About KIM MCNERNEY
As the owner's rep, I have been taking care of this property since 2006 (as well as having taken care of it during the '80s). I'm one of those "locals" who came to Aspen and returned to live here as a result of a strong attraction and affinity. Returning in 2006 was my 4th bounce back. I met the owner in Aspen during the 1969 - 70 ski season. My first time on skis was on Aspen Mt. I grew up in San Diego surfing and sailing. I seem to return, too, to school every decade. I have attended UCSD, Colorado Institute of Art and EWU. I have obtained a BFA, MA and MFA. Most recently, I took classes in QuickBooks and Excel at CMC. In my free time I'm most likely working on my writing or art. I have 30 years working in property management including 10 years in vacation rentals, 10 years in renovation & conversion construction, 8.5 years as Dir. of Housekeeping and 5 years in Reception and Reservations. I will be your hostess and attend to your guest needs and emergencies. I live in Basalt, about 4 miles from the home. CONTACT: 970-618-1610
KIM MCNERNEY purchased this Cabin in 1965
Why KIM MCNERNEY chose Snowmass
This home was renovated and refurbished to suit the owner's taste and sense of aesthetics. It is a small, charming home. Of the various properties he owned, at one time in this area, the owner chose to keep this property because of its location on the river. The location is fabulous and provides a great get-away from the fast paced activities that are often part of an adventure in this area or from one's usual routine. Returning to the home after a day and evening out is coming home to peace and serenity.
What makes this Cabin unique
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: This home is not far from HWY 82. Going either direction on HWY 82 will take you to adventures, activities and shopping in the valley from ASPEN and SNOWMASS at the east end/upper valley, to BASALT, WILLITS & CARBONDALE mid-valley and GLENWOOD SPRINGS at the west end/lower valley - - all within a drive (or bus ride) of 20 - 40 minutes. This vacation rental is competitively priced, reflecting mid-valley rates as opposed to upper valley rates; yet, offers accessibility to ALL the Roaring Fork Valley has to offer from one end to the other. The east bound RFTA buses travel from the near-by bus stop to the Intercept Lot at the intersection of HWY 82 & Brush Creek. From the Intercept Lot one can catch a bus to Snowmass Village & Ski area, the Airport, the Buttermilk Ski area, the Highlands Ski area (and shuttles to the Maroon Bells), Aspen Ski Mt. and City of Aspen. The west bound RFTA buses travel to Basalt, Willits, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs.

Had a wonderful time by the river each day. Was also a good location to be able to visit with nearby family members.
Great location and flexible owner
The location was great - it was easy for us to get into and out of Aspen and to the ski areas and we didn't have to pay the rates we would have there. Our dates changed by a day or so and Kim was very flexible.
Riverside retreat was a great location for our trip just a short drive to all ski areas.
Riverside Retreat is a great location. The house was very neat and clean with lots of amenities to make it easy to prepare meals. Love having a grill outside and listening to the water rushing by. Very eclectic with furnishing making it comfortable and homey. Amazing library!! Kim was very welcoming to us. The fireplace is gorgeous and we enjoyed many fires during our stay. We would definitely return.
Great location on the river
We loved staying here. Clean and well thought out. Kim had arranged for plenty of firewood and snacks. She even left wine for us. The book detailing use of the property was the best we have ever seen. Would love to come back in the summer.
Well worth the price!
Good location. only 10-12 minutes from Snowmass. Warm, cozy house generoudly stocked w/everything you’d need, even beer, wine, food. Kitchen desperately needs a new dishwasher and kitchen cupboards. The cupboards don’t always close unless pushed firmly....many decades old. There was a film on plates and glasses. A de- lime solution would fix this. River side retreat was a great place to stay and we will rent again!
Very good and a great place
Great place. Very clean and the kitchen had everything you need to prepare meals. Kim was very helpful.
COLORADO ROAD CONDITIONS:
In Colorado: 511
Driving Directions to 38 LOWER RIVER ROAD, SNOWMASS 81654:
DENVER TO ASPEN & THE ROARING FORK VALLEY:
The distance between Aspen and Denver is 198 miles. The estimated drive time is 3.5 hours (of course it will take longer if this area is getting snow). Out of Denver, take I-70 into the mountains, through Eisenhower Tunnel, over Vail Pass and through Glenwood Canyon - - all Interstate Highway. At Glenwood Springs, go EAST on HWY 82. Please note: Independence Pass is CLOSED during the winter months, approximately November through April.
PASSES CLOSED DURING WINTER: Independence, Hagerman, Cottonwood Passes and Eagle-Thomasville Road.
IF GLENWOOD CANYON IS CLOSED:
Take I-70 West out of Denver and into the mountains. The detour around Glenwood Canyon is 203 miles, take approximately 3 hours, 50 minutes: Westbound drivers are to go north on state road 131 at Wolcott to Steamboat Springs, then head west on U.S. 40 to Craig, then south on CO 13 to Rifle and back to I-70. Take I-70 East to go to Glenwood, Carbondale, Basalt, Snowmass, Snowmass Village, Aspen.
From GLENWOOD SPRINGS, take HWY 82 EAST to the Roaring Fork Valley. The towns after Glenwood Springs are Carbondale, El Jebel/Willits and Basalt. There are 3 signal intersections for Basalt: Two Rivers (a four way intersection), Midland/Basalt Ave (a four way intersection) and Two Rivers (again, the second time a T-intersection). Continue pass ALL Basalt exits. The next signal will be about 4 miles East at LOWER RIVER ROAD. Before the signal, there is a yellow light on the right side of the road that will alert vehicles that the light at the intersection will be turning red. Just before the signal, get into the LEFT turn lane. Be careful turning left as down valley traffic can be quite thick and go quite fast. At the signal & intersection of HWY 82 & LOWER RIVER ROAD take a turn LEFT, away from the OLD SNOWMASS CONOCO, continue over bridge, go left at the fork then immediately left into driveway. Park beneath the windows to the left of the front door.
From the PITKIN COUNTY AIRPORT: Take HWY 82 WEST (in the direction of Glenwood Springs). The home is approximately 14 miles from the Airport. You will pass the signal intersection for Brush Creek that is the turn for Snowmass Village, continue on HWY 82. The next signal intersection is at Aspen Village, continue on HWY 82. Stay on HWY 82 (through winding Snowmass Canyon - - be careful if there is new snow or ice). The next signal, just after coming out of the Canyon, is the Old Snowmass turn, LOWER RIVER ROAD. Before the signal, there is a yellow light on the right side of the road that will alert vehicles that the light at the intersection will be turning red. On the left is the OLD SNOWMASS CONOCCO. Just before the signal, get into the RIGHT turn lane (it is also a bus stop lane - - better to wait behind the bus if a bus is stopped there instead of trying to get in front of it as buses take off quickly), take a RIGHT, and go over the bridge. Go left and then left again, immediately into the driveway. Park beneath the windows to the left of the front door.
RFTA BUSES: At the signal & intersection of HWY 82 & Lower River Road are RFTA bus stops for buses going east and west. The buses make regular and frequent stops.
LOCK BOX: To the right of the front door is a lock box: you will be provided your own code.
ASSISTANCE: If you have any trouble en route, please call me: Kim at 970-618-1610.
