Captain Ken Wolfel
About Captain Ken Wolfel
Captain Ken Ken has been sailing for over 35 years since his first sail on a 16 foot Hobie Cat and has been sailing, racing and delivering sailboats ever since. He holds a 100 ton masters license with the U.S. Coast Guard and is a certified scuba diver. In his previous life he enjoyed a career as a Project Manager on major commercial construction projects across the United States. He chartered his first bareboat in 1992 and has been in love with the warm waters and beautiful beaches in the islands of the Caribbean ever since. He has now realized his long time dream to retire on a sailboat and share his love of sailing and exploring the pristine islands of the Caribbean with others. In 2004, Ken bought his first charter cat, a 42 foot Lagoon Catamaran named Minx, which he sailed from Georgia up the East coast to Newport RI, over to Bermuda and down to the British Virgin Islands where he began his career doing Captain only Charters. In the past three years he has sailed his current catamaran, Sunshine, from St Simons Island Georgia through the Bahamas and Windward Islands down to Grenada and Trinidad, stopping at all the islands and major sailing regattas along the way. This past Hurricane season was spent chartering between the resort Islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard in New England. Sunshine is now returning to the crystal clear waters of the British Virgin Islands where he waits to share his passion for sailing, exploring pristine beaches and snorkeling underwater paradises with you.
Why Captain Ken Wolfel chose Wickhams Cay 1
A captain only charter on Sunshine typically costs thousands of dollars less than the cost of chartering a similar sized catamaran from one of the many bareboat charter companies and includes all of the associated costs of operation. many of the charter companies add on for taxes, fuel, insurance, park and mooring fees as well as cleaning. In exchange all you have to do is manage a few breakfast and lunches aboard and sample the local cuisine at a different island each night.
What makes this Yacht unique
THE TRIP Imagine a vacation that revolves around you. Picture having your own personal floating hotel room that moves from island to island, waking to breathtaking views that change every day. A captain only charter is the perfect blend of a bareboat charter where you would be responsible for the boat and the more expensive all inclusive fully crewed charters. It is the ultimate in relaxation. flexibility and fun while the captain takes care of all of your needs You wake up and while sipping on your cup of fresh ground coffee you decide what you would like to do that day on your perfect vacation. You set the pace and the itinerary, sailing, swimming, snorkeling, beachcombing or hiking, it is all up to you. You also choose whether to prepare your meals on the boat or perhaps to enjoy some local cuisine and specialty drinks on shore as the spirit moves you, Go ashore at every possible chance, or not at all. Why Captain Only? Peace of mind - I offer a no stress solution for groups that would like to charter their own bareboat but are apprehensive about sailing a catamaran for the first time or sailing in unfamiliar waters. I am responsible for the boat and you get to decide each day whether you would like to lend a hand with the sailing or not. Cost - Rates are low, often less than an equivalent bareboat. Your charter includes full use of the yacht and all of the amenities and the services of a full time captain and tour guide with none of the stress.

Holliday in Heaven
As captain Ken “sunshine” will tell you himself, being on a catamaran sailing the British Virgin Islands is not perfect for everyone but it is absolute heaven for most. Ken’s boat has been lovingly maintained and upgraded by Ken himself to make it convenient, comfortable and fun. I must admit that we worried about feeling like a guest in someone’s small home but Ken never made us feel that way. We had the run of the boat and with the exception of a few guidelines, Ken made us feel like it was our boat for the week.
We went through a broker last year to rent a boat and was assigned a captain. While it was a great experience, this was much more personal and Ken was absolutely wonderful! His laugh is contagious and he has a very gentle personality. Everyone seems to know him wherever he goes and is happy to see him, greeting him with hugs and shouts of “Sunshine!”.
One of the best things about Ken is that he will take you to places others won’t. He knows these islands very well and is an amazing tour guide. You will see places that many of the other captains and boat companies won’t allow you to go or don’t even know about.
Don’t hesitate. Just book it and enjoy!
Could not have been better!
This is our 4th time chartering with Capt Ken. We go just about every year now. It’s a fabulous adventure! We just returned from our vacation and are already planning our next one!
If you haven’t booked yet with Sunshine, do yourself a favor and just go. You’ll be glad you did.
Thanks Capt Ken.

Best trip ever!!
This was our second year chartering with Ken on Sunshine. It was absolutely fabulous in every way. We lacked for nothing, Ken was an amazing host and guide, and it was just a fantastic week. Highly recommended.
Ken is one of the world's good guys. He did everything possible to make sure our time aboard was the best it could be. Always a smiling and totally capable captain, we felt secure knowing that whatever the weather -( at times 30 gusting 33 knots) he knew the boat well and would dress it appropriately for the waves and wind. Somehow, he managed to find shelter in the evenings and understanding that we love swimming and snorkelling moored us in the best places. As an experienced sailor, I specially appreciated the chance to helm the Catamarin.
Sunshine is spacious and well equipped and we can recommend the package. Thank you Ken.
Sail Sunshine Offers an absolutely amazing way to visit the many islands of the BVI’s
On the first day Captain Ken promised us it would be the best vacation of our entire lifetime and went on to assure us that every day got better. I need to say that the six of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and that he completely lived up to his promise. Captain Ken brought us to many places that are off the beaten path and where we could have the entire anchorage or beach to ourselves. The snorkeling was fantastic and he knew all of the best tiki bar’s for happy hour.

Sailing on Sunshine with Ken Wolfel is the only way to do the Caribbean!!! What a fabulous week
we had. Whatever we wanted to do, Ken made it happen. He took us to beautiful remote snorkeling
spots that are only accessible by boat. We were on no schedule but our own. Some days we went
to several different destinations and some places we spent two days. Whatever we wanted, that's what
happened. Sunshine was so much fun to sail on. We loved the hammock and trampoline in the front
and the covered seating area in the back. Having our own bedroom and bathroom was also a big plus.
There is a hatch above each bed and we were able to look at the stars while we were in bed. I was
really amazed at how big the salon/kitchen area was. We never felt too crowded. I also want to say that
we always felt safe in the hands of Captain Ken. He is an experienced seasoned sailor and really knew what he was doing. It was a week I'll always cherish. The blue waters and sky and the stars at night were
breathtaking. Thanks Ken again! We love you!
