cream maker!); the toilet is very close to the wall, so might be tough for tall folks to sit; there is no way to walk to any shops or anything. Basically, all of these things simply add to the charm in my book.

Thanks Cheryl for the hospitality and the great house!
